Elves have longer lives, they're more nimble, they're better at magic, they're super intelligent, and yet still they get fucking destroyed by humans in every reality they exist in.

Fantasy writers are retards and humans just always have to be the top dogs for easy self-insertion. Secondly most often elves were at the top for thousands of years, until SOMETHING happened and humans begun to squad in their ruins. Bonus points for elf civilization still being better after the fall.
Now western fantasy will more likeliy give good explanations, while in japanese fantasy elves are just there.
