I'm watching evangelion and I'm at episode 13. How's it acclaimed as one of the deepest anime so far? I honestly can't see it.

try finishing something first before asking questions
perhaps a show that basically altered the culture of a nation has more to it than what is apparent after the thirteenth episode.
DOOD it's got symbolism and hot girls n shit lmao
You fell the the Eva meme dumb ass.
You can stop watching now.
I have watched all of Eva and the end of eva please explain how it did this
brainlets
Don't repeat the mistake generations of western hack commentators of projecting onto Eva things it's creators never meant or intended
I finished it yesterday. I think it is a good show, but I doubt it's omg like the best animated show EVER and can't ever be surpassed, like so many EVA fans say. I understand that it was important in its day because it made depression and neurosis visible, its characters are complex, nobody except Kaji is a mature adult with his life in order, etc, so I understand the appeal. However, the pace is completely screwed up. They included way too many mecha battles so they were left without time to develop the characters' relationships and the overarching conspiracy. I mean, Kaworu appears for 10 minutes. Tôji, Hikari and Ritsuko could have been important yet aren't given enough screentime by the end of the series. So yeah EVA is good but it could have been better.
going to watch Death(True)² and End of Evangelion this week, if I can
It's not, it just has vague references to existing symbolism that makes brainlets feel smart by recognizing.
The OP was nice though.
I genuinely feel such pity for people who dislike eva. I wish you could see it through my eyes and maybe then you could understand. Nothing else even comes close.
I agree. It's just an amazing work
Because in Evangelion Tokyo is very deep under waters.
Like ?
Why would we want to be blind?
Episodes 1-15 of Evangelion are a very different (and arguably better) series than episodes 16-26.
I'm going to download and watch it for the first time. Is this a good rip of it? ignore the russian, it's the only torrent tracker where I can find it in 1080p.
Most of the weirdness people seem to like it for manifest in the latter half and movie.
NGE only starts to get weird about 16 or 17 episodes in
>stop disliking things i like
Yeah that's a good release, you're fine.
OP you are almost to the part where the show get interesting again, at episode 15 and 16 stuff start to happens.
action arc after episode 6 was of course lighthearted and repetitive.
Watch the movies instead 3.0+1.0 is coming out next year and they're far better than the original shit. I didn't need to watch Shinji cry for 15 minutes to figure out he was a little bitch.
Evangelion was a big plan made by CIA in 90's, to fund jihadists cells in middle east.
Back then, every site and some users recived an amount of money to talk about Evangelion on internet - I myself recived 30 bucks each month for 24 months.
If you are talking about Evangelin unit this day and didn't recive any money, you are an idiot.
Objectively, it's very detailed and rich with symbology. As for why it is so well regarded, I think that has more to do with it being relatable to certain kind of people (like me). I don't think everyone can relate.
If in your own life you feel abandoned, afraid of others, resentful, self-loathing, and so on, you will probably find Eva powerfully emotive. It's more of a doomer incel anime, not so much for well-adjusted normies like you.
Step 1: Change audio to Japanese and engage subtitles.
Step 2: Watch the whole thing (including EoE).
Step 3: ??????
Step 4: PROFIT
Dude, I watched it in (shoddy) SD back then, and it was still awesome.
Doubt the rip-quality will make much of a difference there.
The patrician order to watch NGE is skipping some episodes to be directly focused on the most important:
>episodes 1 > 2 > 3 > 5 > 6 > 8 > 9 > 12 > 15 > 17 > 18 > 19 > 21 > 22 > 23 > 24 > EoE.
>skipping episode 04.
DUDE! Episode 04 was the only episode Evangelion was "Evangelion" before the episode 14... and you recomend to skip it as well.
Because I replyed, I give you a 01/10 for your bait.
>4, 11, 16 cut
How can people watch this show and not even get what parts are actually important?
The patrician order to watch NGE is to start watching from episode 8
4 is boring, the only interest is showing the meetings with Kensuke and Toji who feel bad about what he did and want to apologizes., 11 is cool because we see the three childrens fully interact but the show seems to be complete different and not really relevant to the plot, 16 is creepy and intense but too experimental, pretty much like episode 20.
not even sure if watching 9 is necessary.
the patrician apocalyptic way to watch NGE is doing a short marathon starting from episode 21 to EoE.
I started at episode 09, but not because I wanted, it was because it was on TV.
Episode 09: "Lol, I am laughing, this is a cool show"
Episode 16: "What the flying fuck".
You will never watch Evangelion for the first time again...
What is recommended to watch right after the series? Death (True)² or End of Evangelion?
btw Misato > Hikari > Asuka > Maya > blue-haired autist > Dr. Mommy Issues > Dr. Mommy Issues' mum
>You will never watch Evangelion for the first time again...
I will, because I've yet to watch it. But it won't be the same as it was for you, because eva is so ingrained in culture by now that I know a lot about it, and also have had many friends that have discussed it. So I know it'll get fucked up and weird.
>the meetings with Kensuke and Toji who feel bad about what he did and want to apologizes
Good enough reasons to watch the episode imo.
we could easily pretend they treat him well on episode 5 after they see him crying inside the Eva.
Maybe try finishing it and watching End of Evangelion
It's not deep at all, it's just pretentiouscore for pseuds
>muh authorial intent
Your subconscious is a lot smarter than you are and just because the artist isn’t aware of subtle messages in his own work that doesn’t mean they aren’t there
Eva's philosophy from what I can recall was that it's not about the spectacle. It used "popular anime" tropes like mecha, and shounen weekly baddy power creeping, to ultimately deliver it's whole intended message across the entire original broadcast of episodes. Unfortunately because it used those tropes, it would seem eva was pushed into lengthening those spectacle tropes through extra content beyond the original broadcast episodes to turn it into a profitable avenue for merchandising.
It's philosophy was ultimately unreasonable, though very strong. "Anime isn't important. Live your life." Which could probably be better conveyed as just "live your life instead of obsessing over things you can do at home"
Congratulations for you major in Brainlet.
Were the creatures in DC ever "real"? As in, could they affect the human characters?
This always confused me, when they were running away from those big search and destroy things, it's like they were running for their lives.
They're not real and can't do anything to your real body, but they can mess up your cyberbody which can even be lethal. So like if you're completely disconnected then no, they're harmless.
Keep watching, impatient fag.
Death (True) is completely unnecessary to watch. I don't even know why they bothered putting on netflix
>Symbology
>skipping emotional payoff of a finale to a mini character arc
Stupid, you don't watch these scenes for knowledge, you watch for the experience.
It's complete and utter dogshit OP. Trust me. Gurren Lagann is 10,000 times the show this dung heap could ever hope to be and it doesn't have to try hard to be pretentious and 2deep5u like Eva does while doing it.
what are you talking about eva is really good
This isnt the special needs classroom...
It's really not. The plot is overly convoluted but the shows beats its message over the audience's head. If you're asking when it gets better its episode 16
>Skipping episode 4
Anta baka?
No, it's really not. I got through to the ending and started watching End of Evangelion and quit watching when Shinji jerks off to his unconscious friend. If you perceive that scene as anything insightful or meaningful, you are a complete idiot and a tool. No human being would ever do something like that. The fact her tits come flying out in the first place is also completely silly and removes any sort of serious tone the scene was going for in the first place. "Oops, I shook her a little bit and her gown came popping open tee-hee". Give me a fucking break.
I'll go into the shitty characters now too while I am at it because they need to be addressed. Rin is completely 1 note and boring in every single second of screentime she has. She does nothing, accomplishes less and makes me feel nothing for her from start to finish. The "twist" that she is a soulless clone could not have been more obvious or dull yet somehow totally cartoonish for a show that is really REALLY trying hard to take itself seriously.
Asuka at least seems like a real human being but unfortunately is on the wrong show. She only serves as a proxy for the creator behind the show to vent his frustration on women, hence the Shinji choking her scene and him masturbating to her as well. It's also why she calls him disgusting because it happened to him in real life, along with all of those lines from random women rejecting him being there as well.
Misato is fan service, definitively. She does nothing the first 14 episodes but drink, shout incoherent battle strategies and fuck. Then she goes on to do nothing at all.
The only interesting character the show offers, Kaworu, is killed in 10 minutes. He is NOT interesting because he is an Angel, or Adam, or whatever, he is interesting because he has an actual personality and so you realize the show only allows him to live as long as they can possibly give him interesting dialogue (wow, shocker, ten minutes) before killing him abruptly.
(1/2)
i think you're wrong
7.5/10
Retarded copypasta probably written by a fujo.
anyway what's the most useless episode? they are all importants with worldbuilding of course but i think you can watch the show with skipping Jet Alone, Magma Diver and that episode about the computer angel focused on Ritsuko.
(2/2)
Shinjis dad is as predictable as it gets. Of COURSE he secretly loves his son, boo-hoo. Of course he is trying to reunite with his dead wife. No fucking shit. If you were taken aback by these developments, bravo, you have a double-digit IQ and should get yourself institutionalized. He was almost an interesting character until I realized he was just a gimmick and I HOPE a parody of the trope he represents, although knowing this show, he is not.
Now I will get into the clusterfuck trash heap that is the original ending, and then the even shittier movie ending. The original ending is not only a cash-grab from how many animations it recycles, it is so mind numbing and repetitive that I almost got a migraine just trying to sit through it. It also serves to tie up all of zero loose ends because the creator had no clue what to do with them. So you get the shitty "congratulations" ending with Shinji realizing he can like himself and live his life as his own person. Absolutely pathetic. The most insulting moral lesson you could ever receive from an anime is "just bee yourself :^)" and the fact that bottom-feeding simpletons on here gobble it up is more evidence that I am right, not the other way around.
The "REALLL" ending is even shittier if you can believe it. The movie you are forced to sit through, again, starts with a young girl getting masturbated at by a young boy because he is just so stressed out and omg he doesn't believe in himself and omg isn't he just disgusting? Long story short, everyone melts into orange goo and humanity becomes one organism all according to the plan of the boring SEELE group. But don't worry, if you are melted into orange goo you can come back if you believe in yourself hard enough. Despite the fact that in the 2 movies and 26 episodes of show prior to this, it never comes up and is never mentioned as a possibility. Just a last second thing. It is complete and utter trite and the girls are shit and ugly
Knowledge is part of the experience, Misato you whore.
>what's the most useless episode?
1-26, I recommend skipping all of them and watching Gurren Lagann.
>tits flying out unrealistic
My friend got shitfaced real bad once, and was practically unconscious. This was during winter so she had several layers of clothes under her jacket. The four of us had to practically drag her limp body and believe it or not, her tits did come out from under all of her layers. It wasn't intentional or lecherous or anything, her clothes just got misplaced from being limp and dragged around./blog
your opinion doesn't count if you've only seen NGE one time btw....
Absolutely based posts
>I started at episode 09
>191090999
Having to watch something multiple times to get the message means it is doing a shitty job of conveying that message.
Okay, I will give you that. Tits can indeed sometimes come flying out at bad moments. The rest still applies, and it is still silly. Did you and your friend by any chance masturbate on her tits? I'm assuming not. Because you have empathy for your fellow human beings.
I am not mad at all, just trying to help people not suffer through a bad series like I did for a meaningful experience that was promised and not delivered. While at the same time recommending a show that WILL deliver, called Gurren Lagann that is far superior in every capacity. Art style, music, character design, the list goes on we all know.
fuck netflix
why is this dude even responding to people everyone knows that it's a good thing if a series gets better the more you watch it...
Is the shift key broken on your keyboard
what is wrong with this dude lmao
shut the fuck up phoneposter
>Gurren Lagann
Ah now I see, it all makes sense now
Gurren lagann is just a bunch fan service.
Yes? So is evangelion
gurren lagann are eva are both great eva is just simply better and makes more of a lasting impression...
EVA is the greatest anime ever made. Gurren Lagann is just gay, there I said it.
>How's it acclaimed as one of the deepest anime so far? I honestly can't see it.
because it isn't. Eva is the prime example of circlejerking.
>prime example of circlejerking
No, that would be the original Kemono Friends.
>muh tatsuki
Note: All seasons are shit.
Gurren Lagann is fucking shit.
I mean seeing how many viewers are absolute dunces it kinda needed to beat people over the head.
>Kemono friends
What an absolute pile of shit. I honestly thought I had autism till I watched it and realised that as much as I'm a sperg for watching Japanese cartoons well into adulthood I'll never have such shit taste that I'll find that show enjoyable.
wow you sure convinced me with that red-hot opinion of yours
fpbp
>No human being would ever do something like that
Hahaha, yeah, no human could be that depraved, haha. I can see why someone who can't relate to Shinji wouldn't like Eva.
ITT: faggots
How hard do you think he got when Misato promised to pop his cherry after french-kissing him?
Stop now user, the last two episodes are an animated abortion. The show literally drops any attempt to complete the narrative in favor of cheaply rehashing the entire psychological situation of 4 of the characters, then the last episode straight up tells you they ran out of "time" aka money so they are just going to deal with shinji, at which point it continues to rehash his psychological state and finally provides a resolution to his and ONLY HIS mental character arc, nothing else is addressed, the show mediocre and then self euthanizes, just get out while you still have those 6 hours of your life intact.
That is why you skip that shit and watch EoE the true ending
He still had PTSD from killing Kaworu at the time, so probably not at all
Don't underestimate the power of pussy user.
Are you dumb or just pretending to be? Misato doing that shit even made shit worse. All he needed was some mother love.
Think about it. It you had the power to be amazed by the mundane, life would be much more vibrant.
Or you could just avoid this mediocre train wreck of a series and watch something good
god you're gay
average anime watcher is a brainlet
dbz is the deepest anime confirmed
CHADFORCE ASSEMBLE
30? I'm only making 25!!
Not very, considering she was bleeding out into his mouth and on top of the psychological trauma it should be known that it tastes unpleasant like copper
I think your opinion on series will improve after watching EoE. Its just such a perfect ending and probably among top 3 animated films
>The only interesting character the show offers, Kaworu
BASED.
this entire thread
What would change if NGE were 52 episodes long?
watch the whole thing first, you retard. We have a saying here in Brazil: Evangelion é dono do meu cu.
>deepest anime
It's not. It's just a dumbed down version of ideon with waifus
Every angel fight just takes 2 episodes instead of 1 now.
Oedipus was based
Anno could stuff 4 or 5 shitty hallucination based recap episodes in at the end instead of just 2
Entire subplot about Toji's physical therapy and getting together with Hikari.
That's surprisingly accurate.
Don't try to find meaning in the loose symbolgy and motifs. The christian imagery in and of itself doesn't really have a deeper meaning other than to create an aesthetic style and loosely relate into the Angel/Adam/Lilith stuff. Look more the visual framing and direction in the show. It's very well done and informs a lot about the characters and how they feel then show directly states. Scenes are framed visually to symbolize a lot Eva's themes- like lonliness and separation. Don't get hung up on the memes, Eva really isn't that complex or deep, it just has a few more degrees of subtlety than most other shows. People like Eva because it has relatively complex and relatable characters and some cool story concepts. It also might not seem as original or special now, simply because it galvanized several trends in anime that are by this time are over used.
We would get a 5+ episode adaptation of the ep 24 drafts
The original Kaworu storyboards get animated.
Concept Angels that didn't make it get used, like that energy-collecting prism pill and slow-motion suicide-bombing Neo-Atlantis helmet. Eva upgrades around the middle-point, probably Type-F armor and the Magorox get in because Yamashita made those before the show started. The plots of the VN might happen because the show would still be in production and in need of stories for episodes at the time Gainax switched to making those games. Might stick to the original concept lore because too much of it would be established and teased out in that many episodes to retcon afterward like with D&R. Sports day episode.
rei 3 would have longer screen time
I want to sniff Hikari's slippers
>More Angels
>The End of Evangelion will be episodes
>Kaworu will appear earlier with more screentime like on the manga
>Toji will pilot Eva 03 for some battles before contamination, or maybe after if they make it again.
>Rei III will have more screentime and character dev
>The plot and mythos will be more explained
>Audience will realize Yui is evil
>background story about Kaji like on the manga
>maybe more episodes happening after third impact focused on Shinji, Asuka and Quantum Rei
>expanded love triangle between Asuka, Rei and Shinji
>maybe the plot of Girlfriend of Steel inside
lurk more
Yui wasn't evil you mong.
>Daughter of a seele member
>only cares about her godhood plan
>self-aware about the happening of second impact
>abandon his son and husband
>wants her son to become some messiah for instrumentality, show him the experience with Eva 01 on purpose to create trauma.
>not allowed Shinji to save Asuka from the Eva series.
>get away with it and nobody notices anything.
stop considering this bitch part of the good character, she's a demon and probably half-jew.
Antisemite filth. Kys.
She wanted to prevent 3I you idiot, she figured the only way stop it was to rig shit so Shinji would be the linchpin and reject it
Based
It wasn't until like the third time that I fully appreciated it, I enjoy the series more everywhere I watch it.
>not allowed Shinji to save Asuka from the Eva series.
This isn't a bad thing, Asuka was a cunt to her son she's just getting what she deserves.
It's a retarded plan, Lance of Longius was blocked on the moon, Eva 01 at full power could have destroyed all Eva series and saved Asuka from death.
Rei would have betrayed Gendo anyway, probably using Lilith to leave the planet or transform Lilith into Unit 00 and help Shinji.
Eva 01 going to full power summons the lance down whether it wants to or not I thought.
And then the MP-Evas just pin Unit-01 with their replica lances. No real winning there.
Most influential not deep
could Eva 01 use the lance against them? maybe the false lance have no effect on a Lilith clone or could be deactivated.
Unit 01 would not have gone full power if Shinji did not see the corpse of unit 02.
The moment a piece of art is released into the world, or even viewed, it's out of the creators hands. It no longer matters what they intended. What's important is what the people who experience the art apply to, and take away from it.
Shinji says out loud he can't do anything about whatever is happening to Asuka and Unit 01 responds to that in a second. Responds pretty aggressively, it wants Shinji, wants to do what Shinji wants, and Shinji just expressed he might want to do something. This would be consistent with when Unit 01 awakened, took Shinji, ate the S2, started popping off its restraints and howling at the Moon, but then went back to bed and spent the month contemplating Shinji while allowing Nerv to prod at it again.
What? Shinji spent a whole several minutes crouched in front of his unit, even saying 'mother' and she didn't move.
Can anybody give me a good reason why Shikinami fell in love with/become infatuated with Shinji in Rebuilds? It makes sense and is consistent in NGE but in Rebuilds, without her background pretty much erased and her general change of character, it always felt a tad weird
Because she is the tsundere and Shinji is the main character.
Having a crush on Shinji in 2.0 made plenty of sense.
She sees his good qualities like being a good cook and his selflessness in battle getting his hands damaged, and lives in close proximity to him.
Shikinami also has fewer glaring troubles compared to Soryu, and the closer bond that Rei and Shinji had caused her to realize her feelings quicker through jealousy.
What doesn't make any sense is Asuka still appearing to care for him to some extent 14 years later in 3.0, when she only knew him for at best like a month or so and should have moved on.
Because the Rebuilds and Shikinami are just waifubait for self-inserting otaku
In the manga Shinji actually defended Asuka and fought the Eva series but Lance of Longius fucked up everything because he called it being desperate.
Eva Series use their fake lances only to crucify him.
shikinami is as profoundly lonely as soryu, plus maybe even more socially underdeveloped — soryu at least was able to make friends with hikari and never resorted to talking to inanimate objects, she just covers and copes in different ways. shinji's one of her few peers, they go through a formative experience for her together, she tries to connect, and then he's deeply connected to the two traumatic events that befall her immediately afterwards. frankly it doesn't strike me as particularly contrived that she'd fixate on that time in her life even years later, that's the nature of trauma
I made some webms of Ramiel's fight. Hope you enjoy.
was Shikinami a genetically engineered mutant or something?
who knows, maybe instead of being raised with her father and stepmother she grew up in the system
Actually maybe. She's connected to a real national military, there are no references to any family of hers, and only Eva-01 runs on the mother-child connection but there's still something different about particular children that makes them the only ones that can synchronize.
>Asuka's strength in 3 is actually because she's a vat-grown aryan ubersoldat and the angel contamination is just a nuisance
What a twist
>All the *namis are genetically engineered
Anno don't you fucking dare.
Gurren Lagann sucks dick, I don't see what makes it different from any other shounen
Reminder: ANIMA Mari is a genetically engineered animal/human hybrid loli.
>Ayanami
>Shikinami
>Makinami
3.33 refered to the "Ayanami series"
maybe we will see on the next movie the existence of the Shikinami and Makinami series too.
pic related inspire me for the events between 2 and 3, an evil Rei III protecting the little clones like a mom, only to summon the Adams ritual to bring third impact. (that bitch did that but was stopped and Lilith is fucked up for the good, though it's probably the soul of Rei 1 who escaped from Unit 00 after destruction and was used for her)
So you gonna explain how it's good or just gonna keep going with your brainlet takes?
>Mari and Asuka are genetically engineered soldiers by Euro Nerv based on Yui's old scientist buddies
>Rei is a clone of Yui done after she was absorbed by Eva-01 in an attempt at having a pilot that can work with it
>Shinji is a engineered baby based on Gendo (which is why he has his surname) and is actually unrelated to Yui/Rei (making pairing him with Rei not incest)
>Kaworu is a special clone by Seele made to compliment Shinji, or straight up another Gendo clone (which is why he calls him father)
It's bullshit but I can see it.
The thing about the Ayanami series that is wierd to me is that Asuka appears to identify Rei Q as "one of the early batch of Ayanami types"
What the hell is the later batch?
Is it the loli preview Reis?
And if so, have Asuka and Mari been fighting and killing lolis all these years?
based
sasuga brainlet
could be that her ability to walk, talk, ect is what identifies her, and later models were more like soulless dummy plugs.
Maybe Kaworu is related to Fuyutsuki, maybe the "father" on the moon was not adressed to Gendo.
so it mean the Eva abominations massively produced by Gendo lately are actually controlled by Rei lolis?
the canon of Rebuilds are sure fucked up.
You mean America?
NGE isn’t that deep, only America has deluded itself into thinking that, but in Japan there is a guy giving the finger to the EoE movie on the DVD cover.
Only America claims that NGE is deeper than it really is, so blame them for that.
In Japan it gets mocked and made fun of.
Not that deep bro.
Not that deep.
dishonest post
That’s just postmodernism talking.
Maybe you should ask Anno himself before making that guess.
I literally just finished NGE, can someone explain the last two episodes. Things went off the rails and I have no idea what happened to the plot. What the fuck just happened in the last two episodes? It feels like everything the last twenty episodes was slowly building up just came crashing down on itself.
Can someone explain this ending? It seemed so confused and unsatisfying. I'm gonna watch The End of Evangelion tomorrow.
The last two episodes happen inside of Shinji's head.
EoE happens in the real world in the meantime. Watch it.
Watch EoE first, come back later
Shinji learned to stop being a little faggot, everyone clapped.
Watch EoE
watch EoE tomorrow and you will be satisfied.
watch it again and pay attention to what the characters are saying this time
Fuck off with your e-celebs.
No, the TV end is separate.
They are complementary.
Perhaps, but their events occur in mutually exclusive endings.
thanks, I hope EoE will give me hope that there's so coherence to the conclusion of this story
I paid very close attention, but I still found the instrumentality bit unsatisfying. Everything just sort of fizzled out in every sense of the story.
This had better not be that "curse of evangelion" bullshit when I click on it
that's just flat out incorrect my friend
>Kaworu is a special clone by Seele made to compliment Shinji, or straight up another Gendo clone (which is why he calls him father)
This kind of fits to Seele-01's and Kaworu's dialogue where they seem to recognize Shinji is the main character, like he's described in the Dead Sea Scrolls or something, but they're talking about jumping tracks to something they call Dead Seas Apocrypha and replacing him.
You are literally at the turning point
And you better be watching the ADV dub nigger
Once you've seen EoE and have an undeniably final ending, you may come to appreciate 25/26, the best pleb filters in anime. If there was no EoE I would understand the anger these episodes still attract, but there is.
I decided to rewatch the Unit 01 awakening scene in the Rebuilds to see if it was still as bad as I remembered.
God they ruined what is the best scene in the series from the flashy animation to the goddamn energy arm.
Listen, you all need to stop shipping Shinji with characters in this series. The kid doesn't need a romantic partner, what he needs is a therapist. The only reason he "loved" Kaworu was because he was the basically the personification of unconditional love and acceptance. Shinji was a selfish kid who wanted a relationship that consisted of taking, taking, and taking without having to give back, and no relationship-familial/romantic/platonic-works that way. Enough with the shipping shit.
Proof?
I love LAS because cute but this is objectively true
Higuchi Shinji is there, too, and allowed to self-reference like everybody else. About making energy arms out of beam attacks to rip out the girl that the bad kaiju ate to power up.
Kaworu's concept of love was everyone would want to die if they were as woke as him and that they needed his help. It had some conditions.
i'd like to make shinji take, take and take without giving if you know what i mean
>Shinji was a selfish kid who wanted a relationship that consisted of taking, taking, and taking without having to give back, and no relationship-familial/romantic/platonic-works that way.
Blatantly wrong. Shinji is more than willing to give to other people. He cooks and cleans for Misato just fine, he makes normal friendship bonds with Touji and Kensuke, even puts up with Asuka's shit. Shinji is just a kid with a shitty life.
Why is everyone always like hurr durr Kaworu isn't right for Shinji, I think you mean to say
SHINJI ISN'T RIGHT FOR KAWORU
Can someone please give my boy a nice lilin bf/gf who will contribute to the relationship and actually listen to his 2deep4u monologue instead of just blushing like a retard?
Goddammit I never even noticed that it was a Gamera reference. Higuchi and Anno are friends too.
>actually listen to his 2deep4u monologue instead of just blushing like a retard?
I always did find this kind of funny, since I am pretty sure Shinji didn't bother listening to or trying to decipher a thing Kaworu was saying while they were together.
to be fair, shinji doesn't try too hard to decipher what anyone else says to him either
I dropped this shit because I realized it was just episodic bs. Also it was kind of boring until Asuka appeared.
Cant see it because you didnt exist prior to it, and have drowned in what it has influenced, since.
Duh.
Yes, but in this case he's all smiles and blushes following Kaworu around as he expounds on the human condition with partially depressing undertones beneath it, that makes it funny.
He can clap back at Kaji, work out what Rei means by she's bound and has nothing else, recognizes about half the time when Asuka's covering for insecurities, and he's at least attentive when Misato levels with him. He can do it on stable ground or if the other person is communicating clearly.
That's why I like LAS so much. They both wanted each other but were too fundamentally broken to be honest because of their fear of rejection and getting hurt from the Hedgehog's Dilemma. One or two good, honest interactions between them could simultaneously benefit both of their situations, eg. If the kiss went right.
The whole two broken halves makes a whole. Although if they actually were honest with themselves and each other the whole end of the world could probably have been averted and then Eva wouldn't be Eva. It's kinda tragic in that regard
>pacing is screwed up
>aren't given enough screen time
you're not suppose to pull out your phone mid watch bro...
At least they most likely fucked either sometime before or during Instrumentality. Whatever the fuck that shot of her hair falling on him while he's naked meant.
rei>asuka
You may not like it but it's true ;')
i doubt it. That shot was just one of those 'dream' sequences that happens when the character's are having their inner monologues/mind rape sessions.
Now, after Instrumentality, I would bet on it.
I don't ship characters that are miserable around each other 100% of the time, and I especially don't ship characters that drool over other people 100% of the time.
Honestly what is the point in shipping something where you have to pretend the characters are completely different people to make it work?
>shinji, life is pain and death is the only absolute freedom there is
>yeah haha you're so handsome kaworu-kun
Wrong.
People aren't monolithic, user. There's no set way Shinji or Asuka have to be. If that user gets off on potential character development, who's to say he's wrong?
>There's no set way Shinji or Asuka have to be
Except, y'know, the way they're portrayed in the show?
I just don't understand the point in shipping something that's 100% steeped in speculation, something that never was and never will be shown in the show.
Because then you're basically shipping something that has no basis in reality, something that only exists in the headcanons in your mind - and doesn't that go against the anti-escapism theme of the show?
Asuka absolutely wanted Shinji, and Shinji wanted anybody really, there's no 'pretending' there. I like the idea that if one of them was honest with themselves for one interaction instead of putting up a mask (asuka) or running away and making the most non-committal responses possible (shinji), the two could have helped each other work through their problems.
The most 'pretend' thing is thinking any of them would ever be honest with their true intentions at any point before Instrumentality. They're too traumatized and too conditioned by their defense mechanisms from childhood to ever be honest with themselves, let alone others.
>191090999
>1100
>99999
What does it mean.
Asuka wanted her mother, everyone else was just a means at getting validation.
Every single relationship in the show was just people trying to receive validation from others.
Shipping in Eva is stupid and a waste of time because it never happened in the show and never will happen in the canon story.
There's a reason why the shitty spinoffs that do have shipping have all these characters acting ridiculously OOC.
Its not a waste of time because it is fun.
I mean I guess you can argue fun is a waste of time, but then why the hell are any of us here wasting time posting about a japanese cartoon?
I think the bit is that if you're looking at it that way, you're getting a pretty shallow reading of the show (one that we've learned from other shows), and that if you appreciate the disconnection and neuroses of the character relationships, then you will get much more out of the show. That's how I see it at least.
>Except, y'know, the way they're portrayed in the show?
Which is not as behaving always the same. Shinji isn't always a broody kid and Asuka isn't always mind broken and comatose.
>doesn't that go against the anti-escapism theme of the show?
That's a bit extreme. It's just imagining how a pairing would be. It would be one thing if you pointed out to something that is contradictory, but simply thinking characters could progress beyond their neuroses could never be against the show's message.
Validation =/= genuine affection and love
She wanted validation to support her mask she puts up of 'being above' others so she could convince herself she was fine alone. The mask is a result of her fear of intimacy and rejection she got from childhood. She never has to be worry about being pricked if she convinces herself she is fine alone and doesn't go for real intimate relationships.
She wanted real, genuine love and affection just like every other character in the show. Shinji was like an emotional Kyoko replacement in that regard.
Oh, I don't disagree with you at all. Evangelion absolutely is more valuable for why the characters aren't together.
Did you miss the 800 times Asuka was screaming at others to look at her?
I think there are just a decent amount of people who just don't get Eva, unfortunately. I think it helps to contextualize it a bit, but if it doesn't grab you it doesn't grab you. Not a reflection on you imo, just the way it is.
We were kids and knew nothing of philosophy, when you are young you may feel sorry for Shinji but once you grow you realize that hes nothing more than a crying paggot
OP just got roasted
>nothing more than a crying paggot
Maybe if you grow up to have issues with insecurity around childhood and weakness, while also being incapable of nuance
I think you're missing the point my friend
I completely agree.
The show would have been considerably worse and not a good commentary on anything if everybody didn't have notable amounts of trauma and mental issues. It would have just been a feel good ending where everybody learns to love themselves and others unconditionally, ofherwise.
>ADV dub
oh no no no sweetie
IM WHITE AJAJAJJAJAJAJJA
I really wonder how it's going to end in the final movie doe
Not going to lie, I almost want a tie in with EoE in the hopes of actually giving the kids and Misato a happy ending. At the very least Asuka and Shinji if EoE gets tied in.
But it's Eva so that probably won't happen and we'll just get Rebuilds take on EoE, which I don't mind neither
Ok but what was the point in blueballing us with shinji and asuna when he just goes gay for the dude in the second to last episode? Did the director just want to troll people? Also how did he get away with putting the gayshit on air, I thought kids were watching this shit back then
based
God please don't tie it into the original series.
Its going to piss me off in some way doing that...which I realize might be Anno's goal.
Oh 100%. 2 mentally and emotionally broken teens who only have each other will use sex as a way to feel close. It’s not healthy but it’ll be all they have for awhile.
Shinji wasn't beaten up enough, didn't think he was a murderer, still trusted himself to potentially do a thing that wasn't wrong. He was too sane, he needed another episode to take sanity points off of him before he knows where Asuka is or he might have gone to see a sick friend in the hospital for other reasons than to beg for attention.
Maybe because shipping isn’t the theme of the serie you retard.
Jesus Christ you are only half way through it. I don't even understand people who don't enjoy the first half or say it's typical anime? What anime has such a fucked up depressed protag? He is the literal opposite of every typical Shonenfag. Then there's the world building, animation, character designs. The show is a stratosphere above most anime and it oozes quality in every single way.
Seasonal anime has killed any well developed and thought out anime series. The studios don't have the time to plan out shows. It should take a year or more to do the pre-production alone. But they have so little time now because everything is so rushed.
I mean fugging is the ultimate intimacy so it'll probably help them get over their extreme fear of rejection, at least. Considering Instrumentality didn't mostly set them straight yet.
Who would initiate it? My money is on Asuka_
>goes onto Yea Forums to make threads halfway through a series.
Here's how you watch eva
>you sit through NGE
>sit and think about it for a week, let it all sync in
>watch end of eva
>sit and think about it too
>come to a conclusion.
>after all that talk to people about it online.
i see the whole series. i agree with. the reason? probalby baby's first "deep" anime
naturally, though she'd have to think of some pretense to make sure shinji doesn't think she actually WANTS to fuck or anything
>We have to make sure everything is in working order, Third Child. Now just ram it in already!
She orbits Shinji all series. She singularly wants him for her emotional support/affection as opposed to her ego/mask validation.
Shinji kind of wanted anybody to show him unconditional love, but that may have changed by EoE.
So I'd put money on asuka
Eh, she spends most of her time whining about Kaji
When what such people take away from the art isn't grounded in the anime and is instead their own projections it's nonsense. The show is a fun watch mostly for the engaging characters but many take the lazy Christian symbolism and le unexplained plot points as 2deep4u evidence for Eva being the greatest written anime of all time. Mundane things can be overanalyzed to the moon but it usually ends up being the viewer sort of writing fanfiction and projecting it onto to show, since it's not grounded in much it can't really be disproven.
If you still care the best rip can be found on nyaa.si, just search for it and sort by most seeders.
>You don't think your father would order us to do this as a sync exercise? Are you calling me a liar, Third!? Now hold me tighter, it says you have to on these official Nerv orders handwritten on a piece of binder paper.
Yeah, I always saw that more of her pining over him as a way to validate herself as an adult, which leads into her defense mechanism.
Either way, she wanted both Kaji's chad donger and Shinji's toothpick. She even was the one to start off the advances on Shinji multiple times in the show so I can definitely see her initiating. She'd do it behind some pretense to hide her embarrassment though.
When did she ever initiate anything with Shinji besides the kiss?
And even that was because she was thinking about Kaji
>Rei is vegan
ANNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I think the flawed characters are what critics take away from it when they call it deep. Few anime give their characters the same psychological depth as eva.
Then watch fucking is. Whats more deep than this man
'Accidentally' falling asleep in his bed
Leaving chad behind at the amusement park for him
That whole sexualization in front of him at the pool
Opening up to Shinji about her relation with her step mother, which she apparently never tells anybody else
>And even that was because she was thinking about Kaji
Partly true most likely, but I don't think it's the whole story. She was lonely and starved for affection and latched onto her only peer and co-pilot that also just so happened to cook for her like a mother.
Of course, she also hated him in a way since not only does he '''reject''' her attempts at forming a relationship but he also surpasses her on her only pillar of self worth, piloting, and his meekness and openness at running away from reality reminds her of herself subconsciously. Shinji is like the 'shadow' of Asuka's personality that she hides away deep down.
If Eva isn’t deep to you than what anime is man, hell not even anime, what piece of media is as deep of more deep than Eva
>Once you've seen EoE and have an undeniably final ending, you may come to appreciate 25/26, the best pleb filters in anime.
25/26 were of a character study which was the series' strong point, EoE was the more contrived SEELE plot. If you like 25/26 you are unequivocally based and redpilled.
>'Accidentally' falling asleep
Where's the proof that it wasn't an accident? If it was she wouldn't be crying about her mom.
>leaving chad
When was it said the guy was a chad? He was begging Hikari to meet Asuka, that's not chad behavior, he could have been a total loser.
>That whole sexualization
I wouldn't call it initiating anything, but okay
>Opening up to Shinji about her relation with her step mother, which she apparently never tells anybody else
She seemed pretty fine with Misato knowing her situation at the onsen and she opens up to Hikari later on, too.
>that also just so happened to cook for her like a mother.
What? When the fuck is this ever said? You're mixing in fanwank into the show. This is never implied at all and you know it.
The angels win.
If you still care. You should get all your anime from nyaa.si
She dislikes meat and she brings it up once. If it wasn't Rei, it would be believable she was making an excuse to not eat with Asuka.
>no human being would ever do something like that
I probably would. I liked Eva because I related to shinji, I saw him as me when I was in high school, the depression, the self hate, the social awkwardness and anxiety, the adolescent hornyness brought out in the masturbation scene. You probably don’t like Eva because you can’t relate to any of the characters or themes but most of the people here can.
>Where's the proof that it wasn't an accident? If it was she wouldn't be crying about her mom.
She just took a piss and flushed the toilet so I'd assume she is somewhat conscious of her actions. it's also shown that she was crying alone in her room after shutting herself away from Shinji because she was lonely and wanted him to hold her.
>When was it said the guy was a chad? He was begging Hikari to meet Asuka, that's not chad behavior, he could have been a total loser.
They literally say he's a hunk. Either way the reason she left is because he is 'boring'. Shinji wasn't exactly a catch neither
>I wouldn't call it initiating anything, but okay
Point being she was vying for his attention
>She seemed pretty fine with Misato knowing her situation at the onsen and she opens up to Hikari later on, too.
She never directly told Misato. Pretty sure she never mentioned anything about her step-mom to Hikari neither.
>What? When the fuck is this ever said? You're mixing in fanwank into the show. This is never implied at all and you know it.
If you based Eva on things that were actually 'said' then you probably didn't get a lot of it. Are you really going to tell me that Shinji didn't cook meals for her, and that act in itself is pretty maternal? The whole 'cooking' for her wasn't even an important point in what I was trying to get through.
Also interesting is that she wore Misato's yellow top and was trying to put on her lavender perfume the whole day. Make of that what you will
Rei would actually develop more as a character once rei 3 comes
Based
Can someone tell me how I can get my hands on the rebuild movies?
What the fuck is this from
Amazon or nyaa.si
watch EOE then come back.
yui was a secret furry
Anima
>not being able to go to the track and put your money on "Gendo's Pride" to win
Sucks not living in Japan
anima was the one with the wolf and centaur evas
>Hey guys it's Digibro! Can you name an anime deeper than Evangelion? Here's a tip: you can't.
Texhnolyze
Berserk
Lain
This list could go on forever honestly. There's so many other anime that do a much better job at exploring their own themes than Evangelion does. Evangelion is "babbies first deep anime" and many people just refuse to accept that.
This desu.
What kind of a retarded question was that, OP?
Don't put words in my mouth, I didn't call it deep. Learn to read and don't misrepresent people. Time waster.
EVA hit a note with the Japanese people that no piece of media has for decades and anime/manga/videogames from japan changed in style drastically following the blow up of the series - dead sections of tokyo were brought to life because people desperately wanted to buy anything related to EVA. They play the intro song on the fucking trains for god sakes - even on the non EVA decaled trains.
Don't try and convince me dragon ball or one piece is more influential. One piece takes heavily from dragon ball for one, dragon ball drew heavily from sun wukong live action series such as Monkey Magic and Journey to the west. Dragonball wasn't groundbreaking - the ground was already set for it to be successful - it's tropes already established by the LA shows in the 70s.
The only thing I'm "projecting" (nice 90's psychology buzzword fellow intellectual) is EVA's massive popularity, which yes the creators probably did not foresee.
>Anime
>Berserk
CLANG
CLANG
CLANG
1997 of course.
they probably 17. 97 is too old for them.
ah i see
still id rather read the manga but yes 1997 berserk is pretty alright
>>Berserk
I'm a big fan of berserk, I like it more than EVA. Berserk is groundbreaking and well written and drawn but I wouldn't say it's deep - most of the information we receive about the world is when it's being simply explained to guts. and I think there comes a point in the story when it's just impossible to relate to guts to be honest. There's his desire to restore Caska's memory, but other than that I find it really hard to relate to guts.
So to you being deep means the characters are more relatable? That's kinda silly if I'm being honest.
the manga is better, read that instead
it's hilarious that people find NGE to be "deep" when it basically stops in its tracks at the last 2 episodes so it can directly say what its message is
It's a great anime, the drawings and the animation are beautiful, its message is the most important one and I'd even say it's a masterpiece but it's not really that "deep".
Of course an animefag that only watches waifu garbage or shounen trash and never even opened a book in his life NGE is probably the highest form of thought he will ever experience.
I feel like the problem is “deep” is the wrong word to describe how Eva is.
it's one of those words that people use so they can feel superior without really saying anything at all
Iv heard Lain is a bit of a mind fuck but I have never seen it
