Not really? The music is the manga is more symbolic/metaphorical of the communication issues they have and a way for them to express themselves in different ways for different people in the band. The anime focusing more on the music is improving the source material for sure, but the source material works great as a romance drama anyway. The anime is just slowing it down and adding depth.

I started reading manga after watchin first episode last week and damn, this author is so skilled with words. I mean, the narration is pretty nice. So is art. And her other works and djs are good too.
