Solid ep but I'm slightly disappointed with the music choices for the flashback and the general tone.

Maybe it was just my perception while reading the manga, but Senku's flashback (specifically the part with them launching the rocket) always came off to me as more dramatic to demonstrate the trio's camaraderie and Senku's success, but the music and sense of timing made it feel very whimsical throughout without invoking any particular emotion. Again, it might just be me.

He's no that amazing of a protagonist, and Taiju is definitely more interesting despite being the muscle-headed simpleton of the group.

I kept up with the manga for years, reading 1 chapter a week. The anime is 2-3 chapters per ep. I always felt that the manga despite switching tones did it elegantly and not forced at all.

A foil is a contrasting character, not necessarily an antagonist. Chrome's resourcefulness without the backing of thousands of years of scientific development and Gen's people skills are a good contrast to Senku the giga-autist.

He stepped out at the end of the prologue because he basically served his purpose and I was fine with that - but I think he did get some really lovely moments when he came back, so I was happy.

It is, all this now is prologue, then official stone world happens, then stone wars where we're most likely getting an end.
The aftermath is the epilogue of prologue which should be squeezed in next ep. Then the start of stone world talks about how Senkuu survived alone for 6 months plus how he tried to figure the depetrification out and free his buddy.

Taiju doesn't want to force Yuzuriha into an "Adam and Eve" scenario, where they need to repopulate to survive. With Senku around and the possibility of reviving everyone and civilization still on the table, Taiju wants to wait to make it an ordinary confession with no obligatory pressure on her to say yes beyond her own plain desire.

For what it's worth she's already mentally said yes, but agreed to the terms too.

Confessing under the distressing circumstance regardless would sour it in the face of absolute possible victory. There's still the need to defeat Tsukasa and do important things, and both of them know their roles.

Plus it'll be a good parallel when the series opened with Taiju trying to confess, and one of the ending scenes will be Taiju finishing that confession, with Yuzuriha accepting. A good set of book ends.

To be fair user, it's been 3700 years and their tribe was an offshoot of like 6 people. There has assuredly been rampant inbreeding over the course of those 3700 years so the fact they are bug eyed monsters makes sense. In the novel Last and First Men a similar thing happens, the world ends and the only survivors are 36 people on an Arctic voyage. They break away into two tribes (one tribe choosing to stay on the boat and the other choosing to see if the mainland is safe) and over the course of thousands of years their populations dip and rise as genetic disorders and disease run rampant due to the genetic bottleneck. Eventually one tribe evolves into giant blue people with big heads and vast intelligence and the other evolves into a tribe of grotesque baboon people.

I'll explain it tovyou. Genetic diversity, the astronauts were handpicked from different continents, if that wasn't enough, to become an astronaut peak health is required. The way mutations occur is when both parents share a "weak" gene. Example, if both your parents had poor eyesight, you would have a high chance of poor eyesight. And if that isn't enough the story was approved by their science advisors where Inagaki checked for realibility.

I've been fine with Senku from the start. His character design is silly and he's overdramatic, but I never had a problem with that because it's anime.

Just a reminder that when that paper was first published (2001), there was little understanding of the epigenetic basis of phenotype expression and those numbers do not take that into account at all.
