The cruelest thing Jonathan has ever done was telling Dio that "I came here to kill you" and he even underlined that with how painful it is to say

Poor translations made him feel like he has the attitude of a wet paper bag. Not to mention, Bucellrati seemed more of a main character than Giorno.

Most of the interesting stuff about Giorno is in the Jesus symbolism and imagery. He's the son of GOD who inspires a group of sinners to betray the Devil and usurps the Devil's kingdom for good. Sadly, when it comes to the actual plot he plays a back-seat role mostly working through his influence on the other characters. You don't see as much of Giorno himself doing things as you do Giorno inspiring his allies to be better and do better.

Most of it was just really boring up until the second half of the second season. Stands weren't very interesting, fights were repetitive, screentime between cast was handled terribly, Jotaro isn't that fun to watch, didn't like DIO as much here. The final fight is pretty great though, even if it's filled with a lot of bullshit.

I love Giorno but I can't help but agree. Turning Giorno from a sassy asshole to a generic straightforward hero the moment he joined Passione was a big mistake. Araki completely forgot his personality for most of the part.

Part 5 had big potential and good fights as many parts do. Though the passione is boring, gay and unlikeable as fuck. Bruno was mildly interesting but they all had poor synergy in terms of how they interacted with each other during and outside fights compared to like the Stardust Crusaders or Morioh Warriors.

I do remember when everything was over it left a refreshing feel to it. Probably the reason why it didn't hit me is because i have not read the coloured version

the side character interactions were great actually it's just that giorno became flaccid. he started off so strong i fell in love with him at but that side of giorno completely went away. he didn't bring a unique GANG STAR flare the entire way through, just ended up being kind of like jonathan put into a different setting.

The supporting cast is completely forgettable because Jolyne hogs the spotlight. It's the opposite of Part 5.

Planet Waves & C-Moon are the 3rd and 2nd best physical action fights in all of Jojo. Diego & Hotpants vs Valentine is the best.

Made in Heaven is a glorious massacre where everything goes wrong for the squad and none of their ideas work.

Foo Fighters and Weather Report are great, Rykiel and Versus are great too.

Highway to Hell is comedy gold and if you're rating it as filler or bad then you need to dilate. but i respect your opinion

Take into account that part 1 and 2 were written in the 80's following a tendency of GAR macho men seen on hollywood movies. Jojo began to turn into it's own thing until stardust crusaders. For part 5 having a weak plot is less excusable given what we had with kira on part 4

I find all of Part 3 to be atrocious because it does a piss poor job at masking the monster of the week formula. The plot comes to a standstill in favor of fights riddled with uninteresting, fake tension for like 85% of Part 3 while having no effect at all on the overarching story.

On the other hand, when the setting and tone of the part tries to make the formula a natural part of its story, it produces some really GOAT stuff like Parts 4, 5 and 7, where almost all the fights happen for a reason and almost all of them are interesting to watch.

My experience exactly. First part that actually felt like a slog to read. Thank god 7 came in for a breath of fresh air afterwards, and 8's been solid so far.

The "monster of the week formula" is a modern complain. Back when it was published it was outstanding because it wasn't aboused to today's point and the weird stand habilities became pioneers for future series like one piece, hunter x hunter or shaman king.

The endind would have been more satisfying if Fugo was the one kissing Giorno's hand in the end.

After not liking the ending in the manga I came to really enjoy it in the anime. Sleeping Slaves couldn't be at the beginning since 1) it reveals 2 crew stands early and 2) it spoils deaths. Maybe seeing half of it at the start or at least Bruno taking orders and half of it at the end would've made it feel more in place. Or maybe just make an OVA I don't know. I'm still satisfied with what we got. The ending isn't bad either. It's just that Rolling Stones cuts it in 2 parts and it feels tideous since we just wanna see what happens next. The ending by itself tho is no worse than part 3 and probably 2 and 1

Part of what makes Jojo a tense show is not knowing when are the characters going to get killed. If Rolling Stone was a thing from the beggining you would be putting death flags everytime a character says a line.

Did we read the same thing. Jolyne gradually maturing and Stone Free's use gradually getting more creative and varied is probably the highlight of Part 6.

If you've seen what Mista did to the innocent sculptor you will see that the whole gang is a bunch of arrogant assholes who think themselves are above the law. They try to make them likeable by talking about friendship and pretending they have principles (even though they act as judge, jury and executioner against anyone they don't like, and even though they don't even want to stop committing crimes, just want to stop selling drugs to children) but it falls flat. Anyone who lives in an area dominated by mafia knows how terrifying they can be even if they pretend to be nice, even if they're just asking for money for your "protection", so you can't even root for Giorno with a clear conscience, knowing he will continue with all that. To top it off their personalities are super boring, which makes for the worst protagonist team in the series by far.

I find Johnny to be a interesting character do to how morally gray of a Jojo he is in comparison to the previous 6. He's selfish and is looking out for numero uno throughout the part, but his development I think is tied with him trusting Gyro and opening up more. It's nothing groundbreaking but I do find him to be more wise by the end of part 7, with him being able to accept his losses and just move on after he was so hung up with losing his legs, his asshole father, and Gyro.

It's over. The worst Jojo part in history is finally over.
Every weakness of part 5 was either unchanged or exaggerated by the anime adaptation. The pacing was even more shit than in the manga. The art style is just terrible, everything is much uglier than the manga, shading is terrible, the more complicated character designs forced animators to made animation almost non existent (aside from a couple of sakuga moments for sakugafags to jerk off to and being used as an argument for retards who think this anime looks good). The color swaps are terrible. The anime literally looks like Power Point presentation. It's GARBAGIO.
The main character is a gary stu SAO-like protagonist, so bland and so perfect for self-inserts that s o y males will obviously defend him. He's a shitty version of Jotaro. Giorno's goal is so uninspired and holds zero novelty. All character interactions feel artificial and forced most of the time, but especially those between Giorno and the crew, Araki sacrificed the time he could use to develop their relationship for MINDLESS fights (with zero actual tension) and DP didn't bother to fix this. There's zero chemistry between Giorno and others. The story and charmless characters are the poor man's version of part 3's.
The humor in this part is non existent, the characters lack any charisma and don't exhibit a personality that would invoke hilarity.
The constant action is boring and MotW formula often deranges the proper flow of the story, which fucks up the pacing even further.
The arrow is introduced too late, when we're like 70% into the story, thus feels like a forced plot convenience (which it is).
The stands are the most inconsistent in the series, next to part 6.
The stakes are extremely low, there's no tension.

The problem with Giorno as a main protagonist is that he's a victim of circumstances. He's a newbie to the organization, so it's normal for him to be less open and more formal toward the other members of the gang, something that's going to be solved over time.
The problem with him being a newbie in that situation is that he'll always remain a newbie and stay formal to the other members because the entirety of the events of part 5 occur over the course of THREE FUCKING DAYS. If it occured over the course of 50 days like part 3, I feel like Giorno would have better chemistry with the other members of the group.

Part 2 is pretty engaging with plenty of interesting characters.

Part 3 drags pretty hard and is much more episodic than other parts, mostly because the majority of the story is the MCs encountering obstacles on their way to the actual plot.

Part 4 is also pretty episodic before the introduction of Kira, but gets more interesting once they start hunting him.

Part 5 is pretty good and more brutal than any previous part.

Part 6 is a hot debate topic.

Part 7 has an amazing overarching story.

Part 8 is Morioh with much more interesting characters and a super interesting main plot, probably the best.

Part 1 is one of the strongest and most consistent parts plotwise and thematically. It's about Johnathan learning to grow up and become a gentleman, and how he needs to face the brother he loves as that brother becomes an inhuman monster.
Unlike later Parts where there are fights that don't service the characters well, every fight in Part 1 is important to most of the characters involved. They aren't as flashy as later fights, but they help naturally develop Johnthan so that he can walk up to Dio, look him in the eyes and commit to killing him despite his familial love for him.

That isn't to shit on later parts, I feel all the Parts are great in their own ways, some (Part 2-4) lesser than others due to poor plot structure or characters, other greater (Part 5-7 and potentially 8) because of utilizing everything at their disposal to further the themes, plot and characters in meaningful ways.
Also noticed the crowd that shits on Johnathan and Part 1 are some of the people who shit on Giorno for not having a character, when he does, it's just more understated and shown through smaller actions.
tl;dr Part 1 is incredibly underrated and the only bad part is how little of a character William is. But at least he helps Johnathan develop both in life and in death and builds up the fate aspect of JoJo's.

Most of the fights in Part 5 are in service to themes and/or characters.
Bruno's fight is what gave Bruno his respect for Giorno, and this plus the Black Sabbath fight characterize Giorno incredibly well and illustrate his goals and what he'll do to attain them, separating him from both his father's immediately.
The following fight again, characterizes Giorno well. He knows Abbachio doesn't trust him, so what does he do? He puts all his faith into Abbachio, and gives himself up to the enemy so that they may figure out how to beat the stand.
The following fights don't involve GIorno too often, rather, they focus on the other characters. The following one doesn't work as well, but it shows Mista's quick thinking and paints a good idea of what his character is and will do.
Little Feet shows off Narancia's personality and how he'll act, Man in the Mirror feels like it was meant to set up the Fugo fight that never came and is the first fight that falls flat for characterization.
I could go on forever, and I am being brief here, but I believe Part 5 does a great job with what it has, and is vastly underrated. The only filler fights I feel are Man in the Mirror (unless you want to say that's not filler for being Fugo's moment) and arguably Secco.
Part 2's characters don't really develop honestly. They just have backstory baggage. The plot structure is fine though, only issue is that it's just fine. I accept it as the fun action movie part, the Return of the Living Dead of JoJo's.
Part 4 though, that's bad because of how it has more fights that add nothing to the characters, in an attempt to more characterize the town itself. That, and the pacing was fucked in the manga.

The way i think of it is there are multiple possibilities for things to play out leading to multiple "truths", Giorno blocked off the one path that would lead to Diavolos victory so he can never reach it, and instead forced him to experience every other path that would lead to his death.

Part 3 is a slog until Egypt. Every fight in Egypt is fucking kino.

Johnathan is always fated to lose to Dio, Dio is always fated to die to Johnathan, Diavolo is able to predict fate and evade it through King Crimson, Giorno gets the power to overcome this and change Diavolo's fate. Part 5 literally ends, with a big ball that predicts your inevitable fate.
There's also Pucci whose whole plan is based around fate (gravity) and the whole reason Diego comes back with The World is because Johnny was fated to lose to him.

Fate is an overarching theme in JoJo because of what occurs in each part. The manipulation of time is an inherent manipulation of one's own fate. With DIO, his time stop created his own world, where he could do what he wanted without the influence of fate, or so he though. When Jotaro invaded his world, that was fate, causing the two to come together at this time and resulting in the inevitable fate of Jotaro killing DIO. That's also why he kills DIO Over Heaven in the non-canon game.
Kira reverses time to stop the fate of his identity being exposed.
Diavolo skips times and looks into the future (your fate) to evade and change it, so that he won't be a soldier to fate.
Pucci tries to manhandle fate into doing what he wants, and the Part literally ends by showing all the main characters were fated to meet each other in the new universe.
There's also smaller bits, like Zepellis always being fated to help the Joestars (William, Ceaser, Gyro).

2 is more important than 5 just for being between 1 and 3, it explains the mask mythos etc., and having Joseph in part 3 people could ask what was his story, he's one of the main characters, meanwhile you can have part 6 without part 5 because there's no NEW important characters in 5 that appear in part 6, and then there's just another universe. Original Jojo could've ended at part 3 and nothing would be lost. Skipping a Jojo who is a stand user (Joseph) would feel just weird.
