Just watched the digimon anime expo panel and the guy said that destiny children will be a middle schoolers, where in Tri they were high schoolers, they decided to take them down to keep their original personality. so they're really preparing to just run with the epilogue, aren't they? Every character's college education leads directly into the occupation we already saw them having in the future.
