It was a great chapter overall.
The fight is finally done, with every gundam doing a part of the work.
However I don't get exactly if current Mitsuru's haircut is definitive (which would mean that they decided to change the artstyle compared with the anime) or it is subject to change.

And Hiro's transformation happens far more earlier than the canon story so I'm definitely looking forward for the rest, since Zero Tsu haven't went utterly into madwoman mode yet.

Other times we've seen this trope of naked lovers flying to each other, they embrace more like lovers than a mother embracing their child. It doesn't help that Mitsuru is depicted more childish and meek and coddled here compared to when he took a punch and showed actual resolve for five minutes. The haircut scene also lacks the intimacy that is usually present in the good examples of the trope, and comes off more like a mom giving her child a haircut despite confessing he likes her. We'll just have agree to disagree on it.

I didn’t get the mother/child vibe you were talking about, more of Mitsuru finally opening up to someone, specifically Kokoro despite his initial misgiving about getting hurt or betrayed again. It’s a tentative trust since he’d been guarded too long. So an over the top passionate embrace isn’t something I expected from him.
I don’t think the haircut scene is over, not until we see his ‘new’ one. Then again Yabuki could just skip their first kiss until later chapters.

Its the lack of tension and drive from Mitsuru that feeds the impression. Opening up to someone after years of trust issues isnt this safe and sanitized: you talk, you're defensive while still attempting to open up, you actually make an effort to communicate and push foward, theres a lot of back and forth that's missing thats the backbone of developing relationships like this. A good example of what im getting at would be when Chidori gave Sasuke a haircut in the second raid.

It feels like Yabuki doesn’t really care about Darling in the Franxx’s main cast but enjoys drawing them. He’s likely leaving room for the villains, specifically Papa, 001, and possibly Virm. Why? In the anime’s second half, the material overlooks these villains by shoving in tons of material of squad 13, strangely this is most of the material the manga shoves in and skips over at the first half. Yabuki likely even hates squad 13 and the Nines for their “humanity is so much better” bullshit and their badly written relationships as well because of his experiences with Love-ru and it’s non-human characters or his own original shit.

To those that think this manga will change the ending, I’ll say, “Yes. The ending will be different but not in ways Hiro2 fans want.”

What do I mean by that? Because the only most significant changes are likely cause 001 doesn’t disappear after she makes 02 the new Apus rider and Papa is a independent character from Virm (he’s their pope, look at his dumb outfit, he praises them and they use him), who’s piloting the giant klaxosaur spear during episode 23 (because Nine Alpha looks at the giant spear in episode 20 as if Papa’s riding it). 001 will directly help the humans, provide them the klaxosapien “ship” (without telling them it’s a bomb), get confused and horrified of 02’s episode 22 state until Hiro figures it out, quickly drag out Hiro and 02’s body in the episode 22 flashback (when the Apus goes berserk - forcefully kicking them out), be the one responsible for repurposing the Franxxs and klaxosaurs as environment fuels, and the one who convinces everyone to form a circle around the 02 statue - harmonizing with true Apus. The weird mind connection scene in episode 23 is actually meant for Papa and 001 when shit clashes against eachother and they figure out each other’s identities, thanks to 02 and the picture book shenanigans, they close up their issues against each-other, hug it out, but 02 and Hiro cucks them out from suiciding in space. Then, they return to earth. Everything is the same in episode 24 except they are taking Nana’s and Hachi’s roles.

The ending would be the same. There’s really no reason for Yabuki to change it, he’s an Ichigo fag. As long as she’s safe and living a fulfilled life, hir02 can explode in space again. 02 wanted to become a human so bad she’ll get it through reincarnation. She has never embraced her dino side in the show and no sign of changing that attitude in the manga. She’ll die again to be a real human.

Hell, read my post above. It explained why episodes 22, 23, and 24 it was so bizarre and unexplored. I thought that bringing back the beast princess and the prince back to their appropriate places could save Hiro and 02 until I too thought, “what if it was the same.” Suddenly my mind exploded when I remembered the weird Klaxosaur behavior in those final episodes, which proved that 001 was supposed to be here and do that. Finally, I recalled the forced Hachi and Nana bullshit in episode 23 and 24. Immediately, I knew they had different characters in those roles and I knew there was a couple who made way more sense as practical rulers and as a loving couple.

One more thing, this drawing in pic-related could have been only done by one character after 02, 001, as her clones drew in this unique art style, and unlike 02, she would have the memories of this ancient setting, still be alive, but still be the appropriate person that draw this page (as it’s actually her backstory). Since this page implied that the beast and prince somehow came back together, that means her darling/husband was still alive and they came back together. The only logical person he could be was Papa, and like 001, he also had a ton of hints of having a medieval background and a royal background.

Therefore, Hiro2 will get fucked over.

The picture book was about the prince and the beast nothing about Jian so anyone reading it in the future will not understand what the heck was its message. One page before it was the beast saying goodbye to her sleeping prince, the next it’s a Jian Bird. Can you imagine the confused faces of future generations? Without 02 or Hiro to explain the significance of that book, its meaning is lost.
I mean, does anyone from p13 even know that hir02 met as kids? Also 02 or Ichigo should have recolored the hair from blonde to pink. The future will think 02 is blonde not pink haired because of that damned book, especially if that’s what they used to tell the story of hir02.

The picture book was only related to Hiro and 02 because they read a book made from a failed 001 clone. This clone tapped into the memories of 001 (she had unique memory powers) and made a book based on it. So when episode 16 revealed 001 after 02 lightly touched upon the book again, it was foreshadowing 001’s identity as the beast princess. But you know, they scrapped the plotline (maybe because of time issues).
