Digibro's rule is predicated on the fact that plenty of shows had iffy first episodes. Some shows do stupid thing the first episode to try and hook viewers.
Generally the second episode is a better indicator of things to come, and the third episode is there for the shows that are just plain slow starters.

I'm loving Dr Stone, started reading the manga actually because I couldn't wait for more anime episodes.

Fire Force I dropped like a hot potato halfway through the second episode. Not even worth watching the third. I hope it gets shitcanned completely because of the fire just because it's that worthless.

The three episode rule is the single most idiotic thing ever. You get a good idea beforehand whether or not you're likely to enjoy an anime from the synopsis. Then you can easily tell if it isn't what you thought it was or what you wanted from the first episode.
