This pretty much means - no more moe shows for at least the first half of the upcoming decade. It's time they, and especially the industry as a whole, will usher in a new age of grimdark. The eroticism, the violence, the horror, the angst, the maturity, the unsettling, alien, and bizarre sense of the unknown, the magic, the characterization, and a darker kind of mono no aware that was in everything, it just disapeared in the early 2000s. I think it's about time we get back to this old 80s/90s feeling.
I don't like what happed to KyoAni but the cancer was popularized on their backs. Yeah, we had the elements of moe and otaku pandering peppered in since the 1980s, but it really wasn't till Haruhi that the industry went full retard past the point of no return.
