In the episode where they show the flasback of Sasuke running through the village with all those massacred Uchiha clan people, they edited every single dead person out as well as any trace of blood. They also changed the dialogue to make absolute 0 sense and omit any indication of violence happening. It's basically 5 minutes of Sasuke running through an empty village to then confront Itachi and blame him for doing "SOMETHING". When I first saw it on television as a teenager, I had no fucking idea what this whole thing was about.

I think it's more 4kids playing it safe rather than lower standards in general, except when it comes to sexuality. I don't think any other dubbing company censored to the extent they did, similarly few other companies targeted such young viewers on blocks specifically for young viewers with sponsers and advertisers that tailored products for these viewers.
4kids didn't even want One Piece, they wanted actual children's shows that didn't need this much censorship. One Piece was butchered this badly because it had to fit their standards.

There's an arc where they run into a whale that was abandoned by a pirate crew it was friends with. Much later on, the sole survivor of that crew joins the main characters so he can meet the whale again one day.

4kids skipped the entire whale arc by turning the whale into an iceberg that they casually destroyed with their cannon before moving on.

My point is that 4kids' censorship is more a result of sponsor/block standards and fears that comes from aiming at young impressionable kids than cultural stigma against children watching cartoon violence.

His actual name is Kuririn. Kuri (chestnut) + shaolin. Kuririn was a Shaolin monk. Toriyama gave food-based pun names to the majority of the main cast. This explains why Kuririn's daughter and filler girlfriend were named Marron and Maron, respectively, (both derived from the French word for chestnut). In both cases, the dub pronounces the name incorrectly.

"Krillin" skips over that food-based pun as well as his connection with his daughter (Toriyama usually gives names to kids based on the name theme for at least one of their parents.)

I don't think there are any recent examples, at least from America, since the way anime is localized and distributed has changed drastically thanks to the internet. The days of hilarious anime censorship are gone along with Saturday Morning Cartoons.

To be fair, 4Kids dubs and awful localization is a part of the fandom now. It's also very nostalgic no different than people remembering 80s and 90s western cartoons, especially as time went on and standards changed and we can watch that shit whenever we want now, heck, we can even watch the original AND edited version.

Also, I think One Piece is special because not only is it the biggest "What the fuck were you thinking licensing this 4Kids" but there was a giant fan campaign to get it out of the hands of 4Kids for a few years so it's part of anime history.
