I think everything we see in the flashback is reliable since we get shown things shiggy couldn't possible know had happened like the discussion between his parents after he gets smacked. I just think that the narration over it has to be taken with a grain of salt because it's shiggy looking back and commenting on his memories through the cracked lens of his own psyche. Like I don't think it's fair to say shiggy really hated his family considering how realizing he was the one who killed his family obviously destroyed him. He didn't really hate until his father hit him with the stick when he was asking for help and forgiveness. I think that's where he snapped and took everything out on his father.

I think it is fair to say Shiggy hated his family because; he says this is all bottled up (won't show on the surface). He had the itching whenever he was in his house, which was unconsciously the source of all his pain. Deep down, he hated everyone.
