This was great, almost as good as Your Name. I honestly expected Shinkai to flub this one and for it to not hold up in comparison, but he actually made a great movie again. It's different enough from Your Name, too, so he didn't just copy what worked and do it again.

2020. Maybe earlier at select film festivals? In any case expect to see a rip before the end of the year.

For us who?

>Almost as good
It was better.
>Flub
Fucking bandwagon faggot you are

The only country that really matters. The same country that brought us this beautiful man

Your Name wrapped up its plot threads better, while this one had a more impactful ending. Choose whichever criteria you think is more important, and the movie that did that one better becomes the better movie.
I found the business with the gun and the police to be incredibly shoehorned, and then unsatisfyingly discarded once it had no longer served its purpose without a proper conclusion to that arc. I'll admit the ending was better and the character development of the leads was better, but having a fairly major plot point resolved in as offhand a fashion as it was means it doesn't rank as high for me. They could've at least added a scene of him explaining himself to the police.

From what I've seen on Twitter the nips' reactions were

>characters were fine, side characters were more fleshed out than YN
>opinion is divided on the writing/story
>music was great
>they loved the cameos
>product placement was over the top, to the point where people found it funny
>apparently less of a crowd pleaser than YN and slightly closer to Shinkai's earlier works
>some people thought it works best as a companion to YN
I'm intrigued

Who? Looks German

That man is the Microsoft word 1989 expert. It was a 3 hour hype video before one of the last Christmas streams last year.

How did you watch the movie? Are you in Japan?

Don't really care about burgers. Here (undisclosed europoor southern location) it's october for the theatrical release.

Kinda surprised we get a date before better functioning countries, I have to say.

Obviously he is
Movie hasn't released anywhere else and won't make it online for at least a few weeks

The story bit is worrying. Kimi no na Wa had pretty big issues with plots going nowhere.

Can only hope the characters really are better, especially the protag (seriously the worst offender in most of his works, especially your name)

>Kimi no na Wa had pretty big issues with plots going nowhere
I thought Your Name was fine story-wise, only issue was the part where 3ha convinced her dad to evacuate the town being off screened
Also the LN written by Shinkai tends to fill in the movie's holes, that was the case for Your Name as well

How about the reincarnation/magical crater thingy?

I thought that was just part of the local religion/tradition, as with what happened with MC drinking the wine etc.

But they don't explain shit. Is there a circel of reincarnation? What it does? How it's connected with the story?

Mind you I really liked the aesthetics, finally something really sacred and otherworldly - I probably wanted to get it more mostly for that.

>But they don't explain shit
To be honest it didn't matter to me - if I recall the main characters didn't fully understand what was going on either

The LN (and the manga adaptation of it) probably has what you're looking for though, the backstory with Mitsuha's parents includes a conversation about what the Miyamizu shrine is founded on
>shooting star was thought to be a dragon
>the dragon is caught by the weaving
>the weaving/plaited cords represent the bonds between people
Mitsuha's mom also tells the dad before she dies that it isn't a true goodbye, which implies that her role as a protector of the town was passed to Mitsuha by default and she/the religion lives on in her - which is what finally convinced him to clear out the town

Someone should scan the manga, art isn't very good but there are some interesting stories in it

Guess I should mention the entire Kimi no Na Wa Another Side: Earthbound manga can be read for free until 8/15 on the Cycomi phone app, as a promo for the Weathering movie

Browser only shows the first and last chapters

I can't believe people watch shinkaishit for good writing. He's only good for scenery porn.
