Boruto being one of the many descendants from Naruto, is one the few people who can still use ninjutsu, and as such is taken an raised to be an actual ninja. So now since tech has long surpassed regualr ninjutsu he has to actually sneak around and outwit enemies to kill them (I dunno maybe some weird cult who held onto the legend of the tailed beasts and are trying to bring them back for their own purposes or something)

In Naruto the first part we had great villans and interesting motivations and sense of mystery to each character (except Sakura)
We had Haku, zabuza, Garaa, Orichimaru and the sound four.
All of them were huge challenges to our characters but in buroto no main or secondary character is actually interesting except for kawaki. All the villans are bland creepy aliens who are way op and the next generation is pretty much useless against them and their existence only make Naruto and Sasuke mission to defeat them harder and more complex.
Boruto now is pretty much fucked because it can't just fix these problems now after 116 episodes.

Yeah, I don't have particularly high hopes for what they're planning to do for this so-called 'end of shinobi' era, but I'm curious enough to at least wait until I have a clearer picture on the scenario before passing judgement. I'd also like to see what led to Boruto going from his pampered, energetic self to an apparently more serious and solemn character and if that change is actually handled well. Only time will tell.

This actually is a big part of Boruto's issues. While he doesn't suck as much as his dad did and is talented in his own right, he still feel inadequate as his father's son. He got in ego boost in the academy but got kicked down to reality quickly in the chuunin exams after nearly failing multiple times only being saved last minute not by his own efforts. He starts to realize he can't coast of his natural talents and against other kids he's lacking. It's why he starts cheating. Not only does he feel the pressure of being the Hokage's son, he also wants to make his father proud and live up to these expectations as best he can. His resentment is just a product of that and classic misdirection of feelings as it's clear he doesn't hate his father during their talk in Bort's room. He respects his father a lot and yearns for his approval. It's why he gets pissed off when he's not able to master Rasengan early on and lashes out when he gets caught cheating he's an immature kid who doesn't know how to deal with his emotions yet.

His lack of a goal is also an intentional flaw Sasuke points out, Bort is lazy, unmotivated, pampered, and hasn't really struggled a day in his life as he mirrors his father in a lot of ways he's also his complete. And clearly his arc will be about finding what it is he wants and who he wants to be.

True, maybe Boruto could be an average ninja at best and is only a ninja because he feels obligated to be one since he's the son of the hokage and his grandfather was also the 4th hokage. Still doesn't make the expectations of those in the village. The beginning part of the series could be about Boruto struggling to find the motivation to be keep being a ninja and to find a goal in his life.

Kumo tried to kidnap Kushina and the then-current Raikage tried to kidnap baby Hinata and caused Neji's father to be killed but Konoha allies with them anyway. Iwa hired the Akatsuki more than any other nation but the rest of the nations ally with them anyway. Suna tried to destroy Konoha and indirectly killed the third Hokage but Konoha allies with them anyway. After three wars there must be other instances of bad blood between the nations but they all become best friends anyway. All of those Naruto forgave deserve forgiveness.
Sasuke had his entire family killed by his brother then mind raped by his brother then actually his brother is a good guy. How is he supposed to react? He killed the person who gave his brother the order, that's it.
Obito spent a monthslong painful recovery in confinement thinking only of his friends while Madara tells him all about the world of only love and the first thing he sees when he gets out is one suicide themselves on the other. The main thing he's accused of (war deaths) are 100% Kabuto's fault, and alien revival is also only Kabuto and Madara's fault but he cleans it up anyway.
He didn't forgive Madara, though maybe Hashirama did.
Orochimaru is borderline, he conducted experiments that killed people and he killed Sarutobi, but he also revived the four Hokage who were important in the war. As a result he's not free, he's under permanent house arrest.
Kabuto is the weirdest one, he's responsible for 40,000 deaths (upgrades crappy zetsu and provides edo tensei army) which he seemingly did for no reason whatsoever, and obviously partook in the same experiments as Orochimaru but now he gets to hang around children. Arguably eternal good guy Itachi mind broke Kabuto so hard that old Kabuto "died".

The kid had no parents to give him manners and he was a massive a attention whore because he was treated like shit and wanted everyone to look at him. His behavior made sense. Boruto has everything, yet he still whines.

The only way Boruto can be saved in eyes if he actually becomes a bad guy. He doesn't have to stay like that, but that would making different from Naruto - like a darker reflection. Naruto grew up with nothing, but eventually gained it all and became a world hero, while Boruto grew up with everything and tossed it all away and becomes disgraced.

At least with the early arcs, there's been an attempt at exploring the parts of the world that haven't really accepted the new peace, or are remnants the older generation's focus on constant warfare.

Sumire and Nue, for instance, were one Danzo's contingency plans. Shin Uchiha was one of Orichimaru's experiments gone wrong. The Seven Swordsman arc in particular had a lot of potential but it was neutered partially by Bort being such a strictly PG show. They could have made a lot of parallels to The Land of Waves arc, maybe go for the kind of setup that Metal Gear Rising had.

I don't think Naruto and Sasuke being super overpowered is much of a problem. Especially with the setup of Bort not really trusting them, you can still make the fights and whatnot take place behind their backs, essentially. Basically, just have Bort let things go too far and be too stubborn to ask for help. Part 1 of Naruto had a similar power gap and was still able to have meaningful stakes in every arc.

On that subject, I think it's dumb that Boruto relies so heavily on shadow clones. Realistically, he should outright refuse to use the jutsu because it's his father's signature jutsu. Ideally he would develop a similar technique, kind of keeping in line with shadow clones and the flying raijin techniques, and just give him a bayakugan. Ideally, make the power gap itself be one of the main themes of the show, point out the "might makes right" mentality that Naruto is still essentially continuing. Focus on scientific ninja tools as a kind of equalizer.

I'm fine with the Otsutsuki being an auxiliary villain, if only to keep the adults relevant. The problem is that they're just aliens, they don't really have relate-able motives like the Part 1 and Shippuden villains did. I'm not sure how I would change it exactly, but they shouldn't be the primary focus beyond providing an actual threat.

Naruto is the main character. Even the manga knows the readers want Naruto. He does Hokage business and tries to maintain the peace he built. Boruto is sorta like the Gohan - he plays a role, but he isn't the main player of the story.

With Naruto taking the forefront, characters like Shikamaru, Sai, Ino, and even Mirai have their roles expanded since they work closely with the Hokage.

The plot doesn't have to drastically change. Kara and Kawaki can still exist. Naruto can still take Kawaki in and have the story focus on Naruto trying to set him on the right path knowing what Kara has done to him, along with seeing a little of himself in Kawaki, so he won't become another Gaara/Sasuke/Nagato/Obito in this new era. With this part of the plot laid out, there would be lengthy focus between Naruto and his Alliance against Jigen and his organization, building up to the inevitable Naruto vs. Jigen fight. The rest of the Otsutsuki clan would also make more appearances since Naruto is already strong enough to handle them early, unlike Boruto.

The manga is monthly and Ikemoto is very bad with pacing. There is also a lot of time gaps in the manga that is literally begging to be filler for the anime. I wouldn't exactly call Jigen an endgame villain, but he's definitely a major one like Pain.
