That Kaigaku had a slightly different mindset of the Kaigaku who became a demon. Kaigaku back then was still waiting for their master to cave in to Kaigaku's ambition and just choose him as the one and true successor of the Breath of Thunder; demon Kaigaku was long over trying to play the disciple game so he lost the minimal respect he had for Jigoro.
Like Kaigaku says it himself, people who agree and enable his ways are good, those who don't evil; Jigoro had become "evil" to him by then.

So I'm the user from a few days ago who said I'd talk about kny when I marathoned it.
Thoughts? I love this manga. The art looks unique and intricate at the same time. The fights are lethal and the backstories are nice.
The only qualm I had was how fast the plot progressed and how fast the main cast got strong, but I'm starting to go back on that thought now, since doing it this way means it won't drag like most shonen do.
I also love the MC for being a nice but unbeta character that has developed nicely throughout the manga. I'm still mourning Rengoku though.

Yeah I noticed it was very dark at the beginning and the comedic parts after around c40 helped humanise the characters. Going more about the power system, I love elemental power systems that are simplistic but have levels of power to them. Breathing is a really interesting concept and it's malleable enough to have multiple applications. I'm really happy kny survived the axe period that ended many manga that were made around the time of kny's release.
Regarding my favourite character, I feel like Giyuu and Gyoumei are my favourites. I love characters that have guilt ridden pasts that try and make something of it afterwards. Uzui is also on my list for being a funny fuck with three wives that all love him.
My favourite arc is the train arc where Rengoku passes. It was dire and Akaza came straight out of nowhere so Tanjirou could only look in pain as Rengoku fought. His flashback was short and sweet, which is a special wuality in this manga since it uses the time where a character's life "flashes before their eyes" to explain the flashback. I liked the callback to supreme territory after that fight, and also since UM1 uses it as well when he stared at Tokitou.
All in all I really like this manga.

Now you get to enjoy waiting every week for the new chapter. I love this manga but I miss being able to read a bunch of chapters in a row like I did before.
I'd say my top three favorite characters are Inosuke, Shinobu and Giyuu. Shinobu's fighting style/backstory/sacrifice was so cool and moving. And yeah the way flashbacks are used is interesting, but sometimes I wish the manga would slow down just a bit so we can see things happen in real time. For example when Inosuke remembered his conversation with Shinobu with the pinky promise.

The series doesn't really comment upon how a lower ranked Hunter would meet a Pillar under normal circunstances, at first it is said that Pillars themselves would pick a successor candidate and train them, and before the Pillar Summit Tanjiro had no idea that there even existed these high class Hunters called Pillars, he had no idea Urokodaki was a former Pillar either. So I guess the probability of Kaigaku never meeting Himejima is not unlikely; also Wani maybe didn't want to develop this backstory further as Kaigaku didn't even recall of Himejima in his past as he died off.

I think the conversation is about if Kaigaku ever realized Himejima was a Pillar during the time he, Kaigaku, was a hunter. Himejima was definitely already a Pillar by the time Kaigaku joined the Demon Slaying Corps, Himejima became a Pillar in 2 months after joining, he was 19 at the time, he is 27 years old now, longest running active Pillar currently so in 8 years is quite a long time to wonder if Kaigaku ever heard of Himejima and vice-versa.

I think Kaigaku is older than Zenitsu, he seemed to be his senior both in martial arts and age, the selection exam seemed to have people all close in age (15 to 16 years old) so I assume Kaigaku had already taken the exam a few years earlier while Jigoro took Zenitsu to participate once he hit 16. Maybe volume 17 will give a briefing on Kaigaku's age since the Databook didn't reveal details on anything that has happened after Volume 16.

So the chapter just confirmed you can get a Pillar promotion by defeating a Moon even if not solo; all Main Characters have to become Pillars next arc then. Then again technically everyone has killed a Moon before with assistance, unless it cancels out if a Pillar is involved.

Maybe the situation was getting too dire for them to just get another Hunter who qualifies but couldn't be sure to be match for the upcoming fights; you can see Obanai vent out at Uzui at the end of the Red Light District arc that the Hunters below the Pillars were seemly "too weak" but Uzui then begs to differ as he finally recognizes as Tanjiro and his friends as being above the norm; also when Nezuko conquered the sun Shinjuro and Uzui temporarily came out of retirement so the Corps might have not feel as pressured as they were to find new Pillars.
This arc however is much likely to create another demmand for fresh Pillars, the final death toll is up in the air, one more Pillar died with Shinobu.

Yeah, now looking back it seems dexterity is required for the remaining 5 forms, Kaigaku did many sword swings and slashes for his attacks, while Zenitsu remained exclusively in his Iaijutsu discipline, so the 1st Form is moreso dependant on one's legs than their actual swordsmanship beyond a clean cut slash. In the end it seems Zenitsu's own crafted 7th Form is also one slash, but power and speed beyond his most powerful Thunderclap Flash Godspeed.

The only thing I'm worried about is train and red light arcs are roughly 46 chapters. So another 26 episodes would mean it would be even slower. The swordsmith arc plus training would be around 35 chapters, and the current arc will be pretty long I'm assuming. The best thing they could do is turn train into a movie, then do red light and swordsmith village together for 50+ chapters. Then hit training and current arc for season 3

Why the other Messenger Crows get no panel/screen time? You can even pretend only Tanjiro has a crow, and Zenitsu a sparrow, in the whole story and it wouldn't make much of a diference, and yet Wani has given the other character's crows, such as Inosuke's and Mitsuri's, unique designs despite them only appearing in literally one page in the series so far.
Also ufotable is sure shilling the fuck out of Chuntarou, after a point you never see it again in the manga beyond extra volume pages, and that time Zenitsu got the letter with bad news.
