If by "they" you mean Toei, they really weren't. Outside of the initial parallel of sun and moon and that one single shot, there's nothing. They barely even share any scenes or exchange any dialogue without the other girls present too. Even in the one single instance of them takling alone that I can remember, they were talking about Hikaru in a Madoka/Hikaru episode. Not exactly what I'd call pushing Madoka and Elena.
I guess there's also Miracle Universe, but that movie feels like it was written by someone who had nothing to go on but a one-page preview of Star Twinkle they read in a magazine. It felt like they were put together by default, since they were making three groups and Hikaru and Lala are obviously the primary candidates to fly solo out of the Twinkles since they're the "main" Cures.

They were grouped together with the other hot couples in the movie though.

Nah after the episode with her brother people were already talking about how she got upstaged by Lala. Even as soon as the dog planet episode, Hikaru and Plonk's parts were the real standouts

I still think Elena's best episode was the Yuni one where Elena outruns turrets. It didn't have a lot of Elena, but at least she got to cool for the parts she had.

That was probably her worst episode. All she did was outrun the turrets. They took a Blue Cat episode and threw in Elena's pen as an afterthought.

probably more accurate that she was created as an experimental cure with the whole mexican thing and when that bombed with the kids and she shelfwarmed the writers stopped caring, but didn't give her enough of a personality beyond "has a big family and likes smiles" beforehand so they don't know what to do with her now and just kinda hope nobody notices how irrelevant she is.

I assume it's just because in the first couple episodes, user ignored it entirely except when she said just "lun" (and when she did that it was as an affirmative). You can tell if you rewatch some of the earlier episodes, because it was subbed as "yeah" just as often as "yep". But then they and made other characters comment on it (as they obviously would), so there was no avoiding giving it a 1:1 equivalent anymore.

What seasons have you seen? I think that Hugtto is good too, but there are some seasons that I enjoyed more.

Everything except KiraKira, Hugotto and second half if Maho. Because shit place called 'real life" And I haven't seen movies after they removed old cures. I'm watching it since Suite that I've seen by accident. 8 years already.

I thought the core 3 never felt like friends, which sunk the show's chances at greatness.

I think Hana and Homare had the weakest friendship, but Hana and Saaya had plenty of moments, and during some of homare's episodes Saaya was there to check on her

I'd agree that they don't, but rather than that itself being the problem it's sort of an extension of the wider problem that no one in the show feels "real" (I know it's a cartoon, note the air quotes). They don't act in consistent or believable ways, they don't seem to be guided by internal motivations. They come off as action figures being flailed around by the staff as required for the given episode. Hugtto isn't the only season where that's a problem, but most seasons have it happen only ocassionally in "filler" episodes or only to one or two Cures. Hugtto has it even in major episodes and with more or less the whole team, possibly sans Emiru.

I can't imagine why you would think that, it's been going good so far. Madoka has been great and even Elena has had some nice moments.

Madoka is good by herself, but not by her interaction with the rest of the cast. She'd work well as a rival Cure or something, arguably even better than Uni (if you consider Uni a rival)

It's not like it's actually any harder to draw Sherbet Ballet than it is to draw Cure Princess, but we never got anything like that shot where Hime jumps through the card Decade / Blade style. I think modding any number of existing games to be precure games is possible but you still need resources for alllllllll those characters, the 3d models or sprites or whatever. Sounds would have to be all free stuff or original knockoffs maybe, but then again lots of effort to make a bunch of shit that sounds kind of like that seasons theme or whatever.

I think the more accessible type of game that a fan could make would be a dungeon crawler, you need very few animations (mostly just still images), I would love to pick my team of favorite Cures and beat monsters on randomly generated floor, they could all have different skill-trees and passive-skills, which would make for a lot of strategies.
The common monsters could be the Zakenna-type creatures, the bosses could be a couple of generals, there's a lot of fun ideas that you could explore really.

Precure versions of sny other game are cool for me, but I wonder what existing game is most like the precure seasons already to be easily modded into something like a precure season. Some kind of 3d adventure platformer with branching dialogue routes that make you play a good guy to win and you lose if you do unprecure stuff. I'm thinking one of the Mario games or like a really heavy modded fallout

there's really nothing in the way of good magical girl games, unless you like janky SNES fighters based on sailor moon. best setup to rip off would be the persona series; half the game is a slice of life where you go around creating bonds with the people in town and the other half is you and your friends with secret powers saving the world. would probably translate to Heartcatch the best just due to the way the dungeons are structured around specific people's shadows but you could easily change that up or even replace the dungeon-based RPG section with something more action-y.

But they throw it all away.
