It's not weak it's brittle. When you make steel harder you necessarily make it more brittle. You can play with the metallurgy to change how much you need to rob Peter to pay Paul but you can't erase that relationship.

Hold over from JRPGs and their Wizardry lineage, where the Samurai and Ninja are associated with raw offense and "exoticism" compared to the more balanced western counterparts. The original Wizardry games themselves were made by white guys who were really into Japanese culture and bought into the big deadly ninja craze of the 80s as were most tabletop RPG creators before them, so this was flattering to Japanese players.

Saw the latest episode of Mom Isekai today, I thought they were supposed to be in a standard medieval Europe fantasy world but they started talking about how they were able to buy miso and seaweed at the market to have for breakfast and it threw me for a second

Katanas were perfectly good weapons. They were good at cutting, which came at the expense of weight and reach. But they were undeniably good weapons, just like rapiers, longswords, pata, shamshirs, and all sorts of other swords.

I'd be able to crank out a black powder rifle fairly easily, along with black powder and balls, but that's only because I'm a gun nut, and not many Japanese teenagers are that.

Its also true of most martial arts: If you can do something as basic as denying your opponent the ability to move their foot forward by placing your foot there and pushing, you now control the movement of your opponent.
If you on top of that have experience, you also get to keep your mobility and ability to learn in all directions, while your opponent can't learn forward or to the sides properly.

What is hillarious about The Sacred Blacksmith is that instead of describing Luke or his magic as Superhuman, they just describe basic fencing footwork. The kind you learn after just a few weeks of HEMA, Kendo or sports fencing.

Bullets use stored energy, while crossbows use need to add energy.

Have you ever played an MMO? Are you retarded? Speaking just from Wow, no, a DPS cannot set the pace like a tank. If they do then they literally fuck everything up due to aggro mechanics. In a raid a tank is usually the leader because they are the ones who have to pull the boss and organize position. A tank is all about positioning and management and also environmental awareness. The reason why tanks always get groups quickly is because they are valuable but no one plays them because they are difficult.

I see your point, but habits from other cultures can be adopted, so it's not so out there. I'd see this as a problem maybe if we were dealing with mindless monsters.
