Which combat? All I remember is Coral sea being a tossup and then they were either without their airgroup or served as cannon fodder afterwards. Also, during Midway, while the IJN did have more carriers, the US had more planes at their disposal, so the IJN being significantly more powerful at Midway is misleading, since the key forces that did battle were almost evenly matched. You could even say US had a advantage there in pure aircraft numbers.
The skins keep getting better and better. I can't wait for whatever kind of mindblowing new skin they'll have for Richelieu when they roll her out. The recent Dunkerque one with the casual white outfit is just so pretty.
The US air groups sans Yorktown were fucking noobs at Midway. Hornet's planes might as well have not existed. The Midway group's only contribution was convincing Nagumo he needed to hit the island again. Hell, Enterprise's pilots would have accomplished nothing had the Nautilus not made an attempt on Kirishima. Only Yorktown's planes were truly effective that day, and did not rely on luck or happenstance to get results.
Shokaku and Zuikaku's air groups were not "cannon fodder" any more than any other Japanese air unit, in the sense that they were under constant attrition from fighting a relentless American air campaign they had no chance of succeeding against.
