I always hear that people said the author ruined the other girls to make Houki look better, is this true or people just overthink this?

He got pissed people didn’t like his perfect waifu and purposely wrote the other characters worse as in attempt to make her more liked. It backfired and killed the series

well for one thing he made Charlotte as vindictive and violent towards Ichika as the rest of the girls, when it was the fact that she wasn't, compared to the others (especially Houki), that made fans like her so much

It's true. The author is a petty asshole who got assblasted since no one liked Hoki. In the later volumes, he upped everyone's violent side while trying to prop up Ichika's relationship with Hoki. He supposedly got better about it in the last few volumes but lack of translations really killed most of the hype over here.

I think at one point in one of the later volumes (9 maybe?), Ichika makes a remark about status quo and not choosing any one girl in particular because it means he'd have to deal with all of them at the same time. Char or otherwise they gonna be jealous no matter if he chooses any of the girls or Chifuyu.

Final volume should be a hot mess, the later volumes did have more going on in terms of story, but if this is gonna be the last one, there's a lot to tie up story-wise.

I liked houki... She worked well as the main girl. But main girls are never the audience's choice for best girl.

I mean to be fair, dude has a point. And if the series was better written, it'd acknowledge that with their positions in society, these people are essentially child celebrities, and Ichika is supposed to be the representative of a gender that lost almost all of its social clout within the span of a few years. Essentially billions of second-class citizens. The media should be hounding over Ichika's every move, and the country the girl he chooses is from would probably put unimaginable pressure on both of them to start popping out IS pilot babies in order to gain more power.

That's a horrific position to be in, especially for a guy who seems like he's hardly interacted with girls at all in his childhood (since he has no idea how they function), and who likely has absolutely no experience with media or politics whatsoever. Honestly, realistically, if a person was raised the way he has (with no real father figure and an almost too aloof big sister) they'd probably end up with some kind of developmental or personality disorder.

For this series in particular, it's easy to say as a guy that hey, we'd love to be in Ichika's position and we would fuck every girl or be some total Chad, but there are so many dire consequences that could result from that which the series never explores. If he chooses at all, he could very well ruin his school life and his life in Japan in one fell swoop.

Besides, we don't even know anything about Ichika anyway. He doesn't even seem to have his own (independent of his sister) dreams and goals. If he didn't want to be an IS pilot and if being a pilot would stop him from achieving his dreams, it doesn't matter if the place is filled with cute girls (who are probably completely alien to him culturally, in terms of class, and in terms of personality), anyone would be fucking miserable

Oh I agree, it's why LN Ichika is more based than anime Ichika. More awareness on his part, but at the same time a way to keep the status quo till it's time to make a choice/no choice.

Not only would it be a tough position to be in for the near and long term, but the girls themselves all have issues or baggage in their past. It's probably why they all latch on so strongly to him, in simple terms they all had some circumstance or another uproot them and plop them into some academy with a bunch of other girls from around the world, and one dude. Him being nice to all of them doomed him to being in the middle of it all.

Houki is the best fit for him storywise with them having a common past and some family element with Chifuyu/Tabane. All he has to do is wear a suit in front of her or compliment her looks to make her tsun shut down.

yeah definitely, IS is kind of strange in that pretty much all of its star characters at least have the foundation for the exploration of a ton of different mental and developmental issues from people of all walks of life and culture, and on paper, seeing all of them interact and clash perspectives in one place would make for a very interesting and strong character study, if done right, of course. Then you have all the robot mech stuff too.

Tbh I never cared about who he got with. I mean I enjoyed the harem hijinks and seeing him flounder in a completely alien environment (the first episode/novel was so much fun for me), but I just can't get past the fact that relationships between people of that stature are so ephemeral, plus, they're teenagers, so that compounds the issue. I wanted to see them at least confront their own issues first or at least have a little bit of introspection as to why they're doing and feeling the things they do (which they should theoretically be able to do since they're all apparently quite intelligent)

oh, the the English release of light novels is up to the part involving the World Purge events in which thats were they stopped at with the ova from Infinite Stratos II. Now we just have to wait for the addition volumes to finally know whats taking place.

Volume 9 and up. I've been waiting for a long time foe the translations to catch up.
