Complete Dirty Pair Blu Ray box set coming out this December in Japan...
About time.
It’ll never come to America
Hell fucking yes.
>$500
Suck my cock nigger and put out Project Eden separately
This.
Fuck yeah, that's awesome. I knew it was a matter of time, eventually, since they did all those remastered DVD for everything. Project EDEN is gonna benefit the most, but the various OVAs can be gorgeous too like Flight 009.
I watched the preview and then was rudely reminded of that one time they made up entirely anime original characters instead of just recasting Kei.
You're right. Rightstuf got a lot the Dirty Pair stuff a couple years back, but they'll never stretch for BD.
I already have them torrented (or on DVD from Amazon), but that's neat.
Not unless you import it.
>I just finished this last week
God FUCKING damnit.
At least then you can ignore that trash instead of falling for the bait.
You can always rewatch the movie.
>AND Flash.
Fucking A. They went all in.
Why not? It'd be like making a BGC box set and not including all of those bad spinoffs and sequels. You might as well for the sake of completion.
>remastered for the second time
>still will never get the original version of the movie without the widescreen crop
Sigh
As far as I know only the original OVA of BGC has a BD.
As it should.
I know, but the point is a be-all end-all box would include AD Police, Parasite Dolls, Crash, and the TV series.
I would pay out the dick for that.
What's the point of Blu-ray for a show that was made 30+ years ago to air in SD?
Airing in SD is irrelevant if it was shot on film. Film, even 16mm, has a much higher resolution that SD. And the OVAs and movies would have been 35mm.
It's relevant because when something is planned to air in SD, less care was likely taken than if it were intended for the cinema or HD. As such, HD remasters can expose defects that weren't noticeable in SD, and hence actually end up looking worse than a good SD transfer.
And yes, I know Project EDEN (the only theatrical film) would have been 35mm (not so sure about the various OVAs, but I'll take your word for it), which is why I said "show" (meaning TV).
Dirty Pair is what, the 100th something 80s TV anime we've seen get a BD remaster? The nth Sunrise series? We already know what to expect: dust, tears, imperfections in painting, animator mistakes. Almost none of that is a big deal and most dust can be automatically removed by processes these days. I'd say DP has less a chance of coming out worse for wear on BD than SDF Macross.
I hope so. I'm just not sure it's going to offer me much reason to upgrade from my existing DVDs, especially when upscaling from 480p works so well for anime.
Personally, if I already have a series on DVD, and it's pre-2004 or so, it's a low-priority for upgrade.
Why are you so sure? Tons of older anime are coming out on BD in America these days.
They release plenty of blurays.
What? Anything 2001 and earlier should be prime for a remaster since it's on film. And they definitely started giving a shit once the money rolled in, look at Escaflowne.
>prime for a remaster since it's on film.
True.
Maybe it's because my experience with supposedly remastered DVD releases (*cough*Gundam*cough*) has not been great. It's also entirely possible that I haven't thought this through completely.
Mostly it's just that I only have so much budget, and it hurts to have to double dip. Most of the cases where I have upgraded have been for things like Clannad which were made in the HDTV era but were initially only released on DVD in the U.S.
But yeah, at the very least Project EDEN in HD is something I would want. Not gonna pay Japanese prices for it, though. Hopefully we will get it eventually.
Fucking finally.
just posting to say thanks for reminding me to save the dirty pair doujin
