it doesn't need one.

No manga 'needs' one, but it'd be nice to have one.

I have a feeling Netflix is going to adapt Punpun. I really hope I'm wrong tho. Screencap this just in case.

Is it bad if I skipped a few chapters because I didn't give a fuck about the countless women this guy dated? Like I honestly just didn't give a damn about Nanjou.

I just wanted Aiko shenanigans.

Yes, it is bad
you dumb tumblr browsing cock slurping bitch.

Attached: 69.jpg (951x1075, 674K)

Because of the sexual and mature themes you fucking retard. Also definitely would have flopped.
Good Vibrations was the only thing I couldn't stomach. It was just so terrible.

why?

no adaptation would ever properly convey the amount of despair in this series propely

Asano girls are fuck ugly. At least, these are.
>tumblr
Apparently, it's their favorite manga. What does that say about Punpun fans?

>What does that say about Punpun fans?
It says they are dumb tumblr browsing cock slurping bitches. The manga is good tho.

it wasn't

its not appropriate for tv... at all

which one of them will be the nigger?

There have been plenty of anime with sex themes. They can just censor the sex. It's not like it occurred that often.

Is boring AF, literally all that matters could be resumed into an one hour episode

>Slice of life/Coming of age is boring
If you thought it was boring then you had no business reading a SoL manga. It could definitely be condensed into 12 episodes though.

I don't know how popular it was in absolute terms. In the same way that Tao Lin was all the rage on Yea Forums and tumblr in 2010 but was not especially commercially successful, I don't know how profitable a Pun Pun anime would be.

But tbf I'm not completely sure about that. What I can say is I don't think it would translate into an anime super well. Part of it's appeal is the suspension of disbelief, and the way you're sort or de-familiarized from Pun Pun by his strange forms. By making that moving and embodied by a consistent voice, that would in some way be damaged, and seem very cartoon-ish. The manga is impressive in how it uses a device that is clearly irreverent and yet manages not to seem too flippant or ironic at any point. Maybe there's a way to translate that into an anime, but I can't think of one, and if there were one then it would take a very talented director and would probably not be served very well by the hypothetical show's inevitably low budget.

kinda what I mean, just focuss on his relation with aiko and their scape, which is very short lived, that's all it is remembered for

Honestly I hated it. Not because it was sad/depressing, but because Punpun was too much of a Chad for me. Completely unrelatable. He never had any trouble getting women, and only kept fucking over Aiko because he was psychopathic and didn't know what the fuck he wanted in life.

Dude literally had 5 cute girls he could've fucked everyday. Fuck that

The moment PunPun's life begins it's downward spiral would never get aired.

He didn't come that much as chad to me but as a rather overt self-insert

The only chapters worth skipping are those about "God" and the two gay childhood friends.

Fucking stupid shit.

By Chad I mean he didn't have trouble finding women. The manga keeps preaching about loneliness but he always had someone. He was just shitty because he didn't have his precious Aiko so he treated all the other women that cared about him like shit.

I think you are meant to think he's a dick

I feel you. I think it's a big part of the series that he's supposed to be a piece of shit, and the nuance and depth there is to his through-and-through shittiness—where it comes from, how it fits in with the rest of his sadness and other characters sadness, how his actions impact others and the shitty ways he reacts. But I can totally see how someone who can't relate to his way of being lonely could not enjoy the series.

Yes. It felt like reading the back story of all the girls he was involved with was a waste of time, because we as the audience knew he didn't really care for them. They were just filler.

Remember how Aku no Hana adaptation turned out?

Excellent, with a pleb filter artstyle?

I actually really enjoyed it. Some people just can't appreciate alternative art styles. I wish they removed the motion capture dots from their face though.

Attached: Aku-no-Hana-GQCA.png (675x350, 92K)

It had some of the best Yea Forums threads

Attached: odeSj.png (1366x768, 504K)

Would you recommend the manga?

Yes. Aku no Hana is similar to Punpun in some aspects but also very different. The first half in particular is extremely mesmerizing.

manga's good until the mains grow up, then it just ditches the original idea and is VERY bland. Extra chapter is just there to explain the point of the manga

Yuasa could do it, but I can't see any other director pulling it off and I don't know if he'd have any interest.

>then it just ditches the original idea and is VERY bland
I'm sorry user, but the second half is what the manga is actually about, with the first half serves as build up to it.

Attached: x31.png (896x1300, 285K)

this, fuck the other user in the ass

Which one has a better chance for anime adaptation; this or Dead Dead Demon's De De De De Destruction?

>Dude literally had 5 cute girls he could've fucked everyday. Fuck that
Kind of glad I avoided PunPun up until this point now that I know this

how so? how do you feel about the second half?

Really? It really doesn't seem like Yuasa's style to me. I feel like I see most of its elements across his body of work but never clustered together. Closest thing is probably Kaiba, but even then the reason it feels like a Yuasa work is because the desolation and the sadness of the world are contrasted by its sheer beauty and surrealism.

But maybe you're right. He has a knack for branching out while still being the same good Yuasa, and I'd love to see what kind of spin he puts on it.

the latter by far

Can you fuck off already tumblr? and stop forcing us discussing it?

I don't know what the other user was talking about. Punpun is taken advantaged by damaged women who just wants an outlet for their frustration. When he goes on an actual date he fails miserably for being a loser who doesn't know how to interact with girls outside of sex
At the first glance, the first half is exciting and exhilarating while the second half is boring and bland. But that's the point. Unlike Nakamura, Kasuga is an utterly normal guy, or a "shiteater". He might be a pretentious nerd, but he is just as shallow as the friends he looks down on in middle school. As he admits later, he really doesn't understand Baudelaire, and he doesn't understand Nakamura. That's the reason she pushes him down when he is trying to set himself on fire. The second part of the manga is about Kasuga coming to term with himself and his past. He has to accept that he will never reach "the other side", and he will remain a "shiteater", and that's OK.

Attached: x29.png (898x1300, 317K)

>When he goes on an actual date he fails miserably for being a loser who doesn't know how to interact with girls outside of sex
That's still WELL past my knowledge on how to interact with women

It's impossible. How would they include the narrator, Punpun's "voice" (never showed in speech bubbles) or "God's dialogues"? Would they animate completly the Punyama family or would they do still images of them with dialogue on the back? Take chapter 99 for example, it has a lot of narration worth a page of text that doesn't come from Punpun's head but from a sort of novelistic voice.
At some points he's drawn as a pyramid. They could do away with all of that and do a sort of job similar to that of Aku no Hana but Yea Forums wouldn't like it

>When he goes on an actual date he fails miserably for being a loser who doesn't know how to interact with girls outside of sex
That's because he literally doesn't give a shit about them outside of sex.

The important thing is he has to stop being a "ghost" like he has been since that incident. He has to reclaim his life that was lost in the vortex of emotions back then. In the beginning, Sakuga is merely a victim of circumstances and a weak willed guy who just go with the flow. He bends to Nakamura's nonsensical whim, and later enthralls himself to her suicidal impulse. In the second half, after a long period of time living as a soulless husk, he finally acts on his own free will. Confessing to Tokiwa, reconnecting with his parents, returning to his hometown, looking for Nakamura are all parts of his deliberate attempts to free himself from "the Flower of Evil". His journey here, quite not thrilling as what he did in the first half, is much more meaningful and takes real courage to do.
At the end, he becomes a normalfag, a "shiteater" but that's how he should be. There is no "this side" or "other side". Only reality.

Attached: x30.png (900x1300, 177K)

I fucking remember it, so I it aged well. Had a few great scenes and ed was great too. Even though red hair was ugly, it kinda fit the situation.

It's not an exact match, but Yuasa's style is the most similar of any anime director I can think of. Mind Game even has a portrayal of God that's similar to the one in Punpun youtube.com/watch?v=GTSHOayOyi8

It can't be adaptable for the masses, it's not enjoyable for the normal consumer... maybe DDDDD could be more acceptable starting from the history.

Aku No Hana shits the bed massively after the first arc. It's like a completely different manga. Punpun stays consistent throughout in its style and themes.

A TV show that makes its viewers kill themselves has pretty bad retention rates.

Welcome to NHK was depressing and it's pretty much regarded as one of the best SoL anime. Still sticks with me to this day

Outside this and Welcome to the NHK. I've never felt so emotionally drained from reading or watching anything. I felt so empty after finishing both and just completely lost. Not that usual lost feeling that people get when finishing things they enjoy. Was like a constant feeling in my gut. Those images of Aiko Haunted me for days after. I would relive those last view chapters in my mind and have them flash in and make me so depressed.

You're giving him too much credit. He literally gets shut down in the first date because he can't think of a decent thing to say. He's a loser in every sense of the word.

Attached: p17.png (915x1300, 367K)

Thank you, it's been some years since I've read it and this take makes a lot more sense than what I thought the manga was going for

I'm not saying he's good with women, I'm saying he's still miles ahead of my position, I've never even spoken to a woman outside of gradeschool.
I can't relate to his character whatsoever, in fact I'm jealous of the positions he finds himself in, no matter how badly he fucks it up, because at least he has had a chance to squander and this is why I can't bring myself to read Punpun.

>>r9k

>You're giving him too much credit
Tons of girls pursued him, which is something most guys can't say they relate to.

Attached: 14.jpg (728x1016, 87K)

>Asano girls are fuck ugly
Is because he draws them too realistically, with imperfections etc. Maybe you just need to go out more.

I didn't find them ugly at all

Attached: 20.jpg (728x1029, 157K)

He's literally crying in that page, user

Yeah, from pleasure.

That's just because he hates himself for fucking his Uncle's GF instead of Aiko. Doesn't change the fact he's an attractive guy that has no problem getting attention.

His uncle never finds out as well

And blame

He's getting raped in this page you moron.

He either draws them like aliens or monkeys. If you think they look realistic, YOU need to go out more.

He's getting molested what is wrong with you

He does. Midori later confesses to him.
Maybe you need to have your eyes checked

Attached: x16.png (987x1400, 510K)

>raped
>willingly let her fondle him
>didn't say no, just went along with it
>got erect and came
>cuddled afterwards

That's not rape. Rape is forceful sex against someone's will.

Attached: 8.jpg (728x1016, 91K)

Yeah he does. It is kind of fucked how he just accepts that his wife raped his underage nephew though. Although I guess he'd be a hypocrite if he got too rustled about it.

Attached: 2963c574c836bbc917005b4b8782a4faa26dafbf_175953_800_1156.jpg (800x1156, 174K)

Because it's shit

NHK, anime or manga?

manga is apparently more dark(never read it), but I enjoyed the anime. I was a NEET at the time so it hit home hard

>his wife raped his underage nephew though
If a woman comes on to you and you don't do anything to stop it or let her know you dont want it then how is it rape?

ignoring the legal definition of all underage sex being considered rape of course.

The older women look really fucking ugly, I admit. Being middle aged doesn't make you THAT ugly, holy fuck.

Attached: 6.jpg (728x1023, 115K)

Because when you're a child and someone is an adult, it's fucking scary and incredibly hard to speak up.

If you don't think it's rape then whatever, that's just semantics and maybe you think of rape as something different from other people. But the point is that it's a traumatic and non-consensual sexual experience.

Anime.

Nobody likes Punpun other than depressed 20 year old autists or underage social media kids.

Why did she just let her mom beat on her? Couldn't she have just found another place to stay at?

Attached: a.jpg (728x1021, 155K)

It's been suggested a few times that a live action adaptation where the characters and all the elements that wouldn't work in 3D would be drawn in the manga's 2D style(or just punpun himself) would work great.Still have no idea about the narrator or the especcialy disturbing scenes though. So basically a live action film with "cartoon" characters living in the real world.

>notices a thread about something he doesnt like in the catalog
>IM LITERALLY BEING FORCED TO DISCUSS THIS PLEASE HELP
thanks for the bump bro

>So basically a live action film with "cartoon" characters living in the real world.
The only problem is there's no way to condense this into 1 or 2 hours unless they skipped flashbacks & backstories of the side characters.

I can see it working if they just focused on Punpun & Aiko though.

Did you finish reading or are you speed reading. She can't move without her license

I would've just left without saying shit. Fuck giving an abuser a 'proper' send off.

Attached: 4.jpg (728x1029, 212K)

>thanks for the bump
what is sage?

That's the best option for this kind of thing, yeah. You can't really go the koe no katachi route and rush the ending.Ideally 2 or 3 movies would be the best, but I don't think it's really feasible.

What the fuck was Nakamura's problem?

punpun will be the nigger after he kill Aiko mom

It wouldn't work. They'd have a better shot at live-action.

t. Solanin

Wasn't popular, never heard of it.

>Ignoring the fact that it's rape by LAW

I didn't know they had Yea Forums machines under rocks

He obviously didn't want to do it but was guilt tripped into letting her have her way with him, and if it were consensual she would have stopped after he started to cry. He was used by someone he loved and it broke his heart.

Because it's pretty old. It started in 2007 and ended in 2013.

It doesn't stand to benefit at all from being animated.

Nonsense. Hearing the character's voice, seeing their expressions properly animated, the lighting, colors; It'd do the manga wonders.

It'd be incredibly difficult to find animators to emulate the artstyle though.

I don't agree for a series like this at all. It's too photorealistic for anime.

I saw a thread about this 2 days ago and binge read it. Damn what a ride, especially towards the end. Had me on the edge of my seat. Now I'm going to be upset trying to find something that good. When I browse Yea Forums and look at all the anime anons are discussion, it's laughable how uninteresting it is by comparison.

I disagree completely. I can imagine all of those things just fine, and I don't think any studio could do the art justice.

And I especially don't think the series would benefit from being in color.

I've got a different opinion on that desu, but Japan doesn't have any good colourists.

How old was Punpun here? Around 14?

lol whatever crossie, get the fuck off Yea Forums you reek of newshit

>that volume that came out during christmas
jesus, that was awful. right after my first break up too.

Attached: 1563196737915.gif (250x308, 1.88M)

short attention span

>aiko
>not beautiful

Attached: 1530271931178.jpg (480x472, 49K)

If you think about it, this is a manga about a pathetic dude being used by manipulative females twice in a row, one of which is supposedly the good ending. I'm not sure what he learned other than his place

>Dispair
Punpun is a bitch, he said himself, he has all the elements in order to be happy but it isn't because "muh traumas". And insecure weebs dig that

Attached: rrN1XeX.png (454x404, 158K)

What are the elements in order to be happy?

People hate it because the main girl looks fucking ugly, which ruins the whole plot. Only reason someone would ever fall for her is because she's hot.

thats not old

bad luck the manga lmao, this shit is torture porn, nobody normal would watch it.
