I don't care about the lolis, I actually like it when both Ai are playing or learning to play, but not because they're lolis, I think char is fucking annoying.
In the anime, Ginko comes off as a violent bitch and wanted to know if it's different in the manga. You're just projecting some kind of desperate lolicon archetype into me.

If that's true I'll change my tune, though I find it hard to believe you. There's just a very strong correlation between "Ginko is a bitch/shit" posters and "Ginko is a hag" posters - that is, there are a lot of desperate lolicons in these threads.

In any case Ginko is more sympathetic when you look at things from her perspective. As a pro player there's a lot on the line for her in every match she plays, and like the quirks of the other players her cold attitude is something of a defense mechanism. As for how she acts toward Yaichi specifically, things are a bit more personal. As "siblings" under the same teacher they spent their childhoods together playing and studying shogi. More than just being close to him, he became an important part of shogi for her - and thus an important part of her life and livelihood. Not to mention she's clearly romantically interested in him. When she loses or falls behind in shogi she feels like her connection with him is falling away and she's losing him. Conversely when he grows distant she feels like she's slipping in shoji. The two are so connected in her mind that she feels like she's losing everything, and when you think about how much of her is invested in those two you realize she kind of is. Also she's a classic tsundere. I think that's plenty of justification for everything except the more extreme slapstick, but I think comedy is exempt from the normal rules about this stuff.

And, just as a note, she also spends a lot of the show being extremely supportive, and while she asks a lot from him she's willing to give quite a lot in turn. This is all from the show - I have no idea how much the novels expand on this (I've only read the first one so far and there are no good copies of the others floating around).

I watched that entire anime in a single sitting just because the loli content was so good.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the shogi matches were actually pretty engaging. Considering I expected nothing more than a trashy lolibait show going in I was pleasantly surprised by how well the other parts of the show were handled.

The lolis are boring and when they were on screen I wanted nothing more that than the show to move on to the other characters, the older girl that couldn't move up in ranks was more interesting.

Ginko was nothing but an annoying shitcunt no matter how desperate ginkofags mental gymnasts sperg about it.

I can't exactly use myself as proof that this is untrue but I can definitely say that the lolis weren't what I enjoyed most from the show once I actually watched it.

I don't think they were boring but the older players were all definitely more interesting. Ginko, Yaichi, and the onee-san all had more going on - actual arcs and shit, whereas the Ai spent most of the time being silly distractions.
