As it would be one of the most mysterious and unknown logia types, I am sure Oda will bring up some reasonable exceptions for this logia type. It's a good alternative to the pure haki theory and could explain shanks ability to swim in the beginning. Which is btw the only reason ppl think he, and thus his crew, has no df abilities at all.
