is skycrawlers good? might watch it tonight

>Author Mori said he felt The Sky Crawlers was the "most difficult" of his works to adapt, and only consented to its filming after learning of Oshii's directorial involvement.

He's really good when he doesn't do too much, like in GiTS, Angel's Egg and Beautiful Dreamer. When he starts jerking off his philosophy dick it gets excruciating

The Urusei Yatsura movie he made is one of the worst things I have ever had the displeasure of subjecting myself to. I understand why Takahashi wanted him fired.

Ghost in the Shell was a cool aesthetic though.

It's fucking slow. Like everything he does. Movie was ok. Nothing special but still a nice watch.

I liked Patlabor a lot.
I should watch the movies sometime.

>Angel's Egg
Isn't that a philosophy essay?

up

I liked patlabor, so thats something.

Also i hope VLADLOVE is a good anime

Yes

The first one is on par with GitS if not better. Fucking do it now. You never know when you could die in a horrible fire.

Kind of a hack who got carried through his whole career by the talented teams around him. His live action is all garbage.

Oshii's live actions SUCK so much

Only reason you like Oshii

Damn, live everyday as if it is your last day

isn't the second movie his best work?

That's what I thought. but then I started to like his live actions too

>atmospheric slow burn

No. His best work is without a doubt Patlabor: Early Days OVAs. A director's skill can only be appreciated on his low budget short schedule works. You can see his ambition on every fucking scene.
IMHO The firsts movie is better and the second should have been split into a four parts OVA. He jammed too much narrative into too few minutes.

Can I watch just the 2 Patlabor's movie without anything else? Is the OVA important for the story?

Yes the movies are self-contained.

He's great. GiTS 2 Innocence is pretty underrated though

Oshii is one of the few director-writers who can do both lighthearted and serious stories well.

Is it better than Lain though?

It's debatable. I like lain but I'm not the biggest fan of it. I guess KT would depend on if you find anthropomorphism interesting of not. The visuals beat main though. People complain about CGI in the movie, but it blends well and enhances the atmosphere

He's great.

>Is he the greatest director alive?
Being alive is already an achievement

KT?

It

GITS 2 was a bunch of psychobabble nonsense laid over 3D PS2 backgrounds. I guess he was down for it at the time, but I feel bad that Okiura's amazing KA was ruined by the most jarring looking movie ever.

>the greatest director alive
As much as I love anime, there is no anime director in that conversation.

>Okiura's
the same who did Jin Roh? I thought it was from Oshii

Yeah GITS2 was directed by Oshii, Okiura's mostly a key animator/animation director. He's known for incredibly realistic character animation that no one can replicate. He's a part of Oshii's core team so I assume he had to be aware of what the final product would look like.

Oshii is literally the greatest anime director barred from ever being allowed to work in the industry ever again.
Take that as you will.
Also he's the only famous guy in Japan that talks real shit about Ghibli and Miyazaki without gargling their balls and I've always appreciated that

I really don't see how its jarring though, j quite like how the backgrounds look alongside the characters

What you would call a hack. Also severely autistic if you read any of his interviews.

Matter of taste. Personally it was tough to watch. Also you cherrypicked one of the few decent looking ones.
