I hate that japanimation is becoming more mainstream but i'm sure that sooner or later that trend will die off.
It sure feels like September in here.
Just kidding, but everyone can always use a little brush-up on their netiquette. There are plenty of great resources on the FAQ and INFO lists.

It's all kawaii uguu shit like Tenchi Muyou and Sailor Moon now.
I blame Project A-ko and Gunbuster for killing anime.
Fuck moeshit.

In 2005 all animation will be done by computer and it will look so much nicer than the current hand-drawn stuff with its unavoidable limited detail and human error.

Give it about 5 years, if we are being more realistic. By 2000 the standards for animation are going to be amazing.
We'll probably get shows that are on the level of Akira.
He had to be young at some point I guess.

The Venice ftp is an amazing new archive of every anime gif there is, all in one place instead of dialing into random BBS. It's on the Internet and you will need an ftp client however (I have an academic unix account):

It won't be long before JoJo gets an anime, too.

I got into anime in the mid-90s and it was a great time to be a fan. Forums had good discussion with minimal shitposting and it was possible to make actual offline friends from people I met online. Hardly anything was translated, so that meant I had to learn Japanese for myself, but that effort paid off in time.
Yeah, and if you were at a university/business you could access Usenet and use the pre web Internet to talk on rec.arts.anime usenet group (the archives of which are full of period chat).

The Venice anime FTP, originally at the long defunct venice.mps.ohio-state.edu, was started in the early 90s (1992 or before) as a repository of anime media online. These images came from varied sources, some scanned or captured years before venice on archaic digitization hardware (thus some are black and white from like 1988).
SUNET in Sweden was a contemporary old academic ftp that mirrored a copy of Venice at some point ages ago, and they kept it online in some back room up into modern times until another group again mirrored all of SUNET ftp including the Venice mirror.
It's the oldest survivor of anime fandom online, saved by fortunate circumstance.

Near as I can tell, it's unique. Some other remnants of that era are on archive.org I recall, but that's mostly web era crawls.
There is an Urusei Yatsura mailing list archive preserved on Venice that's so old that new UY episodes were still coming out when people were talking on the list (1986). That UY ML was hosted on a DEC Decsystem mainframe like this that some guy had running in his home. That's an archive within an archive.

Hi
I got LDs (URUSEI YATSURA, 1,2,3) on Sunday and asked Yaski to
send them to you, which he had already done.
I hope you get the disks without any problem soon.
I have checked them and they all looks fairly nice. (Of course,
there may be problems left which I have overlooked.)
I have bought about ten Laser Disks so far(most of them are music
disks), and none of them were defective. But, while I bought the
disks at a shop, two men asked the clark to change their disks because they
were defective. I think their standards are much severer than mine,
but disks may have troubles. Generally speaking, animation fans are
said to be very strict with the quality. And as you are the one of them,
you may find the problems. In such a case, please bring the disk with
you when you come to Japan. I will ahve them replaced.
Anyway, as the programs are from TV series, the quality of picture
and sounds may be poorer (compared with movies). But, I just found
them very interesting. Actually, this is the first time I saw URUSEI
YATSURA on TV. I am reading commics of it every week, and they are
surely interesting.
(cont, archive is at ftp.acc.umu.se
I remember reading "MACHI NI SEKIYU NO AME GA FURU (No.2)" on
the magazine for about 8 years ago. RUMIKO TAKAHASHI appeared on
the magazine suddenly and she wrote URUSEI YATSURA in ten succeeding
weeks. (They were her first commics on commercial magazines.)
There were very interesting. After a short break, URUSEI YATSURA
began to appear on the magazine regularly.
Yes, it was a good story.
No.76 is a very famous story. I have heard about it but had never
seen it.
Anyway, I have forgotten the time. When I came to my senses watching
URUSEI YATSURA, I noticed that I had spent 5 hours.
But it worthed the time.

I see, even in 1986 there were already qualityfags.

>Computers can barely even run the internet
What's this internet you speak of? New game?
A great resource is the surviving Technogirls page. They did Oniisama-e starting in the 90s VHS era, but were never able to finish. Amazingly, even after anime Sols officially released subbed DVD of the whole thing, they reared back to life in the 2010s and finished their original sub of the whole thing.

Sounds like a joke but Minky Momo really was a huge hit with pedos and next year's popular magical girl anime Creamy Mami was made with them in mind
Dumb question, but how am I supposed to open some of these files? Like some of them are in .tv or no extension at all.
Don't you ever post something like that again I swear to God
Detective work, that sort of thing. Sometimes there are oddball extensions for simple textfiles and shit made up on the spot so you need to force an editor or whatever to open them.
Other stuff is highly proprietary like a set of icons make for an ancient Sun Microsystems workstation.
But the movs, .au , and stuff are pretty straightforward.
I recall the line breaks on the UY ML textfiles are odd and need the right editor too.
God, how disgusting

Getting bullied in kindergarten.
Don't remind me.
Sadly fewer and fewer as the years go by. We've already lost the guy who posted the first message to what appears to be the first online venue specifically for anime back in 1986 (anime discussion really was rarefied to academics and researchers like him online back then)

but theres at least a couple dozen that regularly browse Yea Forums, but considering the boards population that's a very small amount.
the availability of anything was so thin the very idea we'd be watching anything that was released in 1992 in japan, in 1992 is extremely laughable
even the most mainstream of things took at least a year or two, and those were being paid for.
Apparently they're making a part 4 for JoJo. Does anyone else think Araki might be stretching out the series by just a bit?

COMPUTER DRAWN ANIME IS THE FUTURE
30 years ago? Not many. 20-25 years might be another story, since the Web started getting big around '93-94.
I got into anime by watching a late-night "Japanimation" block in the mid-90s. Didn't get on the Internet much until I went off to college in '97, though, and my fandom remained pretty casual until after I graduated. Been here since late 2005.
I was on the Internet in 95, very slowly downloading pictures of Ranma 1/2, Gall Force, Gon etc from ftp servers. can't say I was chatting with people about Anime on irc, more transformers and cybering.
>>being almost 40
>>browsing Yea Forums
That nothing for the era we're talking about. I'm the same age as and saw Project A-Ko on the Sci-Fi Channel Saturday Anime in the mid 90s...and I'm a fucking baby next to the old guard. We're talking people who printed zines about Yamato on mimeograph in the early 80s when my generation were still in diapers. Members of the C/FO.
I've seen Amiga demos that look way better than this shit.
I was fapping it to pictures of Plastic Little before your mum was old enough to speak.
What knowledge of JJBA was there in the West in '92. The first half of the OVA wouldn't be out for the year.
Was any significant portion of the manga even tl'd at that point?
>Plastic Little
Man, there's a title I haven't seen mentioned in a long time.
Yang gang reporting in.
It's funny looking at the footage in the movie, it seems they recorded it by pointing a film camera at a computer monitor, as it gets darker towards the edges. I guess they didn't have a good way to print out the animation to film. It's okay animation for the time, but you can also see where they cut corners by removing glass planes, half way through a shot, presumeably to save rendering time. but they didn't go back and render the first part of the shot to match.
See these video covers? Fapped
Damn, this place is neat.

1992 was shit
here is your reference
You're counting stuff that came out in Japan in those years, not what the west was getting in 92. It wasn't like now when you'd get the latest thing a month later, you'd be waiting 2-15 years.
Also not really 92, but a couple years later games like these.
Damn I'd forgot about those things.
>watching anime
Manga is better for the future. The Studios won't be able to afford to keep making anime with that Bubble Burst that just happened.
If any get made they're going to be originals rather than adaptations to get around the cost of licensing.
> Crayon Shin-chan
> Sailor Moon
> Yu Yu Hakusho
> Porco Rosso
I dunno, seems okay to me. Not a tremendous amount of stuff but what is there is pretty fun.
Can't wait to read how the Berserk will end! Hope he won't rush it.
I though Studios were paid for their services by the Production Committee, and they're the ones that decide what Anime gets made.
Just got some guy in Japan to send me a VHS of this and it's totally rad. I can't wait to see how the ending ties everything up.
>you'd be waiting2-15 years.
And then, half of the time, you'd get a shitty dub. In the VHS era, tapes were either dubbed or hard-subbed, not like with DVD where you can switch. It was well into the '00s before we got '90s shows like Sailor Moon, DragonBall Z, and CCS uncut and subbed.
Me in 92 "Wow it's like Cartoons but it's got violence and gore and swearing and tits!"

No. JoJo become a thing probably in the late 90's. After the release of the Fighting game. At least in spic land. Because Jojo's, Darkstalkers and KoF was in every arcade gamecenter.
