I've been rewatching Shirobako since the Kyoani fire and I can say in retrospect - it seems the Shirobako girls were portrayed as pretty cute and good hearted, while some of the girls, especially the 2nd cour girls in New Game are petty bitches.

Shirobako is probably a closer to reality (albeit cleaned up a bit) and a collection of "war stories" from various staffers

I know New Game isn't based on reality for a fact, a rando sitting down with a 3DS Max book and learning how to do characters after a month. Please... I've worked with at least 3 dozens of newbies so far and none of them was even close to useful within 12 months of becoming an intern. That's why interns exist to begin with.

Can't say if Shirobako is that much more realistic though.

I think it conveys the sentiments of the people working in anime but it fails to convey the actual grind that industry is in constantly.

It also has that cringey "CG will replace anime" meme even though, there was never any push for that to happen from either side of the fence. As if CG studios would want to make that shit. It doesn't pay even a 10th of what they make on live action projects and the amount of work and deadlines are retarded.

It feels like it's made by some old man ... well, I suppose it is, last time I cared about it anime was in a serious crisis finding young animators. I imagine that's even worse now.
