What does Yea Forums think of Rising of the Shield Hero?
What does Yea Forums think of Rising of the Shield Hero?
Nothing special but nothing terrible either.
>rising of the fedora hero
I dropped it when it caught up to manga.
Moefumi is a miracle of the universe
Honestly, it’s just really average. The controversy definitely gave it a good push into notoriety, but everything afterwards was just nothing new, so I dropped around the turtle arc
I liked it
>I liked it
?
it's pedo slave shit
sucks, bc i liked a lot of other concepts in the story :(
Im glad his accusers are getting btfo by facts left and right. Will be interesting to see what this does to "me too" afterwards
>:(
>it's pedo slave shit
But that's the best part.
Good start, garbage everything else
Normie trash/10
i'm watching it solely for a friend.
it's mediocre and the definition of isekaishit.
The story was an equivalent of a wet fart.
The last half of the anime was badly paced. The Pope fight lasted too long. The Island Adventure Wave was too rushed.
Introducing new characters in the second to last episode is always a bad idea. Shield Hero is suppose to have trust issues. But the about-face of scythe hero and wench didn't have the same impact as Bitch in the beginning episode. They were obviously conflicted about it.
The Anime hardly gave any attention to the other heroes. You rarely saw how they managed their own parties. They're dumb. But if you only saw the anime, they'd have the benefit of the doubt. In the manga, Shield Hero is so much stronger because he got experience doing everything the hard way. In the Anime, he's stronger simply for unlocking the cursed shield series.
Started high, ended low
Generic trash. The story took the typical route if semi-interesting start, with a catchy premise then does a 360 and shits the bed completely. Seems to make a successful LN these days you just have to be really good at intro and everything else unnecessary. Cool ideas but not structure or meat in the story seems to be the trend now.
Don't we all?
The generic anime ending is to abandon the story with a dozen or more unanswered questions.
>then does a 360
you mean a 180, retard.
That would mean doing the opposite.
But here it repeats itself, and does worst the second time.
Boring shit
Isn't he something
>deadraphtaliaskeleton.jpg
He also fucks a dragon in that very timeline.
Incel isekai
tripfag i have a question.
Naofumi and the bow hero still have the vassal mirror and the musical instrument after they come back to melromarc's world in volume 20?
I'm sorry.
I am led to believe they can, but the how is lost to me. Apparently naofumi can use the mirror's reinforcement method somehow too.
I dont think theres anything to be sorry about user.
I stole a hatching from wild bird nest and it died when I was six.
I watched S1 to the end and left it there.
It was OK, but it deteriorated.
By far the best thing was the Naofumi-Raphtalia relationship with her growing up. A whole season on that would have been good, but they did it all in about 1½ episodes. Big Chicken was occasionally fun but by then it had started to go downhill into silly wish-fulfillment.
I think I just want to play a game with those weapon unlock mechanics now.
Why couldn't Raphtalia find Motoyasu until the end of loop 7?
I read but google translate was too hard to understand
Cheap bait aimed at hikkineets who've been pushed out of society through bullying, their own ineptitude, etc... IT ISN'T FAIR! IT'S THEIR FAULT! I'M PERFECT 'N SHIET! Some random nobody got wronged, but he's all righteous and moral and better than everyone else, regardless of what he says or does (that's the message). He gets waifus and becomes the savior or whatever. Very generic self insert.
Because she's fucking glass cannon and without Naofumi around to tank she's fucking useless in an actual fight.
i finished volume 19 a while ago and it never mentioned that he got his shield unsealed at the end and in vol 20 you can see him with his normal shield.
guess something got lost in translation.
>Rising of the Shield Hero
Trash. Lance hero is where it's at.
>moefumi
He'll eventually get twisted too.
Lance just twisting him into pedophilia, bestiality, and incest
>naofumi
>righteous and moral
Only on the neuterized anime version, he's a funny asshole in the novel
Because she's a sick/diseased loli that's enslaved and in a cell
Not sure on that one. Gonna have to read the chapter but it's most likely due to some time having past since motoyasu died and raphtalia's arrival. I do also believe it takes a bit of time for raphtalia to enter the timeline by herself when it restarts so motoyasu has some time to do stuff before raphtalia arrives.
The shield's probably unlocked once they got back to raph's world, the shield and bow would have still been sealed if they kept around glass's world even if they have the backing of two holy weapons from that world since they got sealed with the authority of 3 back in vol 17.
Motivating really
Even more of an asshole in the WN.
I rather like how naofumi becomes like his main timeline self when pushed to the limit.
Doesn't matter how he acts, in the end he gets to save people who are wrong, who never learn, could even say that he becomes some kind of babysitter, not to mention that he gets waifus, but is above ploughing them, because he hates himself. Seriously, there are thousands of isekai stories everywhere and this is just some random ass trash that lucked out to get exposure through an anime adaptation. 2/3 of stories have a similar premise. Probably not even exaggerated to say that they're exactly the same. OP savior MC, who's a "mysterious" loner, has waifus that he in most cases doesn't want or particularly care about (he doesn't overtly express it; remember that hikkineets are virgins who don't know love. gotta limit it), has some deliberately designed arrogant and hateful rivals (school bullies), his abilities are all broken beyond comprehension and his struggles don't really matter because he has plot armor and it's all a matter of time before he becomes a god (delusions, megalomania), etc, etc... a pointless discussion. Everyone's trying to cash in on the isekai train until it lasts. I blame smartphones and mass production of video games. Whatever. Doesn't matter. Here's my (me). Thanks.
t. animeonly
>but is above ploughing them
>he doesn't know
Yeah, yeah, I'm replying to this out of boredom. A shitty excuse, I know. Whatever. I watched a few episodes of the anime before I dropped it. Skimmed through the manga and saw too many parallels to other isekais to care about it. It's the usual... I'll give it points for not being Korean. Those isekais are dreadful. I should get reimbursed for brain damage that I got from them.
>Doesn't matter how he acts, in the end he gets to save people who are wrong, who never learn, could even say that he becomes some kind of babysitter, not to mention that he gets waifus, but is above ploughing them, because he hates himself
Naofumi later goes god complex and corrupted to the point where he was pretty much a supervillain. Ralph at this point drops his ass. Nao then tries to create clones of her and fails. Creates a new race of creatures. Lance dies. Bitch dies. Trash actually a past staff hero. You know nothing.
Normally I'd tell you to read the VN, but spoilers are more fitting for you.
>it's pedo slave shit
>:(
The new seven sins arc doesn't happen in the LN by the way. Instead they take a trip to the home country of raphtalia's parents.
>take a trip to the home country of raphtalia's parents.
That sounds like scraping the bottom of the barrel. Is author writing anything else?
Yeah there's that "become a soldier before becoming an adventurer" isekai. There's also that villainess becomes ironman isekai, and they're still continuing to write chapters for the spear hero WN.
Mind posting names?
Also
>they
That's a circle or something?
No i just put "they" as in i don't know what are their gender.

A lot of people hate on the mad scientist arc; IMO that was one of the most fun arcs in the entire story. Not only was it absolutely hilarious, but Naofumi was a complete badass who got shit done without scruples, despite his obvious insanity.
That's good to know thanks.
>completed under 80 chapters
Why?
I'm not sure, the author probably got caught up with the shield anime and his other works that they couldn't continue with the story so they put a "and then the advtenture goes on" kind of ending so they get back to the story later... probably.
I took a look at the ending, it's a bit lazy. I think the author just got tired of it and wrapped it up in a rush.
Sounds awfully familiar.
That dumb chicken was fucking unbearable
That's mostly how motoyasu sees women than being actual pigs, user.
BUENO
I liked the first 9 chapters of the manga back when they were first being translated. Read it with a pit in my stomach as things started off bad, got a little better, then was about to turn to shit. For obvious reasons, the anime didn't have the same impact.
Everything after the Church of Three Heroes + Naofumis redemption is pretty bad, since they fail to capture that emotional drama that carried the early chapters.
Dat Penkin though
>argh how dare you translate my works now I will write one less novel, that will show them
What's this about?
Lance protecting the shield from roastie piggus
Maruayama tongue-in-cheek post about how he's taken aback by english pirate TL and doesn't want to write next volume.
Hint: he doesn't want to write Overlord anymore at all.
best boys comming back in a couple of days.
Said Eclair, looking and sounding the most thirsty of them all combined.
That's cool and all, but I really don't care. I was right about him being broken. That's all that matters. The fact that he is or was so deluded and corrupt with power not to realize what truly mattered before he lost it, is proof enough that it's a generic whatever isekai, like any other. What story doesn't do that anyway? Either the op hero saves the world and it ends there or it continues on until he becomes the villain. That much is inevitable. My main reason for disliking it, like many other isekais, aside from the forced personalities of the idiot characters, is that very fact that the mc is broken. Such stories are incredibly boring. I much prefer a constant struggle, where the mc has a role to play, is average or good at it, not the best. A story of growth. A struggle to overcome adversity. The culmination being some kind of achievement that doesn't involve saving the world. Nothing that extravagant. Something far smaller and more personal. Finding a place to belong. Working hard for it. An example would be a typical isekai scenario, but the mc is a computer illiterate and the world doesn't have typical game mechanics. It can be d&d style, sure, but no info dumping, abilities, levels and such. d&d in the sense of races, world, spells and monsters and such. Talking about this kinda reminds me of Grimgar, but I'll refrain from making any comparisons because I haven't bothered with the novel. At least it starts good.
I think I prefer Glass's other outfit, and hairdo.
Eclea pure. Even lance sees her not as a pig.
It's not that great
It sets out to sort of subvert the standard isekai shit by making the mc start off weaker and hates by most people but after a while all that falls away and you have a super powered isekai protagonist with a harem like everyone's seen a million times.
She had just come out of the bath. But damn if she doesn't look hot. Im sad that even when that timeline continued naofumi and eclaire's relationship never got further. Instead he fucked a dragon and ended up with the panda again.
Pandas need to procreate user.
>It sets out to sort of subvert the standard isekai shit
I seriously doubt the author wanted to subvert isekai, people only say this now because we have a shit ton of isekai, but at the time it wasn't really considered a subversion or "deconstruction"
Generic, wish-fulfillment garbage. MC is a blatant Gary Studio that dindu nuffin and anyone that says otherwise just so happens to be cartoonishly evil and/or stupid.
a shame the author dropped the duke's daughter
>wish-fulfillment
All entertainment media is.
Also Trash has legit reasons to hate shield hero.
A lot of people seem to forget or don't know that shieldbro was one of the first isekais in the isekai boom.
dumb mobile user.
So in that case it's just another generic isekai. However you take it it's nothing special nowadays
Certainly one of the first one to get any kind of traction, Mushoku was first I think.
Does that mean the fans are cartoonishly evil and/or stupid?
Moustache-twirling evil?
>nothing special
I'm nothing special and I'm alive and enoying simple things in live like cheaply available escapism.
Stop saying like isekai content like that ain't needed nowadays.
This. Mushoku Tensei, Shield Hero, and Konjiki no Word Master basically kicked off the entire isekai craze.
Sure you can see it as however you want, I was just dispelling the notions that Shield Hero ever set out to be a subversion of isekai like many people seem to believe
I mean are you not? Give me any kind of superpower and you bet I'd plunge the world in some kind of despair, whether I mean it or not.
Someone have a translated volume 18?
Doesn't the mc of MT masturbates to his niece?
If you don't mind russian
ding dong your opinion is wrong
Is that all you want? Just lowest common denominator mindless escapism? Don't you want something a little more stimulating than the same shit over and over and over?
Sure, maybe I read into the authors intent too much
pastebin.com
that's the MT of the chinese fan translation.
i hated reading it.
Give me something with the good ol smoke and mirrors user.
Yes I Imagine that's what picrelated NU comment author talks about although I don't see anything wrong with it.
Thoughtcrime isn't the actual deed in my book.
>Is that all you want?
I've read more stimulating books before I sold my soul to IT for salary, since then anything goes and I have zero shame about it.
I even have apocalyptic dreams where I content with dying as I am now.
I already tried to translate the chink one but couldnt make sense of what I was reading.
>The Rising of the Shield Hero
more like
>Poor mans "The Hero Who Seeks Revenge Shall Exterminate With Darkness"
I want to say something so I'm going to say Solo leveling? MC probably going to ascend inadvertently into villainy solely through desire to save his mum
Did Kumo Chan Desu Ga proper TL ever catch up from chapter 1? I remember dropping WN because my eyes could not take MTL any longer, around human x elf + robot x demons war.
Even people with superpowers need money. Probably even more money than a normal person would need, in fact. And the easiest way to get money is always to break some laws. Becoming a villain is only logical if you have a superpower. Being a hero is the illogical thing to do, which makes sense, because people who act on emotion are illogical, and those are the same types who would go for being a hero.
Actually no, that would be nidome no yuusha
yeah it's shit.
The russians will start translating it in autumn.
>mfw we're good for something
...
looks pretty good. i'll check it out
I thought you'd tell me how would you dominate the world with mirrors and a smoke machine.
A lot of people don't know how genres work. And think "transfer to another world" counts as an inciting incident.
The difference between Shield Hero and Rayearth is that the Knights from another world in Rayearth were actually important.
Shield Hero is literally replaceable. And the conspiracy against him doesn't make sense because they could have easily assassinated him instead of frame him for rape.
Is that the one where he damages the womb of a girl so she won't be able to have kids
A good candidate for next season's Isekai Quartet
>how would you dominate the world
Oh that's what you mean sorry I'm shitfaced
>get INT if possible to better plan my action
>educate myself so I can solidify my resolve, don't want to end like Garou in OPM lacking core belief and losing
>assemble capable cadres aligned with my keikaku, even with superpowers you can't rule alone
>take over some country in need e.g. Japan is threatened by chinks and depopulation, corruption is rampant in Russia, South American nations are riddled with drug cartels, SAR is failing after cancelling apartheid etc.
>learn information only available at national level I'm sure there's enough to make me puke for a week
>either align myself with existing powers or stand my ground to oppose them
>if need be instigate distraction, emphasizing weaknesses in world superpowers so I have leeway to take action
lol, yeah.
>they could have easily assassinated him
>another war with demu-human stats during the Waves
Good fucking job
How would they know? If they can convince everyone that the shield hero was a sexual predator. They could have convinced everyone he was eatten by a monsters of something when he was still lv1.
In fact that's what happened in one spear hero loop, but since a hero died, motoyasu got booted out of the loop before we could see the repercussions.
Why did they even need the Heroes when the Pope had a Mutli Weapon the entire time?
Because that weapon still isn't as strong as a group of under developed heroes, and is really difficult to power.
this chapter has me in tears, the build up was a bit harsh and long
slothtranslationsblog.com
but jesus this chapter is making me giggle.
>How would they know?
Ninjas of like all nations used to shadow Naofuimi.
>Shield Hero is literally replaceable
if they kill him and the other 3, yes.
also if they kill him Silvelt is invading the next morning and they know it.
That weapon needs too many people putting mana on it for months to charge it, and it gets out of charge pretty fast.
Because a hero dying before the waves would be on the country that summoned them and they would be in some deep shit. The way the plan wouldve worked was strip him of anything useful and have him die inside a wave to clear any suspicion
This. Queen had to placate industrial countries not to invade as is.
>MC travels the land collecting loli slaves who win battles for him
I guess the premise is ok but the execution (in the anime) was downright horrible. Static frames look ok but the writing is horrible, and it fails in just about every aspect of cinematography. The pacing of the dialogue is horrible, horrid CGI, there is basically no continuity between shots, there is no real sense of space and time. Not to mention how utterly it fails at any emotional impact due to overdoing it a thousand times over. I wanted to have fun watching it but it was just jarring.
I don't understand how the MAL crowd could give utter trash like this a rating of 8.2. Are they all blind, deaf and retarded?
>MAL
Why don't you fuck off and ask them directly?
I am doing that right now.
The waves already started. The plan was to monopolize the heroes and let the waves destroy the enemy nations.
They have to keep the shield hero alive so that some other nation doesn't summon a replacement.
stay there.
>summon a replacement.
Can't do that until they're all dead.
That's like Soul Eater fight they couldn't survive without Shieldbro.
>reading comprehension
I am right here, yes.
>MAL
Gravity has been cruel.
>isekai protagonist is an african warlord
It would've been great if it wasn't terrible.
absolute garbage
Sorry, i should have phrased it better. I meant during a wave.
>MAL
The LN was boring and the animu had shit animation.
It had shit everything. For some reason every line of dialogue felt like it was 5 seconds too late. All the awkward pauses made me feel my IQ ticking down.
Not true.
>feel my IQ ticking down.
That's called aging user.
Anime says this several times. Is it revealed to be false in whatever source material this has?
Yes, that's why you have proper dialogue timing. So I don't have to listen to myself getting older while waiting for the character to finally speak.
Can't wait to watch you get your logical butt get handed to you.
You can use logic to derive literally any conclusion because it all depends on completely arbitrary assumptions to begin with. A hero is acting logically, he just holds fundamental values you disagree with. But fundamental assumptions are by definition not logically derived, so you can't prove the other side wrong.
Where in the anime? They weren't suppose to summon 4 heroes at the same time to begin with.
By that logic, if they summoned 1 hero like they intended, then they couldn't summon the other 3 if they needed to.
The heroes were intended to be summoned separetely and by turns so if one country failed summoning their hero then it would be another contry's turn to do so. But melromarc just dabbed on everyone and summoned all 4. The chances of summoning all 4 successfully was supposed to be pretty much impossible or at the least, very improbable. And just trying to summon even one wasn't guaranteed but the 3 hero church had some relics stashed to boost the summoning chance(some of them probably stolen from the 4 hero church) and the waves being a thing also had an effect in having all heroes being able to be summoned.
Possibly a unique rule in glasses world. Explaining why they can't just summon new heroes. All their heroes were dead, except for the Hunting-Tool hero who was trapped in another dimension.
They werent dead, they were just going their own way. They then died and got their weapons stolen so technically there are 4 heroes active.
technically there are still 4 heroes in glass's world i mean. Then in vol 19, sadina's sister became a holy hero of glass's world.
The Holy Weapons are suppose to disappear with the Hero. Maybe you're thinking of the vassel weapons.
I think the 4 weapons are linked to the spirit beasts. In Glasses world, they're all dead except for the dragon king that the Hunting-Tool Hero helped seal.
>All entertainment media is.
No, not even close. That is mostly Isekai, which is known as an inherently trash genre.
>No, not even close
Yes it is nobody would consume it if it's was not fulfilling any wishes. Are you retarded not to understand that?
You must be a sad human being if you consume media just to fufill wishes.
>That is mostly Isekai
Not by a long mile, isekai is just the most blatant version of it
>every piece of media there is, ever
>by definition
Okay retard.
Oh, I didn't know shit like the Hunchback of Notre Dame counted as wish fulfillment now.
Anime made me consume everything that is Shield Hero related and got me to read the WN which I thoroughly enjoy so far.
>ugly beta orbiter gets affection
Like 2nd most popular trope out there.
Very weak bait, you disappoint.
>not self inserting as the chad knight who cucks the hunchback
She probably slipped on a banana peel and died.
Neither of you actually read the original book, have you?
You can feel superior user I don't mind.
>Yea Forums
>reading
lol.
They don't play vg either. There aren't many rpgs that use the portal fantasy set up.
>but at the time it wasn't really considered a subversion
Naofumi gets isekai'd and he is all like Oh nice, Another world
cardinal trio gets arrogant because they think they are the anime isekai MC
The enemies are a bunch of isekai'd people with literal cheats who think they deserve greatness
I don't think you know what subvert means.
FFX subverts isekai because it starts out as if Tidus went to another world - BUT he actually didn't.
Planet of the Apes subverts isekai because it looks like he's on a different planet - BUT it's actually just Earth in the future.
Shield Hero never pulls the rug out from under you.
Jesus Christ chapters take for fucking ever and when they do drop there's like no content at all in them.
That's really surprising actually. I can think of like 2. Maybe 3 if you count a non-player character that came from another world.
incel anime
Mad as hell by the pussy way they handled Bitch and Thrash. I like it enough though.
It's okay
It's alrite I geso
That would normally be the case user. But some of the reincarnators have some acessory that lets them steal even holy weapons, leaving heroes defenseless and without power.
>mfw some rando walks up to spear and just grabs his spear off
It happened to naofumi at least. But he got better and he used the authority granted to him as a holy hero to get the shield and the other stolen vassal weapons back from the fag that stole them. However this same authority was used against him and itsuki when they went to glass's world, and both their weapons got sealed by the reincarnators who managed to grab 3 of the 4 holy weapons of glass's world. The 4th that is kizuna's holy hunting tools was still held by kizuna but she got petrified by the reincarnators and otherworld invaders.
i wonder if rider belts are considered weapons.
Probably equipment like the mascot outfits.
Even in isekai, damn you dickade.
I like it more than most do, I think the haters are retarded when their criticisms amount to "the other heroes are too dumb/annoying", when that's obviously THE FUCKING INTENTION.
Reddit especially was horribly annoying with this critique. Fuck I'm mad.
just finished the anime today and waiting with bated breath on s2 official announcement
imo it started off really strong and compelling, love the story and the world, but lost some traction during the second cour, still really enjoyed it though.
all in all i think it has been a great ride so far, and has lots of potential to become even greater if adapted and worked on properly. thinking about picking up the manga and ln and see where it goes from here. easily one of my favorites i've seen in awhile.
was actually waiting for this thread on Yea Forums and im glad its finally come
Edgy moron in the manga/WN, mature adult in the anime. Anime is better.
they toned down a bit of the heroe's dumbass in the anime
I think most anime can't continue to keep its hype up for very long.
Imagine the shitstorm if
>even if we die we would wake up in an hospital
happened
If the intention to make them so dumb that noone actually believes they are really that dumb then somebody probably fucked up somewhere in thinking they have to make them that stupid.
If you overdo something too much an audience isn't going to take whatever you're presenting them seriously anymore.
The heroes saying it or that actually happening?
heroes saying that on the conference
*in the anime
dropped that shit when their chicken thing turned into a loli
Am I the only one autist enough to drop this after the first major arc?
I enjoyed the underdog story as much everyone did but when the, obvious and blatant, power wanking started to jerk out all of control on the following arcs it killed my interest.
I loved seeing the guy struggle, trust no one, slaving shit to survive and slowly come out of the top with more and more bullshit happening around and the guy had to deal with it, that's what Shield Hero was to me and the reason I enjoyed it, typical power fantasy but hey it had that little touch that spiced this shit.
But once they removed that it's just a generic fantasy super wank, the bullshit it delivers after the anime ends is ridiculous, the other hero fuckboys? Absolutely useless and you will be reminded of that forever until you get sick and they are going to be scumbags aside from that so you don't feel sympathy for them. No one and nothing is worth caring about anymore. Everything now exists solely to wank the shield hero.
I know there's a limit of how long the author could keep up this whole untrusted struggling hero theme but jesus christ, the way it dropped the ball man.
>Am I the only one autist enough to drop this after the first major arc?
nah i don't blame you.
