What the fuck did I just watch?
What the fuck did I just watch?
An embarrassment to his dad.
Nepotism.
Nepotism in action.

Nepotism: The Animation
A movie that could have been decent if it actually stuck to adapting one of the Earthsea books, rather than making an incoherent mess of a screenplay that left everyone feeling confused and unsatisfied.
I think it's actually a fantastic example of what role a director has in a film. You have incredibly competent animation, sound design, backgrounding, voice acting, good source material, marketing, absolutely unlimited resources to the best of everything in the business. However, your director is completely incompetent. What you end up with is a painstakingly crafted, beautifully formed incoherent pile of garbage. Pretty impressive actually, makes you wonder how many good films could have been made for the amount of money spent letting Goro figure out that he doesn't know how to direct.
Is it good?
Why was Goro pushed as director without any prior experience? Wouldn't have been better if he had some experience before hand like doing shorts or being an assistant director.
I liked it
It had potential at the start, but about an hour into the film you realize you're still waiting for the fucking plot to get going, and then ending is a total goddamn clusterfuck. Easily the worst Ghibli movie I've seen.
>Nepotism
Fun fact: the mc kills his father. That never happened in the book, so it was written in specifically for the movie. It has to be symbolic for something.
Ghibli's 2nd worst movie after Ponyo.
Fight me.
Again, nepotism.
To be fair Ghibli takes quite a few liberties adapting the source material. Howl's Moving Castle is also based on a book and is quite different from it.
Why would I fight my African American brethren?
Haven't seen Ponyo yet (I'm working my way through the DVD collection, which is the only reason I watched Earthsea), but I can't imagine it being worse than When Marnie Was There. I've heard people defend it, but that movie just didn't do anything for me.
And although I wouldn't call it one of their best works, I did like From Up On Poppy Hill, so Goro Miyazaki isn't totally awful, but he shouldn't have been given Earthsea with so little experience (if any).
Then go fucking watch it instead of trying to signal what a serious ""film""" watcher you are.
Maybe I will just to show you what a faggot you are.
pretentious garb
they were gonna adapt it earlier but the author said no, it wasn't until they got more famous that she allowed them to adapt it.
I like to think they made it terrible on purpose as a fuck you to the author lmao
Things like that tend to have a bad history. Think about how the newest Berserk anime could have been prevented if it had been done earlier, or the same could be said of JoJo not going to a no-name studio.
As it turns out, when a studio approaches an author of a source material it is them saying they are more interested in adapting that work because they are inspired by it than they would be working on their own projects. That kind of creative energy is nothing to play hard-to-get with because it doesn't last forever.
Wasn't Hayao suppose to direct it first but he was busy at that time so it got pass to his son?
Hayao would have directed it if the author of the books took Ghibli's initial offer to adapt it, but by the time she reconsidered, he had already retired.
A disappointment.
