Voices of a distant Star was my first Shinkai film, left a great impression and is my favorite Shinkai film with 5cm/s a close second.

Hello from Russia. Seen most of Shinkai's movies (even got to watch Kimi no na Wa in cinema), but my favorite ones are his earlier works, 5cm and She and Her Cat. Kimi no Na Wa was fun though, enjoyed it quite a bit.

Characters in the new movie look younger than usual, I prefer more mature protagonists, but it's okay since animation and backgrounds look spectacular and the music is great. Hoping to see it in Russian cinemas too!

I remember you made a thread about Saint Oniisan a while ago, how did that go?
Anyways: Shinkai to me means scenery porn, broken hearts, melancholy and bad ends, his works seem to be 4-5 years ahead of what the industry does normally and I really like him because of that.

I really like early Shinkai but i do think that he became quite repetitive as far as his stories go in his later works. It's always about chasing something fleeting and unreachable and 5 cm/s is easily his best work in that category.

I absolutely love Shinkai Makoto. His unique style might not reach a lot of people but it resonates with me perfectly. After Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo I was crying so much. And all his other works moved me greatly as well.
The new one is looking amazing and I will await BDs with anticipation.
By the way I think this is by far his most attractive heroine.

Watched Children who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, The Garden of Words and Your name. Really loved all 3 and im excited for the new one and will plan to watch it when it gets shown here in the philippines

In case this isn't a bait. I'm dirty European. I have seen before "The voices of a distant star" (which I liked a lot).

In case of the trailer you posted I really like the backgrounds and animation quality. The colour palette used is remarkable. Also impressionist-like drawn sky and clouds are giving the scenes a lot of impact.

I've never seen anything from him and don't think I'm going to bother, given that all of his works are melodramatic trash.

Hello from Spain. Everything is very pretty but I find the stories disappointing, bland or boring. I understand the slow pace in his movies which is nice but it's not something I would watch very often. 君の名は was predictable and the end extended too much. My favorite character was the Shiba Inu and my favorite scene was the 私>僕>俺 moment but it was lost in translation in my country.
I really liked 彼女と彼女の猫 .but the one I hated was 星を追う子ども because I think the main character didn't do anything, was very gullible/silly and was suffering all the time only to go back to how everything was in the beginning and the only interesting guy was the evil teacher.

Forgot to metion I felt the romance in 君の名は was a bit forced or sudden, I understand they switched bodies and learnt about each other but I was already shipping Tachibana with Okudera. As someone who has studied and worked in animation I want to congratulate you and thank you for all your effort and hope everything goes well for your studio. I also wish the animation industry in Japan gets better work conditions but it's a very difficult and slow process to make come true.

I wish he'd put the couples together more. My only gripe about his movies is that his couples rarely end up together and this one is looking to be the same. But that's just me. I assume most people prefer they dont.

I like Shinkai's work, but I think he's too repetitive. All his films are similiar. Very pretty but kind of boring. I think his better works are his short films, she and her cat 彼女と彼女の猫, garden of words.

I saw “Kimi no na ha” on an All Nippon Airways flight, I didn’t actually watch it myself but I watched most of it over the shoulder of the lady sitting diagonally in front of me across the aisle.
I don’t want people to see me watching anime so I had that dumbass Great Wall of China movie or something on my screen, but I was watching the other lady’s screen. It looked like a pretty good story and I enjoyed how the characters would wake up and be confused about which body they were in so the first thing they would do is check for tits and the guy would kind of grope the tits if they were there and the girl got really mad when she found out but the guy was like “wait a minute you were touching my dick weren’t you” and she like turned bright red because she was.
yeah it was a lot of fun, I think it had subtitles on the airplane version which is why I could see the plot.
Please tell the Shinkai director guy to include more funny scenes with tits and penis jokes in his movies because that was the funnest part.
