Yo, I've been running the old Inuyasha anime as background noise the past few days. I don't know about the manga, but Inuyasha settle for Kagome straight up in the anime lol. Not the biggest Kagome fan, but that shit got rough every time Kikyo appeared. Also, Sesshomaru is best boy and Sango was bae.

I found it strange that Kohaku asked that of Inuyasha and not Miroku.
I guess that if Kohaku died Inuyasha would have felt obliged to follow with his wish and take care of her, but that would also literally mean devote his life to keeping her safe. Imagine.

The problem with Sesshomaru is that he was supposed to be a badass demon but then he got cucked out of his arm by inuyasha and took a back seat to a hobo bugman thief fusion guy. I find both Kikyo and Sesshomaru to suffer from this same problem.
Kikyo was also backseated into being part of the retarded love triangle instead of actually fucking Naraku up like you'd expect an actually powerful character to do.
Sadly, they both couldn't outshine the main couple, that's the reason.

Naraku could have worked better, if he wasn't omnipresent for like 90% of the episodes. Him showing up "personally" in the earlier parts diluted his "evil mastermind" aura.

Kikyo was best girl though.

Band of 7 arc was easily the peak of the series, not only because the villains (Especially Bankotsu and Suikotsu) were absolutely based, but also because it introduced actual interesting and deep themes which finally allowed characters with depth like Kikyo to get some screetime.
Too bad they were introduced so late and died focusing only on Inuyasha and the gang instead of betraying Naraku and helping take him down.

She’s completely focused on defeating Naraku. She knows deep down she and Inuyasha can never be a couple again because she’s a zombie, but she can’t help but feel resentful toward Kagome, this even if she is her reincarnation.

The main villain was the Jewel. That was the twist.

She’s just a human with a giant boomerang and no spiritual or demon powers. She does eventually get the poison upgrade for Hiraokotsu that manages to drive Naraku back I think like once, but most people don’t remember that as it was in Kanketsu-hen.

A somewhat stronger than usual, well trained human, but true. Had a mostly useless weapon and a last resort katana (or some fictional ninjato garbage). Some manner of sensory numbing pellets (at least for smell aside from smoke utility of another). Poison powder.

Might have poisoned her hidden blade along with her sword, but perhaps this was an overlooked option in her case (aside from being wise to have many types of poison for different effects...and cures for if and when her mask came off since she apparently didn't train her resistances).

The upgraded main weapon clears miasma and other negative symptoms of demonic presence (would have been pretty handy early on) while also negating even Naraku's regeneration where struck (a lesser version of what Sesshomaru would soon be able to do with his weapon). It gives off a demonic aura for what that is worth (maybe in the past when it meant something, Inuyasha could have used this for some of his special moves in team attacks or something).

Iron chain from the made-up weapon Kusarigama (her brother had the full thing). Talk exists of demon slaying techniques, but it isn't like we ever really see any (not even via a few special techniques for her weapons). Well, other than just tossing her ungodly huge boomerang.

A powerful ally in Kirara (nekomata) that gives her a means to fly aside from a giant demon cat to help in combat (though it wasn't given armor or meaningfully used most of the time). Transforming to a small thing gives it a way to hide itself (and be cute), but not must other utility I can think of. Forget if they could communicate with each other.

All this said, you're right. Ultimately it just isn't made to be enough (even as support oftentimes). It isn't like she suddenly learns ninja magic to augment herself be it taijutsu, genjutsu, ninjitsu or whatever, which might have been a great thing for her (find some other ninja village/master, study under him for a bit away from the team, etc.). Spiritual powers would be pushing it (overlapping too much with Kagome and Kikyo). Demon power from her pet and weapon should suffice though it might have been something if she could buff herself somehow (not suggesting a catgirl fusion or half-demon combo with her purified bone projectile, but both are options to consider).

Guess that would bring us back to the Yoruichi talk from earlier though I don't know that Kirara's physical traits make for quite the same slick cat look/scheme. Also, we're talking multi-tails here as per the nature of her companion.

Being able to use demonic nature of Kirara (shared somehow) and maybe her weapon's demonic spirits (that it is made from and later absorbs) could lend her some supernatural power. Maybe something more like the bakemono or even Byakko. Having flight is a neat advantage to have (not needing to rely on another for this ability).

If the latter, just going the Yu Yu Hakusho route gives her infinite use of projectiles spit out (largely with the same effect as her main weapon when it hits things) and absorbing spirtual/demonic energy to become stronger (like her weapon is made to do). Seems to line up well, just needs a decent explanation for how she is able to become the hand-to-hand type (presumably resisting her own poisons and numbing tools, but using them more freely including claws that can afflict).

Sadly, no real examples of this that I could (quickly) find.
