Baba Yaga is so kino it makes me re-read the whole manga. I think that after that section it began to lean more heavily into Soul Eater(the manga)'s concept of insanity and that makes the later chapters kind of abstract. Chrona v Medusa being a great example. The first time I read it I was disappointed to lose such a great character but it seems really fitting now.

It drags out a single conflict for years after barely building most of it up, relies heavily on power levels and fancy effects instead of creative choreography or ideas, the whole arc fucks up a ton of the few good lingering ideas utterly (Crona kills Medusa off in a way where it's not clear if it was planned or not but doesn't actually really change as a character despite the psychotic break, the series-long Maka/Spirit tension is dropped just to make a point about the importance of FAAAAMILY when the interesting part of their relationship was that it would take a long time for them to actually heal, several actually kind of interesting subplots about the witch realm and Free and Noah and shit dropped like hot potatoes), it's a big mess. And the resolution of the story is...Soul gets to go be important and Maka is happy, maybe one day they'll go save Crona, "lolboobies." It's even worse than the Bones ending.

But it hardly just band-aids it. Maka and Spirit can match wavelengths despite Crona disrupting every one elses. It's not a matter of "we're so close and fixed now" it's more like "Crona doesn't understand that parent-child bond at all and can't disrupt it because she killed Medusa." Even in the ending when Spirit is revealed to have survived it's back to business as usual when Maka jumps for Marie instead of Spirit.
