Smart characters written stupidly.

Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men is a smartly written smart character. When Chigurh kills a hotel room full of three people he books the room next door so he can examine it, finding which walls he can shoot through, where the light switch is, what sort of cover is there etc. This is a smart thing to do because Chigurh is a smart person who is written by another smart person who understands how smart people think.

Were Sherlock Holmes to kill a hotel room full of three people. He'd enter using a secret door in the hotel that he read about in a book ten years ago. He'd throw peanuts at one guy causing him to go into anaphylactic shock, as he had deduced from a dartboard with a picture of George Washington Carver on it pinned to the wall that the man had a severe peanut allergy. The second man would then kill himself just according to plan as Sherlock had earlier deduced that him and the first man were homosexual lovers who couldn't live without each other due to a faint scent of penis on each man's breath and a slight dilation of their pupils whenever they looked at each other. As for the third man, why Sherlock doesn't kill him at all. The third man removes his sunglasses and wig to reveal he actually WAS Sherlock the entire time. But Sherlock just entered through the Secret door and killed two people, how can there be two of him? The first Sherlock removes his mask to reveal he's actually Moriarty attempting to frame Sherlock for two murders. Sherlock however anticipated this, the two dead men stand up, they're undercover police officers, it was all a ruse. "But Sherlock!" Moriarty cries "That police officer blew his own head off, look at it, there's skull fragments on the wall, how is he fine now? How did you fake that?". Sherlock just winks at the screen, the end.

This is retarded because Sherlock is a smart person written by a stupid person to whom smart people are indistinguishable from wizards.

>Whisperfag
Oh brother.

i hate this faggot meme post

To be honest death note is a bit in the middle.
L or kira did way more smart shit than characters in code geass(for example how L found about kira location at beginning). But there is still lot of bullshit.

because it hits you close home with your two digit iq?

Check out THESE two digits,faggot.

Maybe huntards deserve this board, if you idiots are so retarded you actually replied to him there might be merit to his tl:dr post.

you shouldn't even be given hiatus x hiatus fags the time of day let alone refuting post you know are straight up bullshit.

no because it's written by an idiot who doesn't understand the tonal difference between no country and sherlock

it's an old copypasta newfaggot

t. steven moffat

moffat is a braindead subhuman but sherlock was never meant to be anything more than schlock.

Any more examples of good written smart characters?

>difference between no country and sherlock
What has that got to do with the intelligence of the character and writer?

literally fucking everything

check liar game

Lol'd

Thanks bud

Ousen from Kingdom

kinda sad how Conan Doyle's work has been so flanderise throughout the years

>I watched the weather report!
Yes really smart, might as well post Yugi instead

Shiro shouldnt be included in smart characthers.
She is simply a supercomputer who obtained human form. Calculations is all she is good for.

Fuck off

>Togashi less stupid than Urasawa
kek

Because it's the truth?

if you think so you're genuinely dumb.

only good post

Tokuchi becoming the owner after fucking everyone over and making the players' salary performance based was KINO though

Johan is unrealistically smart for a reason, Urasawa wants you to wonder whether he's really the Devil incarnated or not. He's also a much better character than any in HxH could ever hope to be especially the autistic edgelord Lucifer. Not to obviously mention Urasawa being a much better mangaka than Togashi

Attached: 0AV.jpg (806x1200, 281K)

>He's also a much better character than any in HxH could ever hope to be especially the autistic edgelord Lucifer.

But Johan is literally cliche edgy "mastermind sociopath" with no emotions while Chrollo actually very human character who cares a lot about his friends

Attached: 15505.jpg (1170x444, 274K)

Yeah next time you read Monster you pay attention to the story right Monster has a shitload of thematics too, but if we go to the essential, then Johan just plays a game against fate. This is a point that was raised a lot in the series, and often by kids which were pushed to jump off roofs. Johan in the whole series is sincere to kids and tells them his own nihilistic vision of the world. he plays the rooftop game on a much larger scale.
His goal is to put himself in dangerous situations asking to get killed and see if fate will allow him to survive, and if it does, he'll try again.
That's why he asked his sister to shoot him in the head as a kid and cried when he woke up. He was a chosen one. So he tried it again, the same way that kid did with Dieter.
Johan got fucked in the head when he saw his mother choose between her children and when Anna told him the story. The reason why Anna didn't become a monster is because Bonaparta told her not to. When Gillen hypnotized her she was about to strangle him, so she still has a monster repressed inside of her. But the only thing Johan saw as a kid before becoming a monster is evil from adults, so I'm pretty sure Anna would've become like Johan had Bonaparta not told her not to become a monster.

Lack of real identity also made Johan think of himself as a nonexistent person which pmakes him justify even more his nihilistic rampages.
At the end He wanted a perfect suicide.
If everyone that ever knew him or events related to him are dead, then it's the same as if he never existed and the events that happened to him might as well not have existed, because there would exist not a single recollection of it.

Johan being a mastermind sociopath is completely related to the very core of Monster's message and thematics unlike Chrollo's edgelord antics. And keep in mind he never said cringy edgy shit like "Humans are so very fascinating"

>Johan in the whole series is sincere to kids and tells them his own nihilistic vision of the world.

So Johan is cliche nihilistic edgelord then? Got it.

You're replying to a huntard. Faggot's probably never read anything beyond shonen battle manga so he literally can't grasp subtle concepts. He needs an entire page of a characters inner thoughts to know what's happening.

Johan was the worst part of Monster. He was a kid who was somehow in 3 different Nazi Superman experiments, by accident. Then with this untold power they fail to ever explain how he gets people to do the shit he gets them to do. They just follow him, because he's so magical or whatever. And then what does he do? Kill some random people for no reason pretty much just because he can, although he lets some old fuck live for just as random reasons.

>huntard nitpicks one sentence and voluntarily ignores the rest to not admit his stupidity
hurr durr why are we mocked by everyone on Yea Forums

>random people random reasons
He killed his foster family, was about to kill Schuwald but regained his memories on the library so instead decided to ruin his books, then killed the Secret Police, killed people trying to get too close to him, and wanted a perfect suicide

>Then with this untold power they fail to ever explain how he gets people to do the shit he gets them to do.
They literally say it though speedwatcher

The excuse they give for Johan being able to manipulate people is basically he hits your nostalgia. How? How does he know exactly what makes someone nostalgic? Because he's able to make people nostalgic for specific things. What, does he do research? Where? He just seems to know. Even if he can do this, how does he know people will react by suddenly having undying loyalty and blindly doing whatever the fuck he says ignoring all logic and experience?
Johan is as poorly written as Friend because Urasawa, though he is talented at many things, sucks ass at writing smart characters. His "smart characters" are basically wizards who are able to enact 10 year plans accounting for the actions of individual people, all off-camera.

that's called planning.

Perfect Suicide? How about taking your whole race with you

Attached: 1554485835276.jpg (1069x2458, 1.09M)

>How? How does he know exactly what makes someone nostalgic?
Because he's the Devil
We already know he studies people before fucking with them. He said he interviewed people who witnessed Braun drinking only after he killed the young dude. He's also well versed in laws economics languages and other shit so he definitely studies his shit before doing it.
Most of the people that follow him are psychopaths themselves, so he just has to push their buttons and with a little dosis of charisma it's done. What he does is not more impressive than the followings people such as Jim Jones or Charles Manson had

>"If children were brought into the world by an act of pure reason alone, would the human race continue to exist? Would not a man rather have so much sympathy with the coming generation as to spare it the burden of existence, or at any rate not take it upon himself to impose that burden upon it in cold blood?"
>canonically has 11/10 intelligence
No wonder his philosophy flies over the head of 95% of the audience

Attached: Philosopher Zeke Jaeger.png (808x455, 323K)

Would be interesting what the outcome would be if he was paired against L. Or Hannibal Lecter for that matter.

>nihlism
>fate
Nice all the "philosophy" buzzwords smashed together. That isn't enough to make it deep.
>Nihlism : the philosophical viewpoint that suggests the denial of, or lack of belief in, the reputedly meaningful aspects of life
>fate : is a predetermined course of events.[1][2] It may be conceived as a predetermined future, whether in general or of an individual.
Pick one

Ben Beckman

>Pick one
I never merged them together user what stupid shit are you on ?
Cross fate if that's what you want since I don't use it literally. Just imagine someone poiting a gun to your head wanting to kill you. Well "fate" would be the act of you getting that bullet inside your skull.

stop pretending to be retarded
You said that he is nihlistic and that he want to challenge fate which make absolute no sense
whats is even the meaning of "see if fate will allow him to survive"? test if he is still lucky? in that case it is even more dumb

*i meant test his fate instead of "challenge"

You're the one either pretending to be retarded and not understanding what I'm saying with your bullshit or you haven't watched Monster

What I said could also be described as playing against the odds. Johan made Tenma hunt him so that he'd see if he could survive being driven into a corner. That's also why he puts his finger on his forehead when he has a gun pointed at him.
You have an episode of a kid describing what Johan does by playing rooftop games. Close your eyes on top of a rooftop, fight with another dude and if you fall and still manage to survive then you "beat fate"

It's not fate used as the philosophical sense, but fate as in the moment.

in that sense fate is similar to luck
And there isn't much intelligence involved in playing flip the coin.

toppest of keks dude!

Attached: rat laughing.gif (500x281, 2.76M)

There is no correlation between intelligence and what we're talking about

Pretty much only once we saw how Johan was suppose to be smart in action (instead of just being told he is), and that was the arc of the son of the billionaire guy. And he wasn't very smart there.

what you described in your first post was supposed to show how the guy was intelligent and how monster treated deep themes

light is smarter than l retard

I hope so. He wasn't particularly smart.

The long post is about Johan's characterization nothing to do with his intelligence

nice goalpost moving buddy

The point of Johan is not his smarts, its his presence and symbolism. The cast reacts to him and Tenma, who is the antithesis. Narratively we didn't need to to see how his keikaku worked because it's pointless, and it would humanize Johan, and you're supposed to see him as the 'monster'.

Attached: yang.png (560x365, 123K)

I don't even recall at any point in the series them talking about how smart he is, he did trigger events which would require genius level intelligence like what happened at Kinderheim 511 and the Library burning at Schuwald's ceremony, but they were more representative again, of him as the 'monster', not as a genius because that is the over all point, take Akagi Shigeru, he is kind of the reverse of this, they could both be called evil and geniuses at the same time, but the aspect that we're supposed to see more about Akagi is the genius, while with Johan it is the evil
