Mods are probably going to ban this thread saying to take it to /r/... but just rewatched princess tutu

Watching the first Precure series. Apparently people don't like it for some reason or at least say not to start with it but I'm enjoying it a lot. I like the artstyle more than some of the images from the later series I've seen and I love Honoka.

It's about a gym teacher crossdressing to teach at some feminist shithole school. He accidentally winds up seducing an autistic girl who has an autistic chad in love with her.
Boredom

Watching FMP Fumoffu, it's pretty solid so far.

Last exile. It's really good, if a little tiring at times. And Lavie is cute.

I just watched this, I fucking loved it.

Over the last two months, 5 of the anime I've watched have been from this era: Mai-Hime, Mai-Otome, Giniro no Olynsis, Dragon Half, and First Squad: The Moment of Truth.
Mai-Hime was really good with great characters, action, and drama until it shit itself at the end. Mai-Otome didn't turn fuck up its ending, but it never reached the same heights as Hime. Giniro no Olynsis was rushed as hell with a good helping of QUALITY, but it was a surprisingly solid show with likeable characters and decent action, worldbuilding, romance, and drama. Dragon Half was a simple, hilarious comedy, and First Squad was a shitshow.

Attached: Nice13.png (452x596, 279K)

Wait, I'm retarded. Dragon Half was early nineties, so make that 4.

Is Rizelmine worth it? This always pops up whenever I search some anime to watch but everytime I read more details, the only interesting thing to note is Rie which I'm not really a fan of.

I lived through one time of awful hardsubbed avis I've got no desire to return to that time.

Comfy otaku club in the first half and then dread and suffering in the second one.

This show owns

She doesn't use her Tsunderie voice. I've only watched three episodes but it seems like just an early moeshit

Read Or Die, Onegai Teacher and Happy Lesson.

Does anyone else feel like early to mid 2000s wish fulfillment shows were more innocent in the way that people who made them made them because that's what they wanted for themselves, and not because they were specifically made to get otaku to obsess over the 'waifus' and buy as much merch as possible?

True comfy early otaku stuff.

I watched Kamichu recently, it was pretty good. Bonkers level animation in the first episode and towards the end. Couple episodes made me cry.

Don't go looking at post-2000 Go elo rankings. You will be severely disappointed.

is that the reason why no one has been making pre-2000 threads anymore?
dayum, now i have no place to talk about old stuff

Attached: 1357597291161.png (380x464, 353K)

Genshiken is like twenty years after "early otaku stuff"

Just know ahead of time Max Heart the sequel is pretty meh, it just a rehash of Futari Wa with some worse aspect added.

I've been thinking of rewatching Haibane Renmei, I first saw it in 2014 but I remember almost nothing from it. I think now I'd appreciate more.

I'd question how much of that is clouded by nostalgia, but I get what you mean. The turn of the millenium was a more optimistic time.

I don't think that was the zeitgeist in Japan though

i think that's because there wasn't any strong market back then, outside of kiddie stuff like toy anime and dbz style shows

today you have idolshit and isekai

Shogi is the new hotness, apparently. HnG was great though. Time for a reread.

I just watched Haibane for the first time like a month ago, it was fucking great.

Why was this garbage so bad and why did I rewatch it like 3 times?

Attached: 268x0w.jpg (268x268, 40K)

Yeah, I heard that. Still kind of want to keep watching in order though. But I might watch Heartcatch next since it's apparently one of the better Precure series.

Uchuu no Stellvia. Wish I had watched it a decade ago when my friend brought up how good it was.

I need to rewatch that one of these days. It was the first siscon thing I've seen, but back then I wasn't really able to tell why I liked it so much.

Is paniponi dash good? The premise seems interesting.

then i watched kanon.
then i watched air.

air was shit cause it didn't have a happy ending, but i guess that's canon to the vn.
kanon was nice but kyoani's ending wasn't as happy as canon vn or toei's.

just started to try watching the new FLCL animes but i couldn't make it through episode 1 of progressive. doesn't seem to really be relevant to the old FLCL.

>Read Or Die
Make sure you watch R.O.D. the TV as well.

You posted it. The bluray for Onegai Twins was on sale recently so I bought it, and man the nostolgia came on strong as soon as I started rewatching the first episode.

How does this make you feel?

youtube.com/watch?v=JPfK8R8zLKQ

One of my favorite OPs, the music and the art just go so well together

Truly hits you with nostalgia, I prefer it the the OP of Onegai Sensei.
>tfw the ED has a cover by Kotoko
Nice.

Attached: cover.jpg (500x500, 66K)

It makes me feel like I'm gonna have it stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

I realised I had been watching nothing but the most recent adaptations of manga I'd already read, and isekai LNs. I'm completely floored by how... artistic? this show feels -- the way that it uses music all over the place, the weridly sensible pacing, the feeling of work having been put into the visuals, the odd scenes here and there showing bits and pieces of The World -- all combine to make it feel like the people writing the story finished it first, and then went back to add detail. And on top of all that, the characters have real character right off the bat. It's somehow managed to feel fresh despite its age.

I recall not "getting" the show at all when I was younger. I'm enjoying it immensely now. Also fondly recalling then-teenage girls squeeing over how cute this girl is on TV station websites.

>BPS
>Angelic Layer
Good shit right there.

We need a new .hack series so bad. SAO ruined the MMORPG anime in general.

First KOTOKO song I ever heard, so that naturally introduced me to all her hentai stuff as well. Gotta thank Onegai Twins for that.

I'm kinda having to slog through Tokyo Mew Mew. Been told it gets better, but when really?

If you like FW you're probably the type to appreciate older artstyles and less hectic or silly episodes, at least that's what I'd imagine. I bet you'll hate Smile.

Watching in broadcast order means you get a double/triple dose of the FW formula. I don't think anyone can recommend that; even if you do like FW you'll get tired of it.

Are you watching the currently airing season? There's a cute cat in it.

shit taste

Watching Nouein right now, this show has some nice fights

So I think the wish fulfillment stuff feels less commercialized because the trope was 'loser guy gets (1) perfect waifu' and not loser guy chooses from a catalog of fetishes and tropes masquerading as characters. So yeah, maybe it feels a bit more earnest in that we were being fed exactly one dream insteading of trying to play the odds for cash.

Dumbass

.hack was the first real anime I got into. I was enchanted by the visuals and music blending together to make the setting seem more like another world than simply a game. It floors me how people can compare this to fucking Sao when it is nothing at all like it in terms of presentation. Sure the broad strokes are similar, but that is literally it

You're not as intelligent as you think you are.

Started Mahoutsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto last night, watched up to episode four. It's pretty good, and has that warm and fuzzy feeling you don't really get with modern anime anymore. I started it mostly because I heard the 2008 sequel/spinoff is very good, but I'm enjoying it a lot on its own.

I tried Uta Kata but it hasn't grabbed me and the phone charm silliness was too shoujo for me, doubt I'll keep watching. Then I downloaded pick related which I like much better.

Does anyone know where to get the Doukyousei series in good quality?
All thr torrents/ links I found seems to be dead.

Attached: image.jpg (1280x1694, 418K)

It doesn't have a BD, and it's pretty damn obscure so I'd give up on looking for a high quality release.

Your best bet is one of those hentai streaming sites. I watched it here:

hentaimama.com/episodes/end-of-summer-episode-1/

Yeah it seems to have only DVD release which I really don't know if it was ever uploaded.
Thanks user.

Not that we will get the rips that fast or they will actually remaster the first season though

Attached: EAYLHgiVAAA5V6J.jpg (289x360, 40K)

The Star Trek aesthetic just doesn't transition well into anime.

This. I'm not going to waste my time watching it.

I liked it and would watch more of it if the novel wasn't Hiatus in the Stars.
It's too good for you anyway.

>KgNE VN translation never
I sleep.

>or they will actually remaster the first season though
Does anyone know if these will be proper remasters or just shitty upscales?

Only the first season was traditionally animated so that's your best bet I think.

Currently watching Zettai Shounen.

On a related note, I wish the anime industry had decided to continue the tradition of cell-shading, and generally retained hand-drawing onto physical media. I'm not really a fan of the all-digital stuff, even though I still watch it. Personally I think it lacks that rough-around-the-edges charm.

>Only the first season
That's a pity. It was the later seasons that had all the autistic Abh conversations. Those were great.

>why is my boyfriend such an otaku his friends are annoying he should pay attention to me
>realizes how happy his hobby makes him and becomes happy knowing that he is happy
Repeat for a dozen episodes

Then you come to the realization that Sadamoto was the lead art director and just recycled his character models from Evangelion to .hack.

Attached: maxresdefault322.jpg (1280x720, 96K)

I've been watching Kino's Journey
Just realized there was a recent Kino anime but it looks like shit, is it though?
Also how are the Kino films?

But all of the .hack anime after sign was bad. Even Sign wasn't that good.

The .hack games were the real story. Sign pretty much just followed a bunch of randoms that are trailing after leads that the cast in the games are already well aware of. So it's pretty much a big side story of people who are always 2 steps behind on the uptake.

Figure 17
Mokke
Mujin Wakusei Survive

>I'm a cripple and am going to spend all my time in the virtual world sitting on a boat or sleeping under a tree
>whole squad of knights who just follow her around guarding her
I don't even think that the most autistic RP servers would be this bad. They pay fucking for a fucking subscription to sit around and take naps. Japans view of MMORPG VR always bothered me in that way.

>Forgetting the pinnacle of comedy in 2000s

It's not forgotten by any means. Season 3 is the best.

I've mostly been focusing on post-2010 anime lately, so haven't seen much from this era in a while.

I guess I'm still slowly working my way through Mujin Wakusei Survive, and for a while I've been intending to see Angelic Layer.
Will be without internet for a long time in near future, which should give me more time to watch plenty of early 2000s anime, if I can only remember to download it in time.

Recently finished pic related. Was quite disappointing, to be honest. Had much more potential than the execution showed.

Attached: h.png (440x270, 192K)

Good times.

Attached: dontcare.jpg (640x480, 55K)

I picked up the R1 DVDs of this a while back. It's on the long list of early 2000's shows I knew about but never watched. It's weird seeing something for the first time while being nostalgic for the era.

Yeah, 00's nostalgia is going to blow up soon.

It'll pop up, but 90s nostalgia was probably the last boom of it's kind for nostalgia. Now anyone can just pop up a video to relive their nostalgia. I remember in the early 00s finding an obscure or even popular old show you watched in the 80s or 90s online was a big deal. Now the hardest thing to find is people actually willing to talk with you about an old show you're watching rather than actually finding the show itself.

I just finished this. Was way better than it had any right to be.

It's no masterpiece in writing, but it's really well directed and the use of classical music set the tone better than you could've possibly imagined in a porn anime. Some of the characters are genuinely well written too; even without extensive backstory, subtle actions and characteristics give those characters a layer of depth most non-porn harems would envy.

While the first season, End of Summer, is fun, I think it really peaks in Doukyuusei Climax. I'm glad the MC's best friend won the class president bowl in the end, because their relationship felt real and tastefully developed. In any other shitty porn anime, she'd just fall for the MC's cock, and we'd all be laughing at his friend for being NTR'd again.

All in all, one hell of a pleasant surprise.

I'd agree with you if Ai Yori Aoshi didn't exist. this right here is peak wish fulfillment "muh glorious Nippon!" kind of shit

Attached: shit.jpg (225x325, 17K)

If it were going for realism it'd be fucking full of ERP anyway.

The series also had the issue with not really knowing what to do with death/player killing despite making it a focal point a few times. At worst I think it's like a 24hr respawn time, don't remember if you lose items or exp though. Then there are players who exclusively hunt player killers, which would only seem to serve as to annoy someone if there's a long respawn time.

midoris days is still one of the best love story ever

On the other hand, considering when the show was made, most people had little to no experience with MMORPGs, EQ and UO being the most popular around then and it seems like a lot of its ideas were sort of ripped from an amalgamation of a bunch of different things.

It was also based on a VN that is considered one of the grandfathers of the dating sim genre.

Dropped it after the one kid randomly fell and died. Knowing it has some polarizing anime original shit played a part though.

how many episodes? what about crest of stars?

I'm halfway through this. It's pretty good.

People found this shit funny?

How the fuck could you rewatch Yumeria, that shit was so ass. That said I jerked off too it when I was like 14

Not really, it's humor is lolsorandom kind of like excell saga

Hope it won't be a bad upscale.
It the complete series.

But why did the blue haired girl rape the blonde? Even if she wanted the blonde to hate her, all she had to do was kill someone. The rape was unnecessary and didn't work.

Attached: 581469469.jpg (960x400, 303K)

I watched the first episode of The SoulTaker and was really impressed by the visuals and animation. Reminded me a lot of Shin Hurricane Polymar.

I disagree, I think nostalgia isn't going to receed in the 20's at all, at least in the west. Slightly obscure 00's shows are sometimes shockingly hard to find and are often impossible to improve the quality of which give them a nice air of finding hidden gems. I think we'll also feel nostalgia for software, and most likely the old web. The nostalgia wave will continue because society is getting more polarized and is in a state of change which creates anxiety. The 00's are next in line.

Attached: mokke.jpg (701x396, 66K)

I tried watching that and was put off instantly.

I love how aged that image is.

Not great

The style only makes it worse too, it's annoyingly confusing.

Well, the manga is from the early 80s after all.

What I found so brilliant about the first season was that the cast of characters for each episode seemed totally random. In later seasons they had standard groupings they tended to stick to, but in the first season they randomly threw together groups even though their personalities didn't necessarily accentuate each others', but the end result was very interesting.

Allowed myself to get baited into re-picking up Testuwan Atom 2003. Still terrible, and the animation quality still takes a nosedive after 5 episodes. Way more CG support than I remember, though.
Met a bunch of people who have a pretty big hardon for this show and I've never understood why. It's a good watch, but really no more than that. Feels like it never actually tries to leave medriocrity and does something to set it apart from the rest. Albeit (I guess) one could argue that there aren't a lot of anime comparable to it in the first palce.
Manga is better. Typical Gonzo adaptation. What sells the series' atmosphere is the gritty art, something Gonzos shitty CG simply failed to match.
Should have spent the money on adapting the other 2 novels for now or a remake. Monshou might gain something from this but Senki looks so shit I that a remaster can't save it.

And Brigadoon is still the most underrated anime ever.

Does 07 count as mid 00's? I'm currently watching Sketchbook Full Color's and it's very relaxing. The OP feels like a gust of wind and it just lulls me into the perfect mood for this slow paced comedy/SoL. I'm not usually into the "desperate/depressed teacher" archetype but this sensei is great and her chicken is adorable.

2000-2005.

sunrise-inc.co.jp/seikai/04/story.php
If these screenshots are any indication of the actual quality of the Blu-ray, they might have actually done a recomposite of the later seasons. The DVDs definitely didn't look anywhere as good.

Attached: 02. Banner of the Stars (Seikai no Senki) (2000) [DVD 480p Hi10P AAC][kuchikirukia] [C43B39F6].mkv_[ (706x530, 406K)

Hidamari no Ki is nothing spectacular, but it beats most historical TV dramas I've seen. It has a good balance of things happening at a decent pace without becoming overly dramatical nor turning into a documentary. The closest semi-recent thing I can think of is Onihei, and between them I vastly prefer Hidamari. The only thing I can't stand is the music.

My favorite early 2000s anime is Samurai Champloo

Normalfag taste.

You expect me to cry or something? It was a good anime

I didn't really feel it, and it was less dark than people gave the impression of. It was okay, but I never really felt a true connection.

Yeah, the opening theme is really good. I listen to it often.

One interesting thing about it is that the character designs kind of look like the 90s artstyle, but the colors and everything else look like the 2000s. It's a really interesting look, and the 90s artstyle looks great anyway.
