TBS just aired a Kyoani news piece. Yasuhiro Takemoto is still missing. He does not pick up the calls from his wife. user posted an interview from his father www3.nhk.or.jp/lnews/kyoto/20190722/2010004080.html
>武本さんの父親は「ニュースで京都アニメーションが火事だと知って、心配していましたが、最近は出張も多かったので、現場にいなかったらいいなと思っていました。 "I learned about the fire at Kyoani, and got worried, but, since these days he'd often be on business trips, I thought "oh it'd be good if he wasn't at the office."
>しかし、息子の妻から『いくら携帯電話に連絡してもつながらない』と聞き、絶望的な気持ちになりました」と話していました。 "But, I heard from my son's wife (Takemoto's wife) that no matter how many times she tried to contact him, he wouldn't answer. Upon hearing this, my heart sunk in despair."
>76歳の父親は「事件の前に時間が戻ってほしい」と息子への思いを語りました。 "I want to turn back time from before the accident happened..." 76y old Takemoto's father told us."
>父親は「招待券を送ってくれた映画はすべて見に行きました。優しい性格の息子です。私にとってはできすぎた息子です」と話していました。 "Takemoto would always send us tickets for the movies he made, and we would always go see them. My son was really kind. To me, he was really a more-than-perfect son."
>そのうえで、「犯人に対してどうこう思う気持ちよりも、いまはできるなら事件の前に時間が戻ってほしい、ただそれだけです」と涙ながらに話していました。 "Rather than asking myself on how and what to think of the murderer... right now, I just wish I could rewind time back from before the accident. This is all I wish...", Takemoto's father told us, crying.
Some of the bodies are burned beyond recognition. They couldn't even identify the sex of one.
Jonathan Murphy
Yamakan is the real culprit and he went to the crime scene for reasons.
Benjamin Green
All of the charboiled bodies are pending completion of DNA results and notification of next of kin at this point. Maybe some of the employees don't even have kin who are in close contact and the morgue needs someone to take responsibility for the body.
Carson Edwards
Maybe he managed to escape but died elsewhere from injury?
Mason Jenkins
I don't even know who this guy is but I hope he's fine
Tyler Jenkins
Did anyone watch this NHK special? "May the Treasure of Japan Come Back to Life: Kyoto Animation, a Circle of Support Around the World"
God, that's fucking awful. Knowing that your son is probably nothing more than some hideous burnt piece of flesh, but still having the hope that he's actually just missing. Hope the lab can quickly figure the identities of the remaining bodies out.
They died from CO poisoning but the fire reached there and burned the bodies beyond recognition.
Kevin Garcia
Grandpa Ono is also heartbreaking. Is unfair.
Gavin Brooks
Director of Lucky Star, Hyoka, Amagi, Maidragon, co-director of Disappearance of Haruhi
Luke Bell
I proclaim this the new main kyoani thread
Lincoln Cruz
Don’t give me that look
Nathaniel Gutierrez
Fuck, didn’t know that.
Jaxon Phillips
Riddle me this.
If you have 10 people missing and 10 unidentified bodies then what do you think happened to the missing people? Honestly calling them missing is being disingenuous at this point. Just say presumed dead.
Sachie lived by herself in an apartment. A long-time friend from Tokyo became concerned for her well-being after hearing about the fire and went to visit her apartment, where no one answered. She waited in the lobby and started writing a letter to Sachie, sobbing the entire time, and passed the finished letter to Sachie's father. The father has now collected 14 such letters. It doesn't appear Sachie was married.

But what if a random person jumped through the window and died and at the same time the kyoani employee jumped out, ran away and broke his leg in a bush where he lies for 4 days now?? Stop being entitled! Let the police investigate this! Come back for results in early 2020, gaijin!
Lucas Bailey
Ya-kun, denwa! Ya-kun, denwa! Ya-kun, denwa!
Luis Reed
Watching the news for this thing is a fucking nightmare. My mind is still rejecting it. Same for that rumor about Kigami.
Bentley Lee
How much would you pay for the body? I'm asking for a friend.
Nicholas Rogers
And it keeps getting worse...
;_;
Isaiah Brooks
Can we all just agree that he's dead? Everything else is just technicisms. Good night sweet child
Historianfag here, the accounts from the eyewitnesses read eerily like those of the Hiroshima bombing; the one about someone being burned into the glass really hit me hard
Cameron Murphy
>Some people remain unaccounted for. One of them is Sachie Tsuda. She's worked for Kyoto Animation for about 20 years.
>Her father says police told him it will take at least a week to get the results of a DNA analysis.
>He said, "At one point, I tried to imagine what my daughter was going through. But I stopped when I realized she wasn't coming back. I don't know if I didn't want to think about it or if I wasn't able to. But the bottom line is nothing was on my mind anymore."
Noah Murphy
Was it an actual special like 30 minutes or is just a short segment?
Gabriel Torres
The only positive thing I've seen come out from this situation is the amount of support from everyone Sentai better provide proof of donation however
He got isekaied in last second and now is making anime in a fantasy world.
Samuel Flores
It is illegal in Japan for a news outlet to declare someone dead unless they can prove a doctor said so
Kayden Moore
ah that was my mistake, I thought you were talking about the perpetrator.
Colton Ramirez
Are you retarded? They sell to newspapers, that's what they do. Are you really going to shame professional photographers for selling their photos? Most of what they take photos of are tragedies, check your news to see how much of it is fluffy.
Carter Walker

Early on there were photos of a guy wearing shreds of clothing because they had burned off
Its also worth noting when the atomic bomb went off in Hiroshima, the residents and experts thought it was originally some kind of fuel-air bomb

They shouldn't have plagiarized Bansaku.

>spoiler That's why I'm passing on the Sentai fundraiser as legit as it seems for now. I'd rather donate to Animate store physically in Japan because even if they have to spend a portion of it on bureaucracy, it's planned and in coordination with KyoAni and Japanese law, and the Japanese fans would be up in arms if they find it inappropriate. I feel like there's no reproach if Sentai misappropriates the funds state-side.
Ethan White
I refuse to believe this guy is gone. He was my favorite KyoAni director next to Yamada, and him just getting burnt down beyond recognition is just too fucked up to handle God I'm so fucking pissed, but as long as he's not confirmed dead I can still hope
I just fapped and read this with my peepee out. Feels bad
James Clark
I don't have an issue with learning about his name and motives, but it just seems unnecessary to detail his entire life story. It takes away from the victims.
Austin Watson
You can go tell sam hyde that he can go fuck himself.
Nolan Price
They better donate these absurd proceeds.
Gabriel Roberts
Well we know nothing about the victims, so police made sure the only thing news can talk about is the perp
Zachary Roberts
Getty Images photographers on the spot, obviously. You can't monetize pictures that isn't yours.

Michael Cooper
I just read what that other user wrote about these fuckers.
Are you saying that these bastards are widely known for their scummy practices and they still exist?
Hell, they even stole the pic of Yamakan crying from that Taiwanese web page news and claimed it as their own.
Would you not also be curious to find out if the man who killed your loved ones was truly a monster all his life?
Camden Cruz
i know that feel...
Benjamin Davis
Most of these photos are stolen from other sources.
Jace Morris
He don't think it be. But it do.
Zachary Long
This is why you have a fire extinguisher on each floor of a building.
Dylan Russell
They may be scummy but they're still everywhere and their photos are constantly used. I don't see you point. Go through this gettyimages.fr/editorial-images/news and you'll see photos of tons of tragedies, that's what newspapers pay for, that's what they sell. Nothing wrong with that
You can only imagine how fast the flames spread. Pure agony and fear...
I'm honestly surprised that nobody thought to quickly throw themselves from the balconies. I understand that it's crazy to willingly jump from those heights, but intense heat can almost force you to move against your own volition. It may have caused terrible injuries, but it might have done well to save lives.
I'd like to see you try and put out 40L of ignited gasoline with 3 fire extinguishers
Isaac James
Takemoto's father certainly doesn't care. No knowledge of the culprit's history would bring solace to the fact that their loved ones are gone.
Owen Taylor
To be honest, I started to get interested in anime with KyoAni. That’s it, they left an impression in me, when I was young the first episode of Haruhi blew my mind. Yes, I thought the entire anime was going to be like that. At the end I never really liked Haruhi or Clannad, but for me they were the entry level for anime and manga. While I don’t like Clannad at all, I really remember those days fondly, because back then I was building my own tastes due to those shows that I watched to the end and never liked. The same goes work School Days or Air. I don’t like them but my old self owe them a lot.

On one hand, I wish more information on each of the poor victim can be released so that they can be properly honored and remembered as individuals who had made contributions and/or had their whole lives ahead of them. On the other hand, the wishes and privacy of the victims' families need to be respected.

Read the last entries, days before the fire.
My only solace is that the site was hosted elsewhere, which means maybe not everything was destroyed in the fire.
Aiden Davis
So does that mean he could be alive in the hospital but simply burnt beyond recognition?
Levi Nguyen
There were multiple jumpers from what witnesses said. And then the construction crew nearby grabbed one guy who was hanging on a gutter
Noah Cooper
I seriously hope every production company is breaking their bosses balls for emergency and security installations.
Brandon Gutierrez
There are photos looking inside the building now where it shows the fire extinguishers burned exactly where they were installed. The fire so hot and fast that no one had time to grab them and for some, not even time to escape.
Eli Sanchez
Yeah, on one hand I do want to know about how the situation unfolded.
On the other hand, this information could be used to inspire copycat arsons.

There could be some people badly burned and in a coma in addition to the dead people. Until they're all identified you can't be 100% sure.

Given how fast the fire and smoke came on, they probably only had seconds to see the window and make that snap judgment to jump. Maybe for some, the time it took to decide to jump was too late and their lungs burned before the window could be opened.

being disingenuous is claiming something with CERTAINTY without first doing conclusive investigative work. It's OBVIOUS they are dead but insisting they are "covering something up" by waiting until the investigation is done to announce that outcome is just beyond autism.

Are there any survivors from this disaster who appear to have gotten away from the catastrophe relatively uninjured, or not so intensely? Do photographs of any survivors exist, yet, or even video interviews?
Colton Collins
Don't assume that everyone thinks the same way. Some people would prefer internalizing everything and not air any personal info, even if it's not in your best interest. A good society should accommodate the spectrum.
Lincoln Hall
Seems more like they didn't get the chance to jump, since it's really not that high form the first floor. Getting trapped in dark smoke and losing your orientation is already pretty bad, not to mention that you have a few minutes at best before you die from the gasses.

No one cares about his motivations. Nothing he says can lighten the gravity of what he's done. The only thing that we can wait for now is justice to be served by his succumbing to death or recovering enough to stand trial where he will be found guilty and sentenced to death by immolation.
Jackson Hernandez
They are burned beyond recognition. Maybe for someone like you, intelligent, nihilist and with a wicked sense of humor, there is no need for a process to understand that charred piece of black pitch meat is your kid, maybe you just want to smile and with a smug face say to the press: hey guys that’s my kid, pls make it viral!
Blake Reyes
>Why wouldn't parents want the world to celebrate the work of their children? Yes, why would people not want to be known to be related to a studio that apparently has deadly grudges against them? KyoAni lawyered up and probably told everyone NO INTERVIEWS with any survivors or anyone associated directly with the company.

Are you implying a photo of Miyazaki is not related to anime? Finally, the man is free from the curse
Wyatt Robinson
from an older thread...
www3.nhk.or.jp/news/html/201...999551000.html The ages have been released of the victims. Only one age was listed to be over 60, which would most likely be Yoshiji Kigami. Their ages range from 20 to 61 20s: 15 30s: 11 40s: 6 60s: 1 Another report from earlier stated that Studio 1 was not working on any current projects set to be released in the near future, only pre-production. Studio 1 typically handles pre-production before being handed off to one of the other studio locations, and also serves to train new animators. Any materials at Studio 1 would have been from past shows or pre-production work. A reminder of KyoAni's studio locations; >Studio 1, which is what burned down >Studio 2, rented in the HiShop building on the 3rd floor (Largely responsible for Maid Dragon and adaptation/marketing work) >Studio 5, located by Kohata Station (Hibike and Violet Evergarden) >Animation Do, located in Osaka (They're responsible for animating Free!) Also, there is a story floating around Japanese Twitter that the CGI company KyoAni works with, which is based in Tokyo, keeps back ups of everything they work on. They have been involved with every KyoAni show since 2015, and are involved during all stages of production, instead of just editing and post. The only thing I can find about it seems to be from a NicoNico video about the company when they were doing the Violet Evergarden anime.
Benjamin Martinez
Yes, but they prefer to be out of the public eye.
Dylan Howard
>pertain to Thanks for making yourself easy to spot, idiot crossboarder.

Any word on the condition of the survivors? Would it be wishful thinking to believe most of them won't end up with some long term disability for disfigurement?
Joshua Powell
Nice strawman, but I'm asking for a name, not a photo of the corpse. Fuck you
Henry Cooper
Obviously it won't lighten things up, but we're curious.
Adrian Edwards
is he ok
Charles Reyes
Lel. Turns out a guy by that name is based in Tokyo so its not implausible.
Xavier Martin
Maybe they should tell him no one got actually killed and that they are going to make anime from the script it's (supposedly) his.

I want a horror manga about what happened like junko furuta after some years have passed.

So far: >Hatta also told the press on Saturday that of the 34 injured victims, one victim had to have their legs amputated.
Jaxson Williams
kys
Angel King
The majority of the survivors were located on the first floor, so it's likely that most of them sustained burn wounds. Among the ten that were seriously injured, one later died in the hospital. Hatta stated that one survivor had to have their legs amputated.
It fucking sucks to think about artists who could have been burned to the extent where they may not be able to work on what they love ever again.
Asher Hernandez
The facility where the victims are being treated is also doing all of their surgical procedures for free.
Fuck, if only his/her arms and hands are safe. If only the rest of the body is in better condition... I don’t know what to wish in this case.
Liam Walker
Where are the dead bodies photo dump?
Aaron Wood
I think one has been released from hospital, so they're probably (relatively) OK. Serious burns are probably some of the worst injuries a person can have though, it's probably worse than getting shot for recovery and quality of life.
David Perry
Why Japanese leave water bottles and soft drinks is due to Shinto and because they are strangers.
Immediately after a death (or, in earlier days, just before the expected death), relatives moisten the dying or deceased person's lips with water, a practice known as water of the last moment (末期の水 matsugo-no-mizu)
Symbolically, this last offering of water is the final chance to revive the corpse. Since the dead will no longer drink of the water of the living, this water is both an offering to the deceased and a guarantee that he is truly dead. In addition to providing hope (of revival) and proof (of death), this water is the first in a long series of offerings of food and drink made to the deceased in his new status as an ancestor.
Look up Matsugo no mizu.
These people are strangers so they can't actually wet the deceased lips but as a Substitution, they leave water and soft drinks instead.
America doesn't do this because this is uniquely Shinto. We leave flowers for the dead but this "Water of the Last Moment" is uniquely Japanese but Buddhism has some similar funeral traditions.
I think this whole thing is going to be too traumatizing for the artists unless they’ve got crazy willpower like Shiro Kotobuki did
Evan Murphy
Makes sense then that the NHK meeting was for Denmoku since that's the only one announced. We also assumed Takemoto might take it. Going to be fucking heart breaking if that is the case.
Laying here down some analysis on how many years it would take for them to start producing anime again, if they decided wanting to still go down this path with what they have. Just to get a discussion going.
> - Firstly, they will have to assess the damage to the structural organization. How many key people to the studio have died? - are they from those of the studio committee members etc. If they lost higher ups that are absolutely indispensable to the company, then that could be a huge setback for them or they might reconsider about continuing operation altogether. On the side, they demolishes the studio. Demolishing will take some time, perhaps it's to be finished at the end of 2019 at the earliest > - Secondly, they will to handle legal matters regarding victimized employees (insurance, health, whether that employee decided to continue working or not). This is not adding the hassle of potential lawsuits that might come from the victims (Bear in mind that dead employees can't sue, but the family members might, and that can be trouble because these people have no fondness towards Kyoani as a company). This adds huge amounts of time to recontinuing anime production operations. This could take to 1 or 2 years. Court cases are very lengthy as far as I know. > - Thirdly, the have to review their manpower. Who's left on the team? Do they have to hire new people in to replace ones lost? In order to retain the same production quality, do they have to train them? New people might have to be introduced to how their management and work culture works. If they wanted to go that far, restructuring may take several years, maybe. 1 year for this is not enough.
That's pretty suspicious. I wonder if he's even going to make it out of the hospital alive?
Eli Ward
I thought Kyoani moved studio 2 to the new building together with the Kyoani shop near Kohata station?
Benjamin Nelson
Being handicapped or even having some physical deformity/impediment in Japan fucking SUCKS. Handicap-accessibility for buildings and services are not a part of their laws or cultural awareness. Even in Tokyo, you'd be hard-pressed to find accessible elevators or ways to get around even routine commute. Just think of all those narrow buildings with a tight staircase that is only meant for normal, able-bodied people to use freely. Sure, you can install/buy a place that makes living easier for the handicapped, but usually those are very limited places and expensive. It is horrible, they lost their jobs and ability to do what they love, and it's not even going back done to cashiering jobs tier, it's that they're about to live in a society that shuns and doesn't bother with the handicapped.
Sebastian Hernandez
That too. At least Hatta said that they're going to take measures against the PTSD the victims and their family members are showing.
Tyler White
cont
> - Fourthly, after all that's settled, they still have to find a building to resume their productions on. Either build a new studio, or work in one of the studios intact (like Animation Do). There is still a problem with that. Firstly they've lost their references and character sheets from the fire (along with scripts and storyboards, maybe.) Then, they have the problem of not having pre-production location for their current works. They might be able do pre-productions on backup studios though, though the quality may differ. > - Fifthly, say they wanted to continue the shows they've slated to complete, like Electric Catalog or the Free! sequels. What do they have left to work off on? What reference material do they still have intact. Then there's another hidden problem. At this point in time, they haven't been producing anime in years - The artist or production drawback may set in as they've never hold a pencil in a long time. Will they fuck up? Will they trigger some PTSD from remembering the good old days? How long will it take to finish production? The usual anime production period for other studios takes 3 years to complete from start to finish. Kyoani might have been faster when it comes to that, but that was before the incident. > - And finally, the cost. Will they still be paying their animators with normal wages after all the potential lawsuit settlements, new building, expenses of new equipment, and organization restructuring? They might not be able to promise good pay anymore. Normal studios struggles to do that as is, and Kyoani is starting over. Good wages in the animation industry isn't feasible and never has been. Kyoani might have to cut down costs on equipments, lay off employees, or lower wages.
All that considered, I predict that they might need 4 years to get back on their feet. Or 3 years at best, if somehow everything went right. Feel free to add in your thoughts on what else might happen with the situation.
>Reverse search >File:Burned dead body in RABIA Massacre.jpg Nice try. Anyway I doubt they would look any different than this
Connor Rogers
Does anyone know if there might have been any VAs in the studio for the NHK interview at the time? Four of the Hibike Euphonium VAs haven't posted anything since the incident and there was a new series announced recently and a train collaboration was due to start in a few weeks. It's worrying.

If it's the 20th Century Electric Catalog, Kazumi Ikeda (chief character design for Kanon, Eupho) is listed as the main illustrator and she would've been at the meeting for sure. She is also missing right now.

They say that, platitudes to make it seem like they care, but Japan isn't very good at mental health care. They're backwards in techniques and progress when it comes to how they prevent/treat/view mental health, even compared to the shitshow in the US.

Jacob Rivera
Yes it is. The list of the missing people just line up so perfectly for the next project they're working on. I can also see why Kitanohara would be missing since he's one of KyoAni's mech staff. Judging by the setting of the anime, it will involve mechnical stuff due to the turn of the century kind of setting.
Ryder Allen
No VAs. VAs show up for a few hours at most and leave. Recording is usually a part of post-processing, after animation is well underway and the VAs record while looking at the visuals of what they're doing.

There is an emphasis on trains/light rail in 20th Century Electric Catalog. At least one character in there is a trainfag.

The only person from the company who has spoken to the press, AFAIK, is Hideaki Hatta (the president). I'm not 100% clear on whether he was actually in the building at the time of the fire or not.
We know that there were at least 73 or 74 staff in the building at the time. All but five or ten had injuries of some kind. 34 have died (at least one of those at the hospital a day or two later). Several more had serious injuries, but it's not clear how many because while the number given was 10, that number includes at least one person who later died, and maybe more. At least one reportedly has had to have legs amputated.
Unofficial sources have indicated that directors Tatsuya Ishihara, Naoko Yamada, and Taichi Ishidate are alive, but whether they were injured is unknown.
Cooper Morgan
Yeah but you need fire for the smoke, moron.
Bentley James
He'd have to be burned beyond recognition for the police to have not notified his family by now if that were the case.
How does it take this long to identify the fucking bodies? This case is as high profile as it gets. That should take priority over everything else.
Nathan Stewart
Which is probably what happened with the arsonist as well. Or at least to my untrained eye the informations we have seem to go to that route.
Hudson Morales
>the biggest tragedy in modern Japanese history happened to KyoAni It doesn't feel real.
Angel Lee
What do you want the VA's to say? They're probably scared shitless.
Cameron Foster
Wait fuck I just realized, wasn't amaburi picked up for a second season? If so, shit. So much for that.
Tyler Jackson
Yeah this must be heartbreaking to hear this type of news about your son.
Ayden Hernandez
I posted in another thread that their liability insurance would probably deal with lawsuits as they were in compliance with the fire code, assuming they weren't found to be grossly negligent in other ways.
The big problem would be making payroll if no money is coming in, and they might have to restructure to focus on keeping the lights on through the rights to their existing IP (this could save them as they own them outright instead of working for hire like most studios) rather than creating new productions.
The actual artists will probably move on to other things if KyoAni does this, which would likely mean an end to the studio in its current form.
Easton Baker
One week is what they announced and one week is how long they'll take. Japanese are very good at sticking to the laws and policies.
Colton Gonzalez
It really doesn't.
Julian Robinson
I'm inclined to believe Hatta's words in this case, give that KyoAni was known to treat their employees well. I'm sure they do genuinely care about everyone's mental health.
Unlike how the Japanese media has been stigmatizing the perpetrator mental illness. Maybe he wouldn't have gotten this loony if the country actually had adequate programs to address his problems in the first place.
Dylan Campbell
Pretty much every channel was reporting that early on, it's gonna be hard to find one repeating it again since it's old news by now but that's the reason why they have separate visuals for the jerrycans and the buckets in their 3D models instead of just having a generic container for both. I'll try to find a screen of the two jerrycans waiting outside KyoAni.
Jace Thomas
One things that's reassuring is Hatta said they are doing everything in their power to help victims and their families from developing PTSD.
Christopher Bailey
Wallets and purses likely all burned up.
DNA testing isn't as fast as Hollywood movies.
Teeth are resistant to fire compared to other bones in the body. Likely getting genetic material from the teeth of the deceased.
Possibly asking relatives to contribute DNA to make the pathologist job easier.
Jordan Turner
>another fire thread Dont you fags get bored spamming your garbage?
Yeah, East Asian countries tend to view mental illness as domestic issues, along with domestic abuse/assault, so problems are treated as "the family members will discuss and take care of it" and when was the last time the average person is an expert with treating legit mental illness. "Quiet" diseases like depression, where the victim is unlikely to act out publicly, affect especially hard because they go silent and unnoticed.
Caleb Nelson
They did, their local policies.
David Hill
Hatta likely wasn't in the building at the time. Yamada's safety was confirmed pretty quickly so she probably wasn't either. Ishihara's probably safe, but I'm not as sure about Ishidate given that news came from a third hand source who later retracted their statement, saying that they weren't completely sure.
Mason Gutierrez
To get it started yeah. But the smoke itself has enough heat and energy to cook something to a crisp. When you cook with a barbecue, you don't cook with a flame, you wait until the fire goes out and the charcoals are still smoking. The fire could have stayed on the bottom floor and the heat from the smoke would have been enough to cook them. People act as though the smoke wasn't the worst way to go, but it'd still burn your lungs. Fire is awful.
I'll admit my post was badly worded, though. I realised that after I posted.
Samuel Allen
You'd understand if you've actually cooked instead of microwaving your tendies
And the whole key staff for it just burned. I fucking hate this. I was so looking forward to that show. Learning what the staff could have been and how we might have lost them is just a nightmare.
Jason Smith
Oh no.
Nolan Anderson
In my country we left a cup of water under the casket, it's because we believe that when someone dies so suddenly, maybe is thirsty so with that water he can finally rest in peace .
Julian Howard
VA's don't generally do their work in that building. Most recording is done in Tokyo. The building did house a recording studio, but it was probably mostly used for auditions and supplemental work.
Brody Green
Alright, that's a rare relief in this miserable situation. Thanks.
Justin Turner
I opened my oven few hours ago and I couldn’t handle the heat. Can’t even want to imagine how could have been inside of that building.
Benjamin White
I believe it, too, that people genuinely care and want to help, but the structure or experience just isn't there to back it up. Added to it is the general cultural perception that it's weakness and shameful to seek mental care help may mean even the victims themselves may shy away from getting the help they need. They can bring in foreign help from places where mental health care is more advanced, but chances are the mindset just isn't the same (differences in background) and Nipponese pride will reject them.
Brody Reed
But they were intervewing for something and if it was a showcase, which it could well have been since NHK were coming, it's positive advertising to include some of your prominent stars, which are VAs.
Landon Brooks
I don't know, I think I've seen this sort of thing in a lot of old cowboy movies.
Joseph Brooks
Thanks, user. It doesn't really change much but I was under the impression that that guy used the entire 40 liters. It took only 10 liters to do this? Fucking insane.
Carson Miller
They did and that's a part of the problem. Following the standard isn't enough if the policies do little to protect.
Alexander Scott
There's a reason we put gasoline in cars.
Leo Jackson
it's sad some people can't get over their irrational hate for Kyoani, and appreciate how much effort they always put into their productions
Fuck this shit. I was looking forward to that show so much.
Wasn't the conference room on the 3rd floor? They probably all got asphyxiated trying to reach the roof.
Blake Bell
>even the victims themselves may shy away from getting the help they need Fuck, that's a good point.
Nathaniel Ross
Yeah, that's a good comparison actually. I'm sure most people here, besides the literal children, have opened up an oven and gotten a hot waft of air singe their faces. Or if you've ever gotten close to a bonfire. That's usually no more than 200C (400F). The smoke from the gasoline fire was estimated by someone to possibly have reached around 1000C. Even if that's the fire, the smoke would have been pretty fucking hot too, now imagine that burning hot smoke everywhere from your nose, eyes mouth and skin.
James Young
Giving drink and/or food to the dead is a common practice worldwide, not just in Shinto. The Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico are an example, as is the food buried with ancient Egyptian mummies. Last month there was a murder down the road from where I live (in America), and the memorial for the victim contained drink bottles in addition to the balloons and candles.
Brandon Reyes
Probably between smoke inhalation and the heat double-digit seconds at best. Also you're nearly blind from the smoke which is a combination of tons of stuff burning, including toxic plastics and other shit.
Fire is fucking nasty indoors.
Tyler Cooper
Yeah, that would be my guess about Hatta (I mean, he's mostly focused on the business side of things rather than production, and given his age he may be semi-retired at this point), and you're probably right about Yamada (though it would be somewhat surprising if she weren't there).
I hadn't heard that the source on Ishidate had backtracked. Last I knew, we thought that info was more solid than the info in Ishihara. For my own part, I'm not counting any of them as safe until we get official word, though I would think that if they weren't we'd be seeing the same stuff with them as with Takemoto.
Jeremiah Foster
Fair sorry for my rude response
Jordan Foster
Most seiyuu have stage names.
Ryder Roberts
It's not. If you just act as if it's a big nightmare you'll feel better.
It really sucks, because animation wise, KyoAni was really starting to hit a perfect stride. Everything they made recently looked amazing on another level. It was just a matter of time until they struck gold again.
Ian Brooks
Hatta said he is working with the victims and family to get the emotional support they need (and stop the development of PTSD)
Nathaniel Nguyen
She's the cousin of Honda Mio.
Dominic Wright
No more than a minute, I'd imagine. I'm not an expert, but hocking on that smoke would make you pass out fairly quickly. More so when you consider all the ink and plastic that was burning up and the noxious fumes that would have also come with it.
Right? When I come to Yea Forums, the "big news" I expect to see is the announcement of an original by a studio or staff I like or a veteran releasing a new manga, when someone dies is either of old age or poor health. But suddenly I come in and find out over 30 people died horribly and suddenly, most young and healthy.
VAs may not even been selected yet if the anime isn't slated to air for a while. VAs may seem like the stars and faces of the show, but in reality in Japan, they are counted as a part of the post-processing/miscellaneous costs of animation production. Save for a handful of VAs (which is like the top 1% that you're thinking of), most are not household names and paid pennies for their work. If interviews with them happen, they are used as promos right before a show is about to air, not as a part of production or planning, which are the important backbones of animation.
Robert Thomas
>toxic plastics Some plastics will produce Hydrogen Cyanide (ie Zyklon B) when burned, combined with the fire eating all the oxygen this will kill you fast.
Angel Gomez
It's real. Look at New Zealand.
Bentley Nguyen
DNA takes time.
Dental records could considerably be faster, but they probably don't have up-to-date dental records on everyone given that the state of Japanese dental care is roughly on par with Britain in the 1960s.
Joseph Edwards
true, i never realized just how bad fire was until i was near a bonfire
Josiah Harris
I'm not sure where the conference might be. I lost the floor plan information. Based on the Koe no Katachi special, the first floor seems to had computers for digital coloring.
Oliver Wilson
No worries, user. It's fine, it happens to us all at some point or another. We're only human.
This is one of my favourite gifs to show the work that goes into basic things. Now imagine that for most of a show. KyoAni really did put a lot of work into their production.
I dunno, even in 'murrica you've got a lot of folks refusing to seek treatment. Granted, it's mainly from uneducated people that are insistent that nothing is wrong with them or their child.
I hope they find him. All the recent news about KyoAni has been so depressing. If he is alive then at least there will be some good news.
Cooper Morgan
Even then, popular VA's are usually working on several jobs at once and rarely have the time in their schedules to travel to Kyoto, so they would more likely have been interviewed separately in Tokyo.
Nolan Gomez
biggest manmade tragedy.
Not that it really makes it any better.
Logan Rivera
>No fire doors to isolate the normal stairwell from smoke and fire. No emergency exit at the base of the stairwell. Roof door did not use panic bar open mechanism, instead had a funky two step unlatch.
This would've never passed code in the US. I'm willing to wager that it would not pass code soon in Japan either. Had the Japan's fire code been more stringent in terms of protected egress routes, the 19 people in the stairwell may have survived.
It can't be helped when the police is whitholding who the victims are even from their own family. Remember the bodies on the staircase were not disfigurated, they know who these people are.
Landon Cooper
they're some of the few genga that survived the fire by being on display elsewhere. Kyoani had a whole bunch of displays set up featuring their genga in order to promote their "year of movies"
Just wait until they finally release the oficial death toll and deceased list. Fuking hold me user
Jaxson Collins
Where can I see more, please?
William Peterson
Judging from the rest of that image, it seems most of that board of designs survived the fire.
Austin Howard
>Remember the bodies on the staircase were not disfigurated, they know who these people are. I thought they were burned beyond recognition later. They did die from CO poisoning first but then the building reached 1000 heat.
Brayden Brooks
I can't shake the feeling of hopelessness I'm finding most of them on twitter
>Gatoh confirmed Ishihara. I may be missing some nuance, but that seems like a rather qualified "confirmation," like he wasn't actually claiming first- or maybe even second-hand knowledge.
Connor Collins
I hope if they ever reveal the list of the deceased, they credit them with their genga they drew (if any). I'd think if there was an afterlife they'd appreciate it if people knew the work they did.
Adrian Sullivan
Interesting. The more information we get, the grimmer the picture it paints.
Angel Ward
with how dark accelerant smoke is, I doubt they could see 30cm in front of their face after about 10 seconds
Juan Sullivan
I saw this posted in another thread from about 2 minutes onwards
It goes to show how effective fire doors with properly fitted strips would have been in slowing down the fire and keeping smoke out. I think that Japanese fire regulations are the biggest problem that can/will be rectified in the near future. Even improperly fitted fire doors would have saved the people some time, even if it wasn't a lot.
Parker Rodriguez
That's true. I don't believe he retracted the statement unlike the other person though.
Luke Campbell
why weren't the 11 dead on the 2nd floor able to get out the window? one of the images from outside the building showed at least one window open with smoke coming out.
If only their characters and plots were on par with their animation
Carter Young
Google the Daegu subway attack.
Carter Nelson
Now that I look at that violet image, her shoulders look very weird and kinda manly, her head is also kinda small. Reminds me of Free.
Hudson Harris
So much for the Morning Lescue Crew. All show, no efficient work as per usual Japanese standard.
Owen Smith
Is Kumiko alright?
Kevin Thomas
this was known, but still sad
Leo Campbell
But you can determine sex by bone structure and I doubt the bones were melted.
Eli Evans
I can agree that the plots could sometimes be weaker mainly because of Hanada But I disagree on characters - they felt like the part that was most alive in their productions. Sadly this was probably one of the many irreplaceable drawings destroyed
Kyoani realized their plot writing sucks with the absolute commercial failure of Munto movie and anime series. They outsourced to adapting stories only after that.
You can't fix characters though because that's just Japanese shit taste.
William Torres
Some people on the second floor did make it out the windows, but others either were too scared to jump, couldn't find the window for the smoke coming from the damned staircase or found a locked window and burned alive calling for help through it (which happened to at least one).
>The families still don't know shit and have to look for him by themselves Japan is a shithole
Brayden Jackson
It's so fucking frustrating that people need a tragedy to spur them into action. That's the way it happened in the U.S. too, of course, but if only Japan had taken a page out of our book, this could have been prevented. Hopefully the Japanese government will take this as a wake-up call and improve their fire code.
Christopher Rogers
5 to 10 years for what?
Blake Lewis
CAN'T UNSEE
Brayden Baker
>co-director of the Disappearance of Haruhi >he disappeared
Point being that one of the bodies was burned so badly that they couldn't figure out the bone structure of that person.
Joseph Wright
Second-biggest, actually.
The Myojo 56 building fire, back in 2001, killed 44. The police in that case determined that it was arson, but the only charges brought were for negligence (a link to the yakuza or the triads was strongly suspected due to illegal gambling occurring at the site).
Ryder King
So what's the chance that he just faked his own death and is hiding in Bolivia
Some novelfag dumped summaries of Phantom World. The source material was 90% different from the anime.
There was no little genie girl and the plot involved Lucifer and the Demiurge.
MC is apparently Lucifer or Demiurge, I forgot, but yeah Phantom World Light Novel was completely different from the anime.
Dominic Wilson
It was to be expected anyway. It was originally 33 dead, 10 severely injured, right? It stands to reason that most if not all of the 10 severely injured will be dead within the next few weeks. Burns are a healthcare nightmare. The broken skin means that you leak fluids and shock comes easy. Broken skin also means you're a massive infection risk and infections come fast and frequently, which also pushes up the risk of sepsis, septic shock, etc.
Blake Wright
Bones change form if they are burned enough.
Anthony Gonzalez
Myoja was ruled accidental despite the rumors
Elijah Fisher
>on his deathbed Damn it... si he's in a a comma?
Jack Edwards
cant be worse than chernobyl
Tyler Young
Based angry brother. It's not that pitiful reactionary angry where you lash out against something you don't understand, it's that permanent, well thought out rage that comes after you sit and think about what happened, internalize it, and make it a part of yourself. I will absolutely never ever for the rest of my life stop being angry about what has happened.
Daniel Turner
>and also serves to train new animators Literally killing off the next gen. The arsonist has no future so proceed to ruin others'. This fucker is vengeful on so many damn levels.
What ? I have spent the past years with strollers for my daughters, which put me roughly in the same conditions as wheelchair people, and never really had any trouble going around Tokyo or its surroundings. Cramped buildings like in Akihabara or old shops in Shinjuku aren''t possible, but it's usually fine anywhere else. You'll always find an elevator or a ramp.
Now, France is a complete shithole if you're disabled / have infants in a stroller. Even in subway/train stations you'll often won't find any elevators or ramps.
Andrew Long
Kyoani won't revive. The fact of the matter is Hatta has taken responsibility for the fact that did the one fucking thing you're not supposed to do with security measures otherwise you make them useless. The fact that he both did that, and is not seriously injured will mean when the mourning is over, he will be expected to take responsibility. Right now he's basically not being lit up by the Japanese because the mourning period, but if he hasn't slit his stomach by the time it's over he's gonna be roasted like his employees were by the angry families
Eli Cook
If the K-On manga is any indication, the of the alterations are typically for the better
Landon Edwards
If you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.
There were piles of bodies near the windows too. People passed out from the smoke before they could jump.
Alexander Reed
>Some novelfag dumped summaries of Phantom World. The source material was 90% different from the anime. Really? So what's Phantom World all about?
Jaxon Carter
Hatta was not responsibe for the actions of another man, you fucking dumbass.
Luis Garcia
Deaths from massive amounts of radiation are extremely rare. You could get caught in a fire at any time.
And with that, I am turning off everything at the plug tonight.
Easton Thomas
Learn to read.
Blake Turner
>is still missing Missing just means we can't recognize this burn up bodies
Ryan Wilson
The disabled access on the trains in Tokyo is quite good, esp. compared to London or Paris or New York where you're pretty much fucked if you have a wheelchair.
I watched it for the first time today in his honor. I kept putting it off because I wanted to rewatch Haruhi beforehand. I said fuck it and watched it anyway. Amazing film. It felt short despite its well above-average run time. He did an great job.
I shouldn't put the value of life in the balance but, these 34 persons (at least for me) worth for hundreds if not thousands, so I'll consider this the worst tragedy in the history of Japan post-WWII.
Man, even if it was a different studio, maybe some niche one, I'd probably think the same, imagine now with Kyoani.
This is fucking surreal, it even looks artificial.
Jonathan Ortiz
K-On was one of the few exceptions where the adaptation was better than the original.
Gabriel Rogers
cute princess.
Elijah Clark
Children are a temporary condition. People don't gawk at you like you're a freak show or treat like you're invisible.
Source? The only sources I've seen say that the police considered it arson, but no one was ever charged beyond the six people charged with negligence (five of whom were convicted).
William Clark
Will they cancel the VEG concert this week? It is on the 27th so only 5 days from now
He's lying out of his ass Police still have not released any new information, and still won't for quite some time.
Luis Campbell
> all that wood Wood + Gasoline is a terrible combo. Wood makes for great food in a fire as it takes a while to eat through and burnt vanish smells like shit and produces fumes of its own. They didn't stand a chance.
Xavier Howard
The man was a true genius
It's amazing how many great things he was involved in.
This is the man that directed Lucky Star, which changed otaku culture forever This is the man that animated Nichijou Episode 2 (the epic hallway chase between Yuuko and Mio) This is the man that directed Violet Evergarden Episode 9, which was the single greatest anime episode in 2018 This is the man that directed God Knows
No, I sort of agree: if nothing else, the cultural contributions of these people are certainly greater than a bunch of people in a gambling den and a hostess bar.
Liam Fisher
I was wondering, do you think the studios around japan will do a tribute or something?
Christian Perry
And with this one I believe I've posted all of the genga photos that I got from twitter recently.
But episode 8 of VEG was the best episode of the show?
Matthew Cox
Nips don't see dentists
Isaiah Brooks
I'm going to miss Kigami and Takemoto so fucking much
Benjamin Robinson
A shame since the girl in looks really cute, but 100% understandable. If the person who drew that is still alive it would be much too painful to return to it if that's what they were working on at the time.
Caleb Nelson
What are they gonna do, draw them in their last grizzly demise as they burn or suffocate to death, like in that Barefoot Gen scene when the bomb was dropped?
Blake Miller
Not to mention Hyouka! In my opinion one of the very best TV shows ever made.
Jackson Rivera
To be fair, God Knows is overrated. Although I agree on the rest.
Xavier Green
Very much appreciated thank you user.
Cameron Anderson
I know user. We will all miss them and their talent dearly.
William Gutierrez
Isn't it sad, Sacchin
Grayson Murphy
Are you fags retarded or what? car manufactures are mostly made up of family names. I have Maserati and Ferrari friends.
One of the deceased was reported to be a korean lady.
Joseph Stewart
One of the victims was south korean
Jayden Brooks
One of the victims was a South Korean national.
Aaron Lopez
Hyouka is/was a technical marvel. It gets better with age and the more you know/understand about animation too. I wasn't a fan so much of the story or characters, but from the technical perspective, it's pretty much perfect.
Who bothers looking up faceless anime directors? Don't know who this guy is or why you made a thread about him.
Isaac Diaz
The day after the fire at KyoAni one of my professors condo burned down. Luckily nobody was hurt but there were no sprinklers, no fire alarms. Fire is no joke. It can happen any time for the dumbest fucking reasons(in this case somebody left a candle burning on their porch).
ANN has a really great database of anime and creators, you can look him up there. I'm sure you've encountered his work before.
Owen Nelson
it holds us over until names are released.
Leo Smith
Fuck them and fuck the newspapers too
Jaxon Parker
It frightens me to see that spiral staircase now. I never realized how much of a fire hazard they are.
Jack Reed
Well, one thing is Toyota being a normal last name, but when someone is unironically called "Moe" in addition to that, is vaild to raise the question.
Joshua Mitchell
>People act as though the smoke wasn't the worst way to go, but it'd still burn your lungs. It isn't really smoke perse that kills you, it's poison in the smoke You'll pass out way way before you feel the heat CO (carbon monoxide) unlike CO2, doesn't simply displace oxygen, it replaces oxygen. So, you breathe normally, inhale, exhale, etc., but instead of oxygen molecules binding to your blood, it's carbon monoxide. Apparantly, you don't feel short of breath, or struggle for air, you simply lose consciousness. That's why death by carbon monoxide is so popular, in America the classic is car exhaust in a garage or something, in Japan they burn charcoal. Gasoline produces a LOT of carbon monoxide, (hence the car exhaust, just burning gas) so it's very likely that before the members of kyoani were burned in any appreciable way, they passed out from lack of oxygen. Their bodies are horribly mutilated, but it's impossible that they were actually conscious long enough to experience being burned by the flames. This is why they died so fast, but it's also what kept them from suffering. It's a really really shitty blessing in disguise, but it's unlikely that any of them even knew what was happening for more than a few seconds.
Logan Ortiz
I get they want to show people how something this terrible happened but how fucking stupid do you have to be to show people the strategy behind burning down a building full of people? This will only serve as a lesson for future arsonists to reference as time goes on.
Adrian Gonzalez
If you have enough talent, I think you can. Get started with that Japanese lessons.
There’s a European guy named Mateusz that moved to Japan and does backgrounds for anime and commercials. He went to a university in Japan for a degree.
Julian Roberts
One was korean, so I think you're OK
Kevin Mitchell
There was an intern before. Seems like she turned off her twitter for now because of the incident.
Jose Parker
Are you retarded? No strategy is necessary with that much gasoline.
Thomas Diaz
Here is what was lost with Kigami and although he was not the only one working on these cuts they are still his doing. youtube.com/watch?v=95SojHbhBbU
Those of you that have watched Free should be aware that the majority of that water sakuga was done by Kigami and Ishidate. So let's hope that his former pupil Ishidate, who also can be attributed to a bunch of the cuts of the video above, can shoulder the responsibility of teaching the next generation of talent while remaining a major director in the company.
Thomas Romain too. I only know him because he did backgrounds on Aria the Arietta and I remember him tweeting how he knew of people that found KyoAni's working conditions eviable among other studios..
Leo Cox
No you stupid little shit, the word simulations is more than enough.
Jonathan Rodriguez
Lovely image, I really like it.
Logan Edwards
What ever you say mr.professional arsonist
Isaac Thompson
Kigami was one of kind of for KyoAni. He's super detailed and meticulous with his works. It will be a challenge for Ishidate to step up.
Cameron Young
I'd love for Kyoani to recover, but I do have some doubts. At the very least I hope all the victims manage to heal, and find peace.
Logan Young
Shit he did the Violet Evergarden trailer? Fuck
Colton Campbell
I have the feeling Kyoani will come back after some years with the greatest original masterpiece ever done in the media.
Asher Reed
I have a pretty solid base and can read some kanji from trying to study Japanese on and off for over a decade. Getting fluent at Japanese is mostly about talking with people so I'm pretty sure I could learn quickly if I tried. I wonder if I need a degree in art though?
Besides the jokes, Miyazaki said about the tragedy? The same thing Anno and other directors.
Aiden Anderson
Yes there is. If they had proper fire safety measures much less people would have died. They're showing the floor plan and where he placed the gasoline in order to effectively block exits and spread the fire and smoke as much as possible. You might as well show off how a group of school shooters chose their weaponry based on the floor plan and how they blocked off important exits so people would not be able to flee.
Angel Butler
For what purpose? Was this simulation really that necessary?
Oliver Wilson
Ishidate has been one of the best animators at KyoAni for a long time. It's his series directing which is questionable, his episode directing has been quite good though.
Anthony Brown
That's a reach, at best they will pump a generic moeshit with good art.
Benjamin Sanders
>The police send the pics of the arson's house to the press via fax
He was one of the main reasons why it looking so damn good, yes.
Jaxson Sanders
Part of me really wants Miyazaki to say something outrageous that finally puts the nail in his public image's coffin.
Eli Torres
My early 2010s apartment has FOUR sprinklers for the 400 sq ft rental. I expect to drown in case of fire.
Eli Diaz
RIP Kotobuki
Jason Turner
It was becoming fairly obvious he's dead, so I'm mentally prepared for this. I can only pity the poor faggots that are in denial.
Hudson Adams
Well, shit. I didn't think much of VEG itself, but the trailer was one of the most beautiful pieces of animation I'd ever seen. I was watching it again and again because of how nice it looked.
You can learn a lot from recreations/simulations. It's the same with things like fluid dynamics for tsunamis and using miniature pools. You have to keep in mind that it probably isn't the TV station that is doing this modelling, it'll be some other agency and the TV company would just have filmed to show their viewers something besides the usual 3D renders that have also been making the rounds.
Jason Harris
How about you just focus on the survivors not wanting to kill themselves once they realize they will never look the same
Joshua Nelson
I wonder if Toshiyuki Inoue will reach out. It would be nice to have more veteran animators.
You could always go through their schooling program when they rebuild a place for it They hire lots of the students that they train to work in their studios
John Parker
He is a pretty big misanthropic asshole, though.
Elijah Baker
>not ass >cripple friend.webm
Jaxson Gomez
He also did a couple of the best episodes of Hare+Guu. Well maybe not best, but they were easily a couple of the most memorable and important
did they school at Studio 1? It feels as though Animation Do's studio or Studio 2 would have been a better place for it. More so for Studio 2 since they have that super cute gift shop just underneath.
Jonathan Cook
>Using Fax in 2019 >The most high tech country No wonder Kyoani dont have a proper security system for fire

Seeing as I only ever liked one of their shows. I can't really relate with Yea Forums acting like this was a big loss either. Kind of funny all the anti-kyoani shitposters aren't as rampant as usual though, maybe they were tsundere all along
This is the man who was the key animator for the Air OP.
That's the thing that hits me the hardest.
I also loved his work on FMP and Amaburi, and have been meaning to watch Meidoragon. Hopefully I can still bring myself to. When Miyu Matsuki died unexpectedly, it was a long time before I could bring myself to watch her shows again. I still haven't been able to finish Nyaruko, or re-watch Hidasketch (which was one of my all time favorites).
Tomoko Kawakami's untimely death from cancer comes into play any time I re-watch the three Key adaptations, but especially Air, for reasons obvious to anyone who has seen it.
Colton Perry
Is she supposed to be important? Her objective is the arson?
Justin Reyes
Unironically kill yourself
Nolan Diaz
Beyond consumer electronics, Japan is mostly stuck in the 80s and 90s. They've been slow to adopt modern productivity tools and it's a huge reason they've fallen behind in a lot of fields. They hold on to the reputation of being hi tech based on their TVs and irrelevant neon signs on buildings.
Adam Rogers
I don't watch any of their modern moe shit but Clannad mean alot to me.
Jayden Miller
Actually it's not always that simple. The skull and hips are the bones that help you determine sex and that's when they are in decent condition. Who knows what happens when they are burnt and warped from the heat.
Chase Gutierrez
Why are the ones directed by Ishidate the most shitposted?
>are you going to shame jews for profiting off disaster
yes, yes.
Austin Cruz
I would be sure to try someday since I have nothing to lose. Kyoani is really important to me as well.
Carter Torres
>Tomoko Kawakami is dead >The character designers for Air and Kanon/Clannad are probably dead >The animators and directors for several episodes are probably dead Why does my favorite Key VN have to be cursed like this?
Japan is crumbling away from the whole Nipponese pride after this incident the wall will break free.
Thomas Johnson
The last popular show were a fucking fujo and/u/ pandering. They put efforts to be a serious studios but in the end they needed money to survive.
Angel Kelly
$1.5 can get them a new 3 story building to move the studio to. a little more can get fire escapes installed.
Camden Miller
I try, but I just know I'll tear up as soon as I hear Yoshinoya-sensei's squeaking shoes.
Jayden Gutierrez
Say the same but replace Japan with America and fire with mass shooting.
Cooper Bennett
Meanwhile, in reality, fax is still used all over the first-world and the building was "declared to have had no deficiencies in fire safety compliance during its last inspection on 17 October 2018". I get it though. As long as you can shitpost life is good, right?
Christian Anderson
>yfw Yamakan and Yukiko Horiguchi returns to Kyoani to help with the rebirth.
Dominic Richardson
>Air OP Back when it aired, I had decided KyoAni was the ideal anime studio from that OP alone. The hair animation is still stunning.
Cameron King
Very litttle but it would at least help the victims.
James Robinson
heh, i laughed when imagining they will never rent a studio that doesn't have fire escapes from now on.
William Butler
What if the next crazy neet decides to flood the new building instead of burning it.
Christian Morales
>but in the end they needed money to survive. You mean like every for-profit studio in existence? NO SHIT
Brody Barnes
> If they had proper fire safety measures much less people would have died. Yes but that has nothing to do with what we're discussing
You'd have to be a brainlet more retarded than the arsonist to think the simulation is going to teach anyone anything about how to be a better arsonist.
I have a question. It was revealed yet who was the firestarter why he did it? I remember that during the initial shitstorm people were blaming a train otaku but I ignored all that because it sounded like trolling and missinfo. Now that the shitstorm died off a bit I don't know if that information is clear.
Julian Price
>This is the man that directed Lucky Star, which changed otaku culture forever Changed for worse now every studios need carter otkaus or will be finished
>This is the man that animated Nichijou Episode 2 (the epic hallway chase between Yuuko and Mio) >This is the man that directed Violet Evergarden Episode 9, which was the single greatest anime episode in 2018 Very good episodes
Joseph Walker
It makes me think of those people who have a missing family member and spend their entire lives in this agony. They know that their children, parents and cousins are probably dead, but since there is no official confirmation, hope persists.
Lincoln Young
The money is going to families and the injured.
Adrian Gonzalez
The arsonist got himself caught in the fire and is still unconscious, you have to wait for him to wake up.
Ryan James
He's still in a medically induced coma due to his burn injuries. He was yelling about being ripped off and mentioned a novel.
Christopher Morales
I'm terrified of fire. It was the video of the fire at that Great White concert that showed me just how bad it is. It happened so fucking fast. The pyrotechnics went off, then people started slowly moving out, then all of a sudden it was EVERYWHERE. Now whenever I hear a fire alarm, I get the fuck out of wherever I am, even when I know it's just a false alarm.
Do not take any chances with fire. Just get out.
Bentley Hill
>now every studios need carter otkaus or will be finished >now That shit's at least 2 decades older than LS.
Jordan Bell
I didnt like any of their recent works like phantom flop, VEG, free, archerboys etc but almost every works before hyouka can be considered a classic Snow mountain syndrome and sasaki will never be animated now
Tyler Brown
It's absolutely one of the best OPs of all time. It's a damn shame we've never gotten the blu-ray with the extended opening stateside (fucking Funi: if ADV/Sentai still had the rights, I bet we'd have gotten it).
Ryan Sanders
I swear if he doesn't get the death row I will fucking kill him myself.
Anthony Long
>medically induced coma What's the use of that? Surely if he was able to talk and walk with the wounds he doesn't need to be in a coma to heal, does he?
Brody Jones
Haven't you heard? Yamakan has vowed to retire forever after his current movie project wraps up.
Landon Davis
>this year's resolution is to burn down Kyoani I wonder if this twitter got spooked by its own tweet now.
Mason Phillips
Shinkai said something (it is/was his favorite tv studio IIRC). But honestly what do you expect them to say aside feeling even worse than us fans?
For us that are bystanders it's only exacerbated by the fact that honestly, what the fuck can you even think? I suppose someone will say something about colleagues/friends but there is really no big commentary to do.
Alexander Russell
let sentai make shitty subs for eternity
Luke Watson
All the money in the world can't bring back the dead.
Owen Gutierrez
The guy probably suffering from 2nd degree burns, he will be recovering enough to hang at least don't worry
Connor Scott
While I would certainly approve and like to watch him receive skin grafts while fully conscious, they won't do it.
Thomas Brown
>What's the use of that?
If he wasn't forced to be sleep the pain from the injuries would probably make him rip off his catheters and injure himself further
Angel Morris
It's one of the deadliest attacks in Japanese history. When he wakes up, he''s getting the rope.
Gavin Perez
I think you have to be the brainlet to not see how this can help people that know absolutely nothing about how fires work that may want to commit an atrocity like this. This is like Arsonist 101 to any potential angry lunatics in the world.
Aaron Edwards
No but it can make it so the survivors and families of the dead have one less thing to worry about.
Ethan Wilson
The blame for that is mostly, if not entirely, on GAINAX, not on anything KyoAni has done.
Christopher Richardson
>Doesn't let him suffer while tying his limps to the bed Damn shitty doctors
Xavier Kelly
>not amputating his fingers and toes at different points needlessly so that he has to live the rest of his life as a cripple with constant minor inconveniences
Just imagine how annoying it would be with half a finger and two stumps on each hand.
Kayden Ortiz
He says that every time he makes another flop
Ian Reyes
He was in pretty bad shape when they found him. It's not even certain that he will survive.
Jace White
God, I wish super detailed hair was still a thing. I'm also surprised Air and Kanon's blu rays never got released over here. They both did pretty well.
It didn't matter, KEY already got JC post little buster
Anthony Flores
I think this kind of extreme and unexpected situations are enough to make people change their mindset completely. Yamakan might have his chance to redeem here.
Dominic Wilson
They're going to hang him eventually anyway.
Cooper Jones
>fire at that Great White Fuck. Now was definitely not the right time to look up that video.
Owen Harris
angry otaku hikkimori that believed that kyoani ripped him off. either a catchphrase or some original work.
Connor Martin
Hey fucker, JC is shit, Key deserved better
Jacob Martin
Some people Call the second wave in case of Kyoani
Joshua Evans
MD user here. The coma is for relieve pain that can't be tolerated while awake. Also if your upper airway is burned it takes a little while to be swollen enough to make orotraquel intubation impossible, so you sedate the guy to keep him breathi g
Adrian Perry
That one episode from Pokemon?
William Carter
If Takase doesn't quit you can expect more HD hair from the studio.
Honestly, I don't care whether he gets the death penalty. Rotting away in jail for decades is probably a more suitable punishment than being allowed to die so soon.
>if your upper airway is burned it takes a little while to be swollen enough How long will that usually take?
Joshua Phillips
>for free Thank god this wasn't in the USA where they'd get burned by some psycho and go bankrupt for it.
Dylan Russell
Not a great deal in the context of (I assume) young people with potentially life-changing injuries that may require long-term support. Its not nothing but its a gesture.
Not targeting this at you but people ITT seem to have strange ideas about what a lot of money is and what things cost.
Gavin Hughes
i can't believe how much of the garbage anime moeshit came out of kyoani. i had no idea until the fire that they were responsible for so much trash, and that the people who worked there were responsible for so much trash.
of course it was a moe-fag who did this. only a moefag could care so much about garbage.
There likely will be real simulations done with professional fire modelling software, either as part of legal/insurance proceedings or by academics and researchers. This would also allow counterfactuals to be tested (no spiral staircase, or with sprinklers).
Carter Harris
Capital punishment in nipland took a long as time man, remember the sarin attack one?
Daniel Diaz
If Ishidate even wants to work in animation after this
Christopher Barnes
This case will for sure get a detailed documentary
Brody Ross
Eva popularize late night anime Haruhi did the same for LN
Bentley Edwards
>Clannad Yeah that. Tohno-chan is taking this really hard.
Sebastian Butler
I'd say I was surprised that in this situation people still childishly whine about their taste as if it matters to anyone, but I'm really not.
Logan Bailey
I dunno, it's just not the same as the way it was done back in the mid 90s/mid 2000s. Maybe it's because of the excessive digital filters or something?
Eh, the more money they get the more they can shoulder this hardship in future, rebuilding a studio and company need alot of money, feeling and prayers can't do jack shit.
Charles Miller
I would say 15-30 minutes
Thomas Sanchez
>Inmates are held in solitary confinement and are forbidden to communicate with their fellows. They are permitted two periods of exercise a week, are not allowed televisions and may only possess three books.[10] Prisoners are not allowed to exercise within their own cells.[11] Prison visits, both by family members and legal representatives, are infrequent and closely supervised. >The death penalty is carried out by hanging in an execution chamber within the detention centre. When an execution order has been issued, the condemned prisoner is informed in the morning of their execution. The condemned is given a choice of the last meal. The prisoner's family and legal representatives, and also the general public, are informed only afterwards. The Japanese treatment of death row inmates is pretty cruel. Fitting for the KyoAni arsonist. The sarin attack perpetrators were only executed last year.
Gabriel Price
Yeah you will likely need a bachelor’s degree for a work visa
Liam Reed
You know what? Fuck it, I don't know how long I'll wait. I'm gonna waiting kyoAni to bounce back, until then I stop thinking to kill myself.
Andrew Davis
This is what they're making even without a hit. They're definitely stable.
>I'm also surprised Air and Kanon's blu rays never got released over here. They both did pretty well. Well, like I said, I blame it on the whole thing where ADV lost the rights during the whole Soljitz debacle, and they were handed to Funimation. Funi simply reissued ADV's release, under license, but they probably don't have a license to use ADV's dub, subtitle translations, etc., for a Blu-ray release, and don't want to spend more money on those IPs, especially since they didn't see most of the money from the DVDs (Air had been out for like a year at that point, and even the first five volumes of Kanon were released by ADV before it got pulled). They were content to reap what marginal returns they could from having them in their back catalog, but they seemingly weren't going to put any more effort into them.
Clannad, OTOH, has gotten a Blu-ray release from Sentai.
Blake Cox
what does being in a coma feel like
Connor Rivera
He's probably gonna die from burn wounds
Julian Wright
The point is that the phenomenon was already long established by then.
Brody Sanchez
so when is maid dragon s2 coming out
Luke Torres
Sucks to think it's all gone now
Lucas Evans
I'm starting Kanon tonight. The first episode was good, hope its a ride.
Jack Carter
Yamakan's true ability unlocks only in the face of tragedy. How cruel.
Nolan Richardson
If Netflix bought Kyoani and help them rebuild it would be hilarious. They already did better compare to Shittyroll
Compensation for the family and survivors. Also they probably lost a lot of materials and equipment in the fire. There is a lot they will have to redo from scratch.
Ethan Morales
They will never do anything again.
Brandon Harris
I was in comma once (car accident) and it felt like a really long uncomfortable nap. It had dreams but I do remember "waking up" and seeing the doctors talking about me and my family talking with them too couple of times. I don't know what was that since I was 100% in comma the whole time. When I woke up I had the worst hangover I ever had.
Gabriel Smith
Should I do Air instead? Haven't seen either honestly.
Jack Barnes
money can't just create talent out of nowhere you know?
Lucas Morales
>Soljitz Sojitz*
I don't know how that "l" got in there.
Kevin Moore
how legit is this and how much money Kyoani will be actually be able to get ?
>netflix buys kyoani >kyoani starts pushing out shit anime aiming for the murrikan audience
Henry Jackson
This is probably the saddest part about the tragedy. You can throw all the money you want but you will never get talent like Kigami back.
Isaac Peterson
Unless Sentai want to crash and burn to the ground like Kyoani, they won't dare pulling a scam
Matthew Diaz
Some greedy corpo with no care in the world about animation coming in and buying them out is the same as having them disband. They'd become just another corpo slave doomed to value quantity over quality. I sure hope this doesn't happen, I want them to get back on their feet by themselves and remain autonomous.
Ryder Campbell
Tragedy will either make fear destroy them or they will come back stronger. Major tragedies inspire the best comeback stories.
Brandon Parker
that isn't even enough to finance half of an anime season
Henry Morales
The OP to Air is awesome, love the harmonies
could do without the character designs where everyone has fetal alcohol syndrome though, just sayin'
Jace Wood
What with nips and not accepting donations? Pride? Shame?
This isn't happening. It's the risk when you do everything in house. Once it all goes up in flames, along with everyone who could possibly teach new animators, kiss the quality you once had goodbye
Wyatt Price
It depends. There's a case where person who is in coma realises everything around him and see/hear his wife cheating on him inside his hospital room.
Jayden Mitchell
Yeah, I know Key designs rub some people the wrong way. Personally, I don't mind them at all uguu~
Wyatt Parker
I'd read Air first, personally. The anime was far too compressed with only 12 episodes. Kanon's anime is arguably better than the original, though.
Is this Japan's Triangle Fire moment? I certainly hope so. The lack of fire suppression systems and fire escapes for a workplace is absolutely retarded.
Nathaniel Davis
It's pride. But knowing that this is more like mental support than money itself, I'm sure they're going to take it.
Ryder Diaz
He's a good dude. Old school imageboard user. Don't see a lot of them around very much these days.
Daniel Garcia
>see/hear his wife cheating on him inside his hospital room Mandatory NTR?
Austin Carter
The designs themselves are fine, Misuzu's is iconic. It's just Itaru Hinoue's hideous art style that fucks it up.
>Itaru Hinoue Her art is good now, too bad the quality drop down to the toliet after she go freelance.
Jonathan Sullivan
pretty sure the CEO is content with disbanding the company.
he's pretty old and already stated in interviews they're 100% fucked and would take years to rebuild
Chase Hill
Thank god Na-Ga replaces him for good.
Carson Johnson
It's a hard choice. Air was made first, but the Kanon VN came before the Air VN, and it had a previous TV adaptation (by Toei), which we don't talk about (like Toei's movies for Air and Clannad).
Air has at least one in-joke that references characters from Kanon, and Kanon also has one or two references to Air. As the other user said, Kanon has a winter setting, while Air is summer. Air is also shorter (1 cour plus specials, as opposed to 2 cours for Kanon), and some would say the pacing is a little uneven by comparison.
Personally, I'd start with Air, then Kanon, then Clannad (if you haven't already watched it). But starting with Kanon is equally valid. You can't really go wrong either way.
Gavin Martinez
Air does Mizusu and Kanna stuff pretty good. The other route stories not so much.
The ending of Air fucked me up so much.
Lincoln Edwards
I wanted to be an optimist in this, but some of their sheep literally go "If you donate for that certain pedo, you too can donate to help those needing that more." That sounds fake as fuck
Elijah Sullivan
It's not just Japan. Model building is pretty much the standard when it comes to things like fluid dynamics and shit like tsunami models.Same goes for initial testing with wind tunnels. And this is across the world. I would not be surprised if they used miniature buildings to recreate the arson to confirm suspected propagation of fire and smoke Look how they use wavetanks to simulate coastal defense efficency. youtube.com/watch?v=3yNoy4H2Z-o
Juan Adams
I've seen Clannad twice, yeah. Thanks for the info. I'll sit here and procrastinate on it for a little bit now.
>pretty sure the CEO is content with disbanding the company. Pretty sure you're talking out of your ass. He told NHK that he doesn't want their works to go to waste and that the remaining staff wants to do their best to honor the ones they lost.
Jace Martin
Her art is passable now*. She still suffers from some wonky anatomy and her sameface syndrome is worse than ever.
I liked the Kanon anime better than the Air one, but Air hit me harder emotionally
Justin Butler
netlfix can't buy kyoani its illegal for foreign companies to buy Japanese ones
Christian Johnson
cnbc.com/2019/07/20/reuters-america-update-4-i-dont-have-words-boss-of-torched-japan-animation-studio-mourns-bright-young-staff.html >Fumiko Shimizu, 91, who lives close to the building and watched the fire from her balcony at home, said she regularly greeted the staff she met in the street. >“I used to see them going to the convenience store in groups of six or so to buy lunch boxes. There were a lot of young people, in the twenties and thirties,” she said. >“They died so young when it would be alright for somebody like me to die anytime.”
Samuel Wilson
>That last post about her want to start a family when all of it is over
Be warned. It's a series too lengthy to be delivered in a single cour. The VN would be the better medium to start with if you want to understand the story more.
Jayden Myers
The worst part for me was that it was the last Key adaptation I had ever watched, so no matter how bad it got I fully believed in an asspull happy ending right until the credits rolled. It never came.
Tomoko Kawakami was a legend, may she rest in peace.
Owen Powell
I really prefer kyoAni's adaptation but honest reading the original work makes me appreciate some subtlenesses that Ishihara gave to the anime, like adding the orbs when the arc is over. The dad arc in anime is also more impactful than the VN. Still man, that Akki and Sanae arcs are really nice to read.
Bentley Walker
>They died so young when it would be alright for somebody like me to die anytime Damnit oba-chan, stop making it sadder
Jason Bennett
Give me a moment to find the article. In the meantime here's his statement to the press, these are not the words of somebody that wants to quit.
I'm working through Clannad, though so far I've only completed Ryou's route.
It was already mentioned upthread.
It wasn't sudden. It was ovarian cancer and she battled it for nearly three years. She was already sick when working on Clannad Afterstory (she voiced the Girl in the Illusionary World, so...yeah).
Ayden Ward
I was mistaken, he did not say it to NHK but to the press in general. Still, the picture from (possibly) 京都新聞 that I gave you is the statement in question.
Colton Ramirez
Hatta won't quit. If he quits now he will be betraying those who were lost. The other staff is another story though.
Jaxson Rodriguez
Her characters are at their best when other people draw them in a different style. When did she say that?
The injured might want to quit although I have my doubts because they'd struggle too much to find another line of work. Those found on the other 4 buildings likely won't quit.
Jordan Gomez
>The dad arc in anime is also more impactful than the VN Yeah, the final moment of that arc give me tears.
Liam Butler
I had just finished watching Utena for the first time when the news of her death broke.
Lots of Hawaii trips for the guy who disabled the security that day.
Parker Bell
>Those found on the other 4 buildings likely won't quit Speaking of which, how many people do they have left at other studio? Surely it's must be half of the whole company right?
Zachary Martinez
>the guy who disabled the security that day inb4 it's one of the survivor.
