Why is sc/a/n so autistic about digital raw quality? You literally won't notice a difference unless you zoom in at like 2000% and squint real hard.

It's the opposite actually. HQ scans look much better after you downscale them, so that's why everyone wants at least a starting of about 2000px*1200px

Because reading scans smaller than x1600 is annoying as fuck and ruined screentones give me eyecancer.
Not to mention using jpeg for clean grayscale images is beyond retarded.

Why even bother downscaling when it actually results in larger filesizes than if you had kept it at 600dpi with only two colors? Isn't this just a holdover from an earlier era? For instance, the original 300dpi version of this image is 2.3MB.

Yesterday I saw a digital version of a doujinshi with pages like this but saved as jpeg. Reducing to black and white and saving to png reduced the filesize from 9MiB to 500KiB.
Why are nips so fucking retarded with stuff like this.

I gave a try to typestting using Indesign.
Once you set up all the fonts you need and get the hang of it, it's WAY faster than using photoshop.

My phone has a bigger resolution than my PC and it's vertical, so it's actually the only device I can appreciate high-res scans on.

How so? What makes it faster?

Character, paragraph and object styles. You set up the fonts you use with their respective sizes, leading and other attributes you may need (like stroke, color). Put it to center the paragraphs and center the text in objects (bubbles).
Once you have all that ready you can prepare every bubble in advance without the need to put text, change the font of many bubbles at once, etc.
Every page is also visible so it saves time that you don't have to hide or show layers/folders.

Cause I have to redraw the fucking thing and screentones on lower quality raws tend to be not uniform and are extremely annoying to work with.

I wonder why having more than two colors takes up more space? It's almost like there's more data that needs to be stored.... I'm glad that even recent releases emulate the styles of the early 90's so that even complex shading details can be rendered accurately with only two colors.

Yep, I'll comfortably browse my non-resized 12,000px tall manga because it saves me 10KB over a 3000px image with more than two colors. A marginally complex shaded image at 600 DPI is still clocking in at around 1.2 MB saved with two indexed colors; this is very much a case of diminishing returns.

You're missing the point. Yes, saving images as purely B/W is an incredible size saving technique, however, it's entirely lackluster on anything remotely complex. Your images you've used as examples are pretty minimalistic and thus, can properly be saved in purely B/W with little to no detail loss. When you get to something like a color page printed in B/W screentones, it's not a feasible technique because the resolution at which you would need to scan the page, and have no detail loss, will inevitably bloat the file size more than just dealing with the color bloat.

It's a 4-koma series that runs in Weekly Shonen Magazine. Most of the chapters are only 4-5 pages long. I know chapters get posted on their Magazine Pocket website/app thing. I think I remember seeing the raws somewhere a while ago

Thank you for providing an actual counterargument. The rule of thumb should be as high a resolution as possible at as few colors as possible, according to the releaser's discretion; no size will fit all. Pic related is what modern manga tend to look like.

Leveling takes seconds at best because you can automate pretty much the whole process.

It's a bit of a different and interesting concept. Was planning to TL it but too lazy to typeset and redraw it with the other projects I already have going on, and it's hard to find an editor that actually knows what they're doing.
