That was only at the start of the arc, once Twice cloned himself the MLA was outnumbered.

As many of you are aware, there is an extremely divisive theory that arose from Deku's One for All dream in chapters 193 and 194 that claims Bakugo not only will be a holder of One for All but will become a time traveler in order to do so. This is primarily founded on the admittedly striking similarities between these silhouettes and Bakugo himself. While similarities have been drawn between Kirishima and the other shadowy figure, I will not be defending that part of the theory in this argument. Instead, I plan to demonstrate how this could happen and why it would happen, focusing on the practical ways Bakugo could be a time traveling OFA holder, and the narrative reasoning as to why this development might take place. That said, let’s get to it.

The most important part of making this theory relatively believable is explaining how exactly Bakugo ends up time traveling. Luckily, the answer is rather obvious; a Quirk. It’s been established through Eri’s inclusion in the story that time manipulating quirks are a very real—if rare—possibility in the world of MHA. Because the precedent has already been set, it’s not a far leap to assume that a character can be introduced who possesses a quirk along the same lines as the power Doctor Who’s Weeping Angel's possess, where a single touch can send a person to the past.

This of course raises the question of how a 70 or 80 year old Bakugo is supposed to remain relevant and influence the story even as an ex-OFA holder. Once again the answer is rather obvious; a Quirk—Eri’s, to be exact. It is no coincidence that Eri was introduced into the story as an uncontrolled but powerful quirk user with the ability to rewind people. She could have had any Deus Ex Machina power Hori wanted that would let him have de-quirking bullets introduced to the plot and give Deku his Kaiju battle against Overhaul, but he chose rewind.

Now for the part about Bakugo becoming an inheritor of OFA. The most obvious problem with this is that all subsequent holders don’t have his explosion power, but upon further consideration I don’t think this is a problem at all. Nana Shimura possessed a quirk, and yet the only aspects of One for all we ever see are the power stockpiling All Might uses. It makes sense if you think about it; just look at the original holders, All for One and One for All. The former had the ability to give and take quirks, while the latter only had the power to give quirks. When All for One gave someone a quirk, he had the control to only give them the quirk he wanted to give them; there is nothing to suggest that the same wouldn’t be true for One for All.

The current arc also presents a good opportunity for Bakugo to receive a crash course on the vestiges, as Deku will certainly learn more about them this match and as we saw in chapter 202 he’s very ready to impose himself in Deku and All Might’s conversations as much for their sake as for his. Learning about the vestiges now would mean he might have a chance of tracking them down in the past and convincing one of the previous holders to pass OFA on to him.

So, I’ve established that it is theoretically possible for Bakugo to time travel and almost certainly possible that he could possess One for All without passing on his Explosion quirk, but why would either of these things happen narratively speaking? What purpose would time travel shenanigans serve to the characters or the plot?

The meta reason is balance. Deku and Todoroki are simply more powerful at a base level than Bakugo could ever hope to be. Bakugo possessing and passing on One for All, while cultivating the vestiges like All Might or being rewound to a 3rd-4th generation user of it would allow him to compete with the series’ other powerhouses without being blatantly overpowered himself. Remember, Bakugo, after nearly a decade of training, was barely able to outpace 5%-8% Deku who got to that point after less than a year of training. For him to stay relevant, he will either need inhuman speed and durability (more than he already has, that is) or something to truly even the playing field between him and the 9th holder of One for All.

To the characters themselves however, Bakugo being sent to the past would entail an incredible amount of things. Firstly, his rivalry with Deku would be dramatically enhanced by this development because Bakugo would get a taste of what OFA takes to wield, and understand that Deku has an even more powerful—and more self destructive—version of it. Deku got to experience a bit of Bakugo’s quirk in the Final Exam, when he dislocated his shoulder firing one of Bakugo’s gauntlets, and I think the reverse would help continue to bridge the gap between the two.

Secondly, the nature of how Bakugo gets sent back is bursting with potential development, but I think by far the best way it could go down is to reverse his and Deku’s roles. Assuming my prediction of how Bakugo gets sent back is correct, let’s say Deku and Bakugo are fighting this Weeping Angel villain. Just as the villain is about to lay a hand on Deku, Bakugo throws himself in the way of the blow—and disappears. Just take a second and imagine how that would affect Izuku. We saw how destroyed he was by Bakugo’s capture at the summer training camp, but in this situation Bakugo willingly sacrificed himself for Deku, the kid he grew up hating, the pebble he refused to recognize, the person who was chosen by All Might over him. Izuku would be simultaneously heartbroken and furious, and would certainly destroy the villain in short order. More importantly however, this reversal would be the final step in Bakugo’s journey to becoming a hero and the action most likely to redeem him in the eyes of fans who believe he needs redeeming.
