There's this meme of hating on the ramen chapter, for some reason. The fact that the anime would have benefited a lot from one episode more made it even worse.

I watched the anime first so I guess I am biased. They adapted the old man ramen chapter without adapting the chapter where fujiwara gets introduced to ramen by prez, which made it seem disjointed and completely out of nowhere.

Both are facets of the same fundamental drive, to avoid giving others control over your life. You're afraid of asking someone out because it gives them the choice. You're afraid of being the supplicant half of the relationship because it gives them the control.

The narrator is one opinion. I am free to make my own observations and inferences. The narrator represents the pleb way of thinking in terms of just going with the flow and not paying conscious attention to what's happening, which may indeed lead to greater happiness, but it doesn't invalidate the fact that all the power dynamic stuff does still happen. In normal relationships people just aren't aware of what they're doing. If they were, everyone would be a neurotic wreck like those two. But it happens nonetheless.

Before you reply, consider this: how do abusive relationships happen? Because one side is outplayed by the other. Most couples are broadly balanced, at least initially, but abusive and failed relationships are common enough that you simply can't deny this shit does matter.

I think the author and narrator's main point is that if you try to deal with it all on a conscious level you will never get to enjoy the good parts of it all, even if the ship does end up sinking later.

Kaguya did for sort of the same reason and also the fact that she might ruin the relationship with the one who helped her become a better person.

In other words, the game manifested from their insecurities and it doesn't actually matter at all. Neither of them is the type of person who would take advantage of someone they love just because they are in a "submissive" position.

It's irrelevant that her flaws didn't matter to Prez, because she didn't even know that yet: she just wanted to lay it down bare in a situation of honesty and equality. If anything she's come to terms with the fact that Prez will always keep trying too hard out of pride no matter what she says, wich is definitely far from being in control.

He wants to be seen as a slacker up front while helping people in the background without them knowing. He tried confronting the villain, and it got turned all around on him, and he's not smart enough or confident enough to use his words to get out of such situations.
