Vanguard has had several opportunities. When ZEXAL was a thing it had no threads here and pretty much no one was talking about any card game anime at all. Vanguard had just come out and some people tried to make threads but they always died quickly and people dismissed the series as a YGO ripoff. Even when ARC-V started going downhill and became so unbelievably bad every thread was shitposting no one cared about the current Vanguard series at that point. There was one guy making threads and they always died in a couple posts. And even now when VRAINS can't even match the hype and praise of early ARC-V and there's a reboot to get new people the threads die a couple hundred posts in. It will literally never ever take off unless YGO anime completely dies which won't happen anytime soon. It's forever a niche franchise that will live in YGO's shadow.

-/vg/ has a general for the regular card game called /dng/, but they are extreme virgin autists who were created out of the "Dueling Network" era -Hence the name, /dng/, and they despise the Yea Forums community, the anime, and are honestly insufferable unwelcoming douchebag neckbeards that only care about how financially invested they are in yugioh at this point, and are quite jaded.
-There's also a Duel Links general on /vg/, I find that they are people who loved the anime and got back into Yugioh but didn't like what the regular card game has become, so they found a nice compromise in duel links. Duel Links is a good share of both the anime and the game and I recommend it for anyone who wants to play casually. BUT, the game is technically a gacha, though a lite gacha, and you will probably put money into it eventually once it gets you hooked. You can absolutely get away without paying for it but you inevitably will either pay in time or money.

Best places to discuss Yugioh are the Yea Forums generals and the Duel Links generals on /vg/. Best places to discuss the actual physical card game along with meta would be locals, Pojo forums, the yugioh subreddit, and Youtube (Yugitubers).

I don't recommend the actual card game though, just play Duel Links. Regular game is beyond saving and you'd better have money to drop every meta.

Duel links right now is worse than the tcg even so the game is restrictive and forces you to buy packs unlike in the actual game where you can play online for free or buy singles irl to build decks recommending duel links to beginners and people who want to comeback to the game is fine but saying that's its better than the tcg or you can play more casually in it than the tcg is retarded and just not true and in terms of money you will drop more on duel links than the tcg because the meta changes every month in the game unlike the tcg where the format lasts for 3 to 5 months and you can just invest whenever you want

I think it depends. Duel Links has a pretty restrictive meta due to the format and gacha hierarchy, but the tcg has an extremely cruel meta due to the powercreep. You will not win in Duel Links with casual decks but you will be given the illusion that you can. You will not win in the tcg either but you won't even be given a second turn and you'll be mocked while doing it.

Most people who play the tcg play seriously and with meta decks, and I don't think you'll have much room to play casually for fun unless you have some friends you can make some ground rules with. In Duel links you can at least fuck around with the computers and maybe play in the casual matchmaking where you should stand some sort of chance.

So I would say if you have friends, tcg, if not, Duel Links.

Duel Links is better than TCG just because everything is automatical. Imagine actually using calculators during a Yu-Gi-Oh duel and having to explain 321 effects to your opponent while he makes misplays anyway.

let's be honest, in both Duel Links and tcg, games won't last more than 2-3 turns unless you're playing with weaker and balanced casual decks. But I do agree, nothing beats playing with the actual cards in person. Duel Links can just never replicate that feeling, it's just so unique and fun. Locals aren't good for that feel either, it's just full of sweaty loud passive aggressive neckbeards and teens.

Best fun I've had with the game is having a friend come over and we play on my carpet or coffee table with agreed upon decks. Then again, I love shitstomping some meta/netdecking neckbeard in person and watching him sperg out.

I tried Duel Links the other day. While it's sort of fun to pick up and play, it simultaneously just feels so hollow and constricting, especially with the speed duel format.

Also there's nothing quite like putting together a deck out of singles and waiting excitedly like a kid for them to come in the mail and watch the deck slowly come together.

I own the complete set and it was relatively unchanged, there are a few things very slightly altered during Duelist. Very minor art changes to Magician girl iirc just to have the pentagram removed. They keep all the Japanese names except for Pegasus(Why?) and Isis Ishtar, who have their 4kids names. All card data is in, although it may be inaccurate as some cards they list as not existing may exist now. Overall a nice release and set.

And because I forgot, most cards have their english names, except for obvious ones like Revolver Dragon.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I have a lot of volumes in dutch, but they never finished translating it so I'm looking into buying the english volumes.

I don't see this as a bad thing. If anything I wish they showed more, especially set S/T cards. So many duels stretch out over two weeks and sometimes it feels like characters spring a trap card out of nowhere and I have to think back to figure out when they set it.

There may be times when they focus on teaching the game more often now. But they had focus on game mechanics in other ways in the earlier series. Power bond was obnoxious. Judai not understanding certain aspects of his fusions. And gimmicky techs were always a thing.

Comparing the Lightning situation to Jonouchi vs Marik is retarded.

Lightning had to use a mechanism outside of Duel Monsters to survive that duel. He was also going to lose prior to that but managed to get out of that by exploiting a hostage.

Meanwhile, Marik very clearly set the terms at the beginning of the game. He didn't do anything he didn't say he was going to do. The reason the characters never say Jonouchi defeated Marik is because he didn't. They say he defeated Ra, because that's what happened.

If Jonouchi hadn't passed out, he could have kept playing. He could have beaten Marik within the confines of Duel Monsters, and, moreover, the rules of the Shadow Game.

The two scenario are completely different. The only way they'd be even remotely similar would be if Marik had been attacked by Gearfried, had his life reduced to zero, but then bit into Serenity and started to drink her blood, then came up with some stupid clause about how he can convert her blood into life points or some shit.

Kaito didn't hold someone hostage and then convert their soul into Life Points though, he depleted Mizar's LP to 0 and then died.

It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive, there are some duels like Akira vs Yusaku where the clashing of character motivations/perspectives was an integral part. Vrains just doesn't care much about character relationships or dynamics as a whole outside of Yusaku and Ai.
