I'm on episode forty-something, and while I enjoyed the first arc, it lost a lot of steam until Kurapika came back. Frankly I find Gon and Killua very boring together. At least Leorio is back with them to make their interactions less one-note.

I had this same issue but it does get better with the two of them. I think Heaven's Arena was just a boring arc. The arc following the current one you're on is more of a fun adventure arc again.

Didn't find it boring but it introduced the nen mechanics which was exposition-heavy so I can see why people who want action will be bored.

during the greed island arc i started pacing around my room wanting to strangle genthru whenever he showed up!

The characters are my favourite thing about Hunter x Hunter and I thought the supporting characters were weaker compared to other arcs in the series. Hisoka's involvement was great but the others didn't interest me much.

I think my problem with that segment was less the lack of action as it was Gon and Killua only needing to grow physically stronger while remaining mostly static as characters. This isn't helped by how little they struggle to learn nen despite all the time spent on the arc. Hisoka was still a highlight.
