Why did everyone hate him?
Why did everyone hate him?
Who hated him?
Because he's basically us. That shit had hit home and left a crater the size of Texas. We'll never recover from that ever again.
Because he's a faggot.
People of the Eva universe
Like who?
Everyone. He said it himself.
There wasn't a single likeable character besides Kaworu. Everyone else acted retarded at some point in the story
that is just is perception of himself projected on to others. No one actually hates him, not even Gendo
>Everyone.
Well, that's plain wrong.
>He said it himself.
He's an angst-ridden teenager. He is clueless.
He did nothing wrong
Humanity deserved to be tanged
You didn't like Kaji?
>Kaji
>Toju
>Kensuke
>retarded
Hating Shinki is pretty reddit tier ngl
>Kaworu
>likable
only to faggots
is correct
I honestly believe it's because people watch the eng dub which does a great job of making him sound like an insufferable faggot
honestly is the opposite
Or they do, but it's not everything they feel and it's not constant.
>Muh daddy issues
The females were less annoying and more manly than shinji was
So your logic is that mommy/daddy issues are manly when it's a girl that has them, very interesting
This.
I don't care if others hated him or not.
I sure do hate him.
I would totally jerk off to a chick in a comas tits
hes a whiny faggot
because he subverts gender roles
on top of being particularly femnine, his whole character arc is he disconnected with his anima, needing to become more nurturing and reciprical rather than more brash and gung-ho like guys think guys need to be. so they see him as a failure of a guy
Kaworu is a total bro and all the angels were cool as heck
The fucking show could have been called Daddy Issues Evangelion. It was the whole plot besides the robot shit. Not liking him for daddy issues means you just don't like the show.
He hated himself, he had no self confidence, couldn't understand the motives of others and felt like he didn't deserve friendship, so he was suspicious of others and constantly trying to please them often at the cost of himself.
He hurt immensely and because of that he didn't want others to feel like he did. That's why Asuka hated him. He genuinely cared about others before himself despite being a coward. He reminded her of what she desperately wanted herself but was too headstrong and independent to admit.
I rewatch the whole thing this week and I was (pleasantly) surprised by how little of an effeminate faggot Shinji actually is.
His reactions are quite understandable and along with Rei and Gendo he is the only one really powering through hardship. In the end he's the one that Rei entrusts with choice and he is the one to break instrumentality. He already managed to come back from dissolution in episode 20.
I had not watched the show in a decade and I guess I got progressively memed by Yea Forums into remembering Shinji as annoying when he is quite alright.
He was literally gay and ignored Asuka's approaches
He was also really selfish with his relationships toward the end. Wanting to be loved by others without really having to be vulnerable back and showing affection in return, hence his quick obsession with Kaworu. That's why Asuka, or at least Shinji's projection of her, in EoE rejected him outright. He was trying to use her as nothing more than a doll to give him love instead of actually trying to form something more supportive and symbiotic with her, which she desperately wanted.
Nothing wrong with ignoring a total cunt like Asuka
This. It's just like how Asuka though he rejected her in the walls of Jericho or during the kiss when he was to clueless to get what she wanted and she was hiding her real intent too deeply for him to get it.
He was so afraid to get hurt by others due to his hedgehog dilemma that he kept everyone at bay and then believed no one liked him because of it.
I found Shinji to still be super girly when I rewatched the show, but definitely not annoying.
Also I was surprised at how little focus and screentime Asuka and Rei get.
I don't.
>walls of jericho
I'm so sick of you retards repeating this. The quote is a reference to an old movie.
Asuka knew Shinji for like 2-3 days at this point, literally her second episode in the show. She wasn't making a pass at him.
Hijacking thread;
I just finished watching the Evangelion 3.0. Been watching the Rebuilds for the first time over the past couple days.
My god they were awful. 1.0 was prob the 'best', looked nice enough and the subtle changes has me intrigued, wtf happened? I was heavily contemplating just turning off 3.0 multiple times. The entire premise was dumb from the start of the movie, and I could only take so much random mumbo jumbo. Who the fuck is the new girl? It's awful to look at too, they just copy + paste these generic 3D primatives all over the place + flashy shit, impossible to look at.
His desire for a one sided love (which is what Kaworu embodies) really did annoy me at the end because I knew he was better than that. It's just that I don't think he believes it himself at that point.
Anno made them simply to satisfy the fans and to make money for his family. Same reason Toriyama continues Dragonball into the realm of absurdity.
EP22 literally proves you wrong. Maybe not a romantic pass but she was lonely and wanted actual support/comfort
You mean the retcon that was put in the director's cut TWO YEARS after the show first aired?
Okay, user.
It was originally a reference to an old movie. Then Anno read this fujoshit's doujinshi and decided to put her interpretation of Asuka into the show.
A reminder of what you're talking about for a guy who hasn't seen the show in 15+ years?
But wasn't it Shinji's love that was one-sided?
The episode shows Kaworu doesn't really care for Shinji, but Shinji still loves him even after he betrayed him
He was grasping at the end. Toji's maimed and evacuated, Kensuke's evacuated, Kaji's dead, Shinji has no idea how to comfort a mother figure grieving a dead lover and then she gets scary serious, Asuka doesn't know Kaji's dead and then she disappears, Rei isn't Rei, Shinji's sure by then he doesn't want to know his dad. How giving are you while drowning?
Oh yeah, you forgot that he was forced to learn about the true nature of the dummy plug system and then saw the destruction of it. Although that likely falls under
>Rei isn't Rei
>Talks to girls
>Makes friends fairly easy who clearly care about him (this makes that hedgehog monologue really dumb in hindsight)
>Misato makes him join her at his home and clearly grows maternal about him
>Can't appreciate Asuka has her own issues
>Rei doesn't really die
>Nerv spends a horrenous amount of money saving him time and time again
>Doesn't have to work about school
>Only knows Kamoru for like a day but killing him is the end of the world for Shinji
>Develops a backbone as the series goes on but throws it away due to the point above
>Questions wether the angels are evil before Kamoru even tohugh he first hand witnessed their destruction and Asukas helmet squishing a bunch of people infront of him
>Only real issue in life is that his dad doesn't say "well done son, i'm proud of you"
I like Eva for the design, the animation and the EoE really brings the series onto another level but honestly the depression shit is really half baked and shinji doesn't act like a depressed person for 99% of the series before Anno just turns them into mental patients in EoE
>>I found Shinji to still be super girly when I rewatched the show, but definitely not annoying.
I don't see the girly part. He is non-assertive in daily life. Not ethe daily life part, because when actually hard decisions come, he is the one making them.
It is made clear by the contrast of him living together with Asuka, who is the opposite, forcing her views on mundane shit but going into fetal position when hardship comes.
Directors cut version is more canon, doesn't really matter what you say. It's literally the definitive version
Her going to sleep on his bed in the same night is no retcon. She didn't exactly want him to kick down the door with a huge bulge on his crotch and bang her all night till her hips give out (she probably would end up liking it) but wanted someone to be close to her probably because she was nervous of fucking up in the next day.
The episode we are talking about is You two dance like you want to win the one where they battle Israfel the angel that divides in two. the night before the battle Asuka goes into another room and tells Shinji that the door that separates them are like the walls of Jericho and if he cross them he is dead but in reality during episode 22 where she is mindraped by Arael it shows that scene from Asuka PoV and she is down after she closes the door because she wanted some company but was to stubborn to admit it.
Was running on already, didn't want to fit
>jk, that girl you were ready to die for in the first episode really died this time. That one's an identical stranger and we grew the one you thought you knew inside a jar. Like these! We cut them up for parts. Oh, and have you been thinking about your mother lately? Hmm.
Seriously, that is one fucked up scene.
You can be depressed even while talking to others
His friends had to move away after the destruction of the city, also one of them got maimed in a fight with him.
Misato ends up going to serious after Kaji death and neglects both him and Asuka.
He had no way to know about Asuka issues, she shut herself away and her way of asking for help wasn't exactly the most easy to understand.
Rei dies she gets replaced by another clone and he ends up knowing all of it
Nerv spends money with him because Eva-01 only worked with him (Rei and Dummy plug ended up getting rejected later on) His father made it clear he only wanted him to pilot Eva and nothing more.
School is minor on this situation when fighting huge monsters but even in there he couldn't do things like go on visits since he had to stay in the city in case of attack.
You ignore everything that happened before Kaworu, Kaji's dead, Asuka is comatose and a mental wreck, Misato was too serious going spy, Rei is a clone of his mom and not even the same Rei he knew, his friends had to move away, Kaworu is the last pillar he has to a world that crumbling and he has to kill him because he's an angel.
Same as above, also his backbone also ended up being part of the reason why Asuka went on a downward spiral. Eva for her was everything and he bested her in the sinchro rates just for compliments of his father that never arrived.
It's normal in wars people questioning who is right or wrong.
You underestimate the weight that his Father has on his psyche. First his Mother was bitch that made sure he got traumatized when she was absorbed by 01 by bringing him to the contact experiment when she was perfectly aware of what would happen, then his Father abandons him to a family that doesn't give a fuck about him and then he only calls him when he needs him.
You can even say Shinji doesn't have parents he has progenitors who don't give a fuck about him and treat him as an object for their plans.
He is an idiot always frustrated with his father's thoughts, weak man and gay.
Because he reminds you of your own insecurities and it is a painful feeling.
>>Only real issue in life is that his dad doesn't say "well done son, i'm proud of you"
His dad is a complete fucking nutjob, he hates him and would probably kill himself if he rei was a bit more reliable, plans to kill Shinji and everybody else anyway.
He has no family and instead had to rely on bunch of people he just met to take care of him.
Misato is an awful motherly figure, her life is a mess.
The person he spends most time with is a passive aggressive teenager who is more confused about herself then Shinji.
Hes not exactly living the happy family life does he?
Not everyone
>knows him for a day
>only person who shows unconditional love to him
>only person to tell him he loves him and make him feel like a wanted human being
>forced to kill him
>why does it feel like the end of the world for him?
>Because he's basically us.
Speak for yourself, faggot. And get in the robot!
