Yugioh is relatively old among card games, and more importantly, it had the constrain of being adapted from the manga card game. Kaz never intended for the game to be playable, only for it to be the focus of two chapter. Even after it became the focus of the manga, the rules were mostly based around the drama of the story rather than internal consistency or balance.
Konami chose to adapt the game as faithfully as possible (as opposed to Bandai before them), and that meant not a lot of thought went into the long term viability of the gameplay. They probably didn't expect it to be as much of a hit as it is, so the game lacks things that are basic for other tcgs, like keywords and a resource system. All of the modern problems with the game can be traced back to design flaws that make evident that the game was not meant to last long.

That card is totally useless.
It's not a counter trap, so it activates with standard trap speed (2), so you can't use it to negate the activation of a counter trap card (speed 3), as the card would already have resolved and entered the graveyard before you can respond to it - you can only counter with the same speed or faster.

But the original incarnation seemed at least playable. Trying to reinvent the game over and over again to the point where cards have walls of text is what make it so unappealing to me now. I mean I remember when the first promotional god cards came out, they were unplayable because they just had a brief flavor text. Because describing what each card does would end up being a wall of text and they thought that it just wouldn't work. Now normal cards have probably a bigger wall of text than the god cards reprints with their actual functions printed on the cards.

I think I was about 11 or 12 years old and there was a local yugioh scene in my town, and I was so obsessed with Yu-Gi-Oh as well. Arc-V era was the most fun for me in terms of card design. Every Summoning style got equal amounts support, and Pendulums didn't take the spotlight until the very end. There is no need for it since they can just print continuous/lingering effects to negate Counter Traps. Fabled Unicore, World Legacy Key and Infinite Impermanence are examples of such effects.
There aren't any, although the Counter Angels have effects that resolve in the middle of a Chain after Counter Traps resolve.
