When we first got to know Prez and Kaguya, they were already President and Vice. They had already changed a lot. Kaguya assumed her old persona from before we got to know her, for just a few chapters, and people were complaining about what a massive fucking bitch she was and how she ruined everything.

Princess Kaguya sees through it immediately, and Ishitsukuri just throws away the fake bowl afterward, symbolically discarding his shame, and makes excuses for it in what's apparently supposed to be quite good poetry.

Though he never tries to find the real bowl, he doesn't give up on trying to woo Kaguya either and shamelessly continues to make advances on her. At least, I believe that's one version of the story. I think throwing away the bowl even became a saying for acting shameless.

With Iino Miko, it's hard to tell which parts would be incorporated. For all we know, by the end of her Arc, it's not even going to matter if Ishigami rejects her, because she's just going to try to wear him down with repeated confessions that are each more embarrassing than the last and make a total ass of herself.

Chika has been with us for longer, but Miko's still somehow managed to develop more. It's not about how long a character has been in the manga, it's about who is prioritized for a character arc.

Miko's current arc is fundamentally rooted in a love triangle that can't exist without Ishigami outpacing her in character development. If this was Aka's intent from the start, then things pretty much had to be this way. Miko has to play catch up, with a fairly massive handicap, or else she's not got a chance in hell.

How much has Miko actually contributed to Ishigami's arc? How has Miko not been comic relief for most of her existence? Can we even say she's part of the main cast? Miko's often almost completely absent for various stories. She didn't even get to be brainwashed by the same shoujo manga that literally everyone else read. Which is probably for the best, since it'd mindbreak her, but still.

I don't follow the current discourse of these threads but I'd say her worst crime is being underutilized until recently more than anything. I do think Aka had no idea what to do with her when he first added her into the main cast which is why nothing really notable happened outside of establishment chapters until the bonfire.

It is a problem yeah but it's gotten better since then imo.

I kind of feel like Aka knew what he wanted to use Miko for, but had no real idea what to do with her before the plot reached that stage. Most of her appearances just establish one character quirk or another, rather than developing her or her relationships much. I guess she no longer sees the Student Council as a bunch of degenerate perverts. That's been Miko's character development.

Nah I wouldn't necessarily say that, those chapters all establish quirks yes but I do think they all add to her character(glutton aside) and explain what her big "problem" is pretty well. The impression I get is in that span of the manga between her introduction and the sports festival he wanted to do what he did with Ishigami and slowly integrate her into the cast while focusing on other stuff, and she got lost in the shuffle until the 90s onwards. She only started getting some good attention after that point which then got interrupted when the manga turned into the Prez/Kaguya show for 40 chapters.

Like I said the problem is her being underutilized imo, personally I'd say it's less that her character is bad as much as it's been badly paced as a result of her getting nothing for so long after she was introduced. It's happening now though so I'm relatively fine with where she's at, more has to happen concerning her relationships with other characters besides Ishigami of course but ya gotta start somewhere.

Been using the first one for a bit, it's good, if only because I don't have to go to JB's shit website to read anymore.

Yes. Aka had to establish that Miko isn't the underdog hero it was joked she sounded like in her introduction.
The gag chapters established that she needs to change, that her behaviour is detrimental to -herself-, not just others, and would be even in an ideal world.
If she'd had her character arc right after the election, it would've come off as Aka saying that lack of popularity was her only problem, that she had to conform for the sake of conformity. If it had happened before the fetish chapter, it would've seemed like Miko is truly a non-hypocritical, misguided crusader- more selfless than she actually is. If it had happened before the shed chapter, or the flower story, that would've undermined his point that Miko needs other people and is irrationally fearful as she is now.
Aka had to remove any doubt that Miko's problems are external or irrelevant. -She- needs to change, she will be happier once she has changed, and that must be established for her arc to have the proper cathartic impact.

As I've been saying, the love triangle was intentional. There's focus on Miko trying to cheer him on, and managing only a whisper. There's this whole scene where she's building up the nerve to go to him, but gets cockblocked out of a moment that would likely have improved things between them. The next IshiMiko chapter I recall basically shows how much Ishigami has changed since then, how well he's fitting in with the normies and going with their flow, but Miko's been left behind. They're more distant than ever, really.

Miko already missed her shot, or had it taken from her. She's fallen behind, and there's no real way for her to catch up or overtake Tsubame.
