Nah, William is 100% a traitor. I dunno if he was losing largely, but I appreciated how Tabata made it so instead of him winning or losing, he forces the Captain to exert so much power than he accidentally broke his own crystal. Thought it was a really clever way to both display Yuno's growth as well as the extreme power that the Captains have.

I don't think the elves will join the knights. A lot of humans would feel uneasy about that considering how much damage the elves did. I think the trio will try to re-establish the elf tribe, but they'll probably interact with the Bulls some more before that.

William was always said to be the captain closest to the title of the WK, so it's not like this came out of nowhere. With Langris disgraced this opens up the captain's position for Yuno, who clearly deserves it based on his feats in this arc.

Why did William link up his magic with Yuno? Yuno's elf was completely harmless. Would the baby's spirit have matured eventually and taken over Yuno's body? The narrative seemed to put a lot of importance in the "child between a human and an elf" so I'm a bit surprised nothing more came out of it.

The outfit was demonstrably different. Shading doesn't explain a belt or shoes appearing out of nowhere. I'd argue it doesn't even explain the hair color considering all of the elves with the exception of Rhya's new body had light hair. That's the only time that I'm aware of where Tabata managed to shade an elf's hair black. Not that any of that is particularly relevant since my point is regarding Ronne's role in the story rather than his design. At the very least he deserved to possess someone important or to get more than 1 chapter of screentime.

I didn't pay attention to it before but there might be some significance to Ronne and Gordon having similar speech quirks. It seems like a somewhat specific quirk to simply re-use especially since Gordon is part of the main gang so there might be some sort of a connection there. Even if they're not related I could see Ronne's host waking up soon and interacting with Gordon just for the gag.

It's unclear why Licht died. He had a new body just like Vetto and Fana so he should not have been affected at all just like they weren't. No idea why Tabata didn't say anything about it. He could have easily just handwaved it away by saying "Licht used too much power during the fight" or something.

Rhya survived either because of your explanation or because Patri killed his host before Rhya possessed the body, although that would raise questions about why he didn't do the same for Fana so it's a less likely explanation. I don't remember Asta cancelling Fana's reincarnation. In the Witches Forest arc human-Fana managed to regain control on her own since because back then the reincarnation was still incomplete.

Why are people salty? William becoming the next WK was already foreshadowed in his introduction all the way back in chapter 2. He is by far the most interesting candidate for the position from a narrative point of view since his character is so complex. He's Julius' protege and an accessory to his murder and he both initiated and ultimately solved the elf incident at least in the eyes of the people. Will the people in the know keep everything a secret for the sake of peace or will the people force William into the role to atone for his crimes? I'm thinking he might drop the mask as well to signify the change in his character, although personally I'd prefer if he kept it because it looks cool.

Hey guys, I just read the full manga this week. Is the anime worth watching at all? And where is the manga going to go from here? I somehow timed my reading really well as this arc finishes but aside from deciding who the next emperor will be there doesn't really seem to be many places the manga can go from here considering how much of a final boss the last fight felt like

William isn't strong enough to be WK. Magic wise or mentally. Also there is no benefit to keeping his involvement with the elves secret and even if there was Nozel and Yami wouldn't be ok with it.

Because it likely is? The only thing we know about the position is that Julius claims it's about merit. There is no objective way to measure merit unless they determine it through stars earned by the squads, which don't necessarily reflect the respective captain's abilities. If they don't care about the stars then either the king simply appoints the next WK or some people have to vote on whose merits are the most impressive.

Isn't it a good thing that he can become the WK? For multiple reasons.
As he said thia chapter, he was also discriminated by humans, the only one who ever understood him was Patri, at least until Julius showed up. He had no attachment to anyone except these two, since 95% of Golden Dawns squad was Patri's pick.
This is also a good moment for it, since it is a position he can actively do some good to pay for his life-bound crimes that only a select few know about. It is not like Wiliam is or was evil or anything.
This is also good because it keeps characters like Yami, Fuego, Anego, or Nozel as captains, which means they won't be bound by nobles to protect the capital (read:them) like King Clover did with Julius (that had to disguise himself to go out), so they can still be used in other arcs, like some outside of Clover Kingdom.

It wasn't William that caused the elf incident, it was Patri. Other people were also influenced by the elves and they're not going to be blamed for that either. Remember how Yuno was very concerned about protecting Patri because he didn't want any harm to come to William? That's how most people see it. Logically people would put blame on William but this is a shounen so all will be forgiven. Asta will eventually become the WK so whoever gets the position will have to be removed or killed at some point to make room for Asta. With that in mind William makes for an excellent candidate since he would be very willing to step down in the future.
