That would require for actually intelligent people to dislike it, which they don't. The only people who shilled against Phantom World were very desperate KusoAnus drones who couldn't cope with the reality of their favourite shovelware studio wasting their time on a battle highschool harem show. For some reason they considered themselves to be above it, don't ask me why. Likely because they genuinely consider Hyouka and VEG to be seriuos drama/art.

Evergarden is arguably the greatest piece of art to ever grace this medium.

I liked it. I really don't get why people outright hated it. It has some of the best animation KyoAni has done since Hyouka.

Sort of, it was definitely amazing but it had the wrong target audience
Kyoani isn't known for ecchi harem series so it wasn't well received because people weren't expecting that
And it also didn't go far enough with the ecchi, it could have set a new standard for the genre, still it was loads of fun

Definitely, easily one of the best thigns Kyoani made in the last 5 years.

With Hibike, Kyoani distilled their fanbase into yuri lovers and drama fags and people were PISSED it wasn't of that

The only way to "validate" your opinion on something you think is perfect is having a negative opinion about it, in this case, Kyoani. People simply took advantage of some youtubers doing this and "shared" their same opinions, Phantom World was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and got the bullet.

Not a masterpiece but underrated

It was quite okay.

It's just that the KyoAni fanbase mostly consists of fujoshits and normalfags who don't actually like anime.

I know it's a template thread but something doesn't have to be a masterpiece in order to be good. Sometimes good is just enough and it definitely was in this particular case. More specifically, the coloring and storyboarding were both extraordinarily good. Especially the cat mansion, fantasy world and theater episodes stood out.
Personally, I think the show should have focused even more on different weekly adventures instead of the Enigma thing and thus complete its episodic cycle but it still worked reasonably well.

It was probably some of the weakest source material KyoAni has adapted, but the execution is still great. I'm disappointed it got proper boob animation while Amaburi didn't though
