"Kaioken times four googlequinbillion!!!" and it shows the fucking universal milky way supercluster. and the beam just- it vaporizes all of it! and it zooms out again and it's just white light because it's too zoomed out and all you're seeing are dots of ultraclusters of galaxies like pixels on a computer monitor. and Goku is just mowing them all down, because he's SO STRONG and his number is SO BIG! and then it goes to Cell, or Jiren, or Demigra or Pilaf after absorbing the Seven Rainbow Multiverse Dragon Balls of Legend or whatever, and he's like "Oh no, his power level is too big." and he vanishes! Serious question: are CSSB Goku/Vegeta on the level of the a GoDs or two?

On one hand, that furry one said that Goku and Toppo's fight was "already on the level of us Gods of Destruction", Zamasu describes Hit and Goku as "this close to the power of the Gods of Destruction", and Beerus tells Vegeta he could be a GoD in another universe.

On the other, Goku is blown away by the power of the GoDs in the exhibition match (and can't really follow the match), Goku is flabbergasted when he learns about someone "stronger than a God of Destruction!?" as if that's a level no one came close to reaching, the GoDs are all shown to be able to hurt each other in the exhibition match and gain edges over all the others at the same time with special techniques, and "stronger than a God of Destruction" was consistently used out of universe to hype up Broly and Jiren, which makes little sense if rage boosted Vegeta and not-KK CSSB Goku can be described the same way.

On the other other hand, Goku does seem shocked by how powerful Jiren is even before the latter powers up despite viewing the full power of all the GoDs including the one Toppo compared him to, implying the gap is quite big.

DB Super is the best thing that happened to the series. Not only because it birthed Jiren, but also it broke unprecedented records.
Peaks in animation never seen before, astounded the masses. It adapted so well to modern animation standrards that is a far cry from the outdated material that is DB & DBZ. With beautiful colors and visuals, it makes the characters have contrast and stand out from the rest, as opposed to the dim and depressing color palette from the past.
Story wise is also more intricate than its previous counterparts. Super has emotion, interesting and unique antagonists, and complicated stories that the dull minds may have trouble fully understanding them. The old series have the old and worn out "new generic bad guy is coming, let's train!!"
I'm so glad they saved the franchise like this.

Remember how when Goku climbed Karin's tower, he couldn't get the water from Karin, even though he could probably kick the cat's ass? Karin was better than him thanks to speed alone.
There's also the fact that learning to move without thinking is the key to UI, and if you can do that while being able to physically anticipate where your opponent would attack, you would be able to dodge a stronger opponent.

The characterization for Frieza here was a lot better than most other villains. We actually see inside his head and struggling with being bested. With cell/buu it was them being more powerul until suddenly they lost and died.

Frieza is the driving force behind the franchise plot and his story is inextricably linked with Vegeta and Goku. All their whole lives were leading up to Namek in a way

Third was briefly seen in a flashback in the ToP arc, where a beaten down Freeza is vaporized by Goku's Kamehameha; the implication being it went similarly to the RoF movie. 0-3.

The fourth one took place off-screen, when Freeza refused to come with Goku to fight in the ToP. When we next see them, they're both pretty banged up, but Goku is happy while Freeza is pouting, crossing his arms, and looking down because he's been dragged out there against his will. 4-0.

The fact that Trunks was able to incinerate him so easily shows he isn't greatly more durable than anyone else of the same power level. Trunks was only around as strong as Goku on Namek, to the point that everyone confused him for the former when he first showed up, and while Freeza wasn't bulked up he was almost certainly at his full power "base" meaning 50%. And he was stronger than he was on Namek where his 50% was about 40% of SS Goku, so that means Trunks was able to casually disintegrate Freeza down to nothing with a ~x2 power difference.

Krillin in the manga actually had a point. He helped Freeza earn Frost's trust which let the former manipulate the latter into eliminating several ~SS-tier fights and then himself. This was actually pretty clever as it turned the weakness of the humans into a strength. After all, who cares if Tenshinhan and Krillin get eliminated? They weren't going to contribute regardless. It kind of baffles me that fans of the TV series complain that the manga "didn't give enough focus to the other universes." It's like they never read any of the other tournament arcs. It's just like the 22nd Budokai, only the Turtle School and Crane School mattered. Aside from them, there were a few gimmick fighters and a bunch of weak fodder that got eliminated mostly off-screen. That's a pretty good approximation of the ToP.

Except the ToP is actually significant longer than the Budokai arcs has a third 'team' (U6, U7, and U11) instead of just two. And actually has more fighters with some focus from the 'fodder' teams than previous arcs. This is despite its tone intentionally being that of a chaotic, fast-paced battle royale (hence the 48 minute time limit), a feeling that the anime didn't convey at all.

Even at full speed/power Freeza was still dodging and blocking some of his attacks and after Gohan interfered Freeza wasn't hurt at all. Dyspo's a shitter and the distand third wheel of the PT.

This is why I like manga Jiren so much more. He does what he needs to do to preserve justice while he's walking his own path.
When the tourney starts, he immediately tries to end it in a quick fashion, knocking people off right out of the gate. When he fights Goku, he doesn't want to play around with him, he just wants to get the whole thing over with because he wants to protect his universe and meet his master.
When Goku, and later Goku + Vegeta overpower him, he doesn't throw a hissyfit like in the anime, he attempts to maintain his composure and a reason is given for why he is losing, that being his continued need to be on his own and find what he believes is true strength.
When he gets knocked out, he doesn't cry, he doesn't get mad, he just apologizes for his failure, and his team mates show understanding.
Honestly, the more I think about manga Jiren, the more I find him actually endearing. When I think about anime Jiren, I think about the man who dragged the tournament out as long as possible by not getting involved, acted like a villain towards people who wanted the same thing as him, tried to attack people who weren't part of the match because of a generic "We Are Nakama" speech. I hate that Jiren.

Nah, I agree 100%. While I admit I didn't enjoy the manga version of the ToP (and while I enjoyed the anime a bit more, I have a lot of problems with that, too); Manga Jiren is a definite improvement over his character and, while not a lot, gives him meaning for his stoic assholeness.

Between Giccin and being less of a dickwad toward Toppo, he was just more of an enjoyable character and not ayy lmao sasuke.

I like manga Jiren because his jerk moments are not because he's actively malicious, but because he is completely resigned to having to do everything by himself. Jiren is still kind of a dick, but only in the sense that he disregards other people. He lets his teammates fall out because they're obviously useless, but he also doesn't trash talk them for being weak. He actually acts like one would expect a person to act who is stuck among shitters but strong enough to carry everything yourself. If you can carry everything yourself (easily) then there's no need to get mad at your teammates for being weak, but at the same time you're not gonna pretend like they can help you. Plus there's still the current arc, if Frieza gets involved he could take in those prisoners who would make his army much stronger while he works on getting that tag team partner to help him with Goku and Vegeta. Broly's still his main pick but he's probably down with other options if that doesn't work out.

U11 having only 3, too strong fighters left made them not a priority to fight, U7 was the main target as they had the most fighters left most of the 2nd half and goku was weakened. The second Goku got a technique that could almost match Jiren, he should've pulled out all the stops though.

To be fair, for all the (justified) trashing both Toyo and Toei get, Toriyama is the worst thing about nuDB (Broly aside), his outlines just plain suck. So the more he's defied the better. If anime stuck with Toppo-personality Jiren the anime ToP would be way more enjoyable, it's still miles better than manga version, larger because they could pull a lot of more things that weren't in the shitty outline. Super simply gave him the position he was the least suited for, he went into each DB arc with little planning and constantly changed things because of both his whims and editors and it still was always better than anything Super.

I mean, the anime has a few solid character moments, a very good soundtrack, and great fight scenes, but literally every arc suffers from bad animation, pacing issues, and stupid asspulls. The manga, while not perfect, is much more tightly written.
