I liked FMP, but to think the series represented Kyoani when Air and Kanon were basically airing beside them doesn't make much sense to me. The same goes for Haruhi when its genre/setting isn't much different from Chuunibyou or KnK. I think it's more a matter of the adaptations being hit or miss. You can send them a sympathy message, I guess (not that it will actually be read, since thousands of people are doing the same, but it's the thought that counts, I guess). If you're religious, you can keep the victims and their families in your prayers, and maybe go to a church and light a votive candle or several (though it's harder to find churches which have those, these days: used to be every Catholic church had them, now most don't, and many are kept locked even during the day except when mass is being said or confessions heard). You can always build a little memorial shrine at home a burn candles there, too.
Beyond that, I'm not sure there's much you can do. I'm sure the site is bound to become a pilgrimage destination for even western fans, especially if they follow through with building a park and monument. If I ever actually make it to Japan, that's going to be on my itinerary for sure.

The best way to help KyoAni is to buy their digital art or to give money to them directly. If you go that route, the only money you lose to "fees" is the credit card company's processing fee. By donating via Sentai, your money goes through a cc processing fee, GoFundMe's fee, and then any bullshit Sentai may or may not pull.

One week ago all of these talented passionate people were still alive and well, working hard to create work that would make their fans happy. People who were only trying to create art that would bring others enjoyment dying in such an awful way is truly heartbreaking. I knew these people, I had a personal connection to them via these shows I loved so much, and I know many other anons most likely feel the same. I've had a personal connection to KyoAni for a long time that was rekindled over the past couple of years and this has been absolutely devastating to me. All the folks working at KyoAni ever wanted to do was channel their creative energy into things that would entertain people and they have been a source of comfort standing out from all the bleakness in my life. So to see them face something so absolutely ghastly and terrible is like an attack on my soul.

They've been working on stuff that got me into anime and kept me interested in it over the years until I really got into it. Inuyasha, Clannad, Haruhi, K-On, Hyouka, Chunnibyou, all of these I ended up watching as I was casually interested in anime before I really cared about studios or creative staff at all and they were all good enough that I kept coming back to anime. They've been there the whole time and the last few years of really getting into it they became my favorite studio and really distinguished themselves in my eyes as having ambishions to be better than the declining standards of the industry as a whole just because they could. I started learning their names and have always been genuinely excited to hear what they were going to be working on next.
And then one day half of them are maimed/killed in just one of the worst ways possible. Just an event that shouldn't have happened that played out in the worst way possible. It'll be hard to forget about this even after they get on their feet again.
