I simply do not enjoy it as much. Additionally to circle back around to an earlier point I made, the setting is in a european style continent. If I could get a german dud with an english sub I would likely watch that instead for the show, but Japanese simply is not fitting.

Ok, I reread the comments and it seem when you are reading subs, you are focused on them, and then look up the screen.
After a while i started to read subs with a quick glimpse and repeated the words in my head while looking at the main action basically all the time. It became 100% accurate very quickly.

Alright I'll be real here since I never see anyone actually discuss the show. I thought it was alright. Certainly not worth the praise it got. The character designs are masochistic and seem pointless. They did lighting well but Kyoani always excels at that, and the color palette being so washed out wasn't a great move, especially with all the filters. The animation itself is okay, the quality of the drawings is impressive, but they've done much better work on other SOL stuff- it's not like good animation has to be action but that tends to be where the coolest looking stuff happens. The drama felt forced usually. Wanting cryporn is fine, but having something natural to cry at, like the end of k-on, is much better than a show literally being episodic sad stories. I often get the feeling the people who are like 'omg the feels' are the type who try to appear adult in their tastes, mostly sticking to gritty stuff and whatever will get them clout among others for liking it, rather than something that might be done better emotionally but won't give you the same street cred. And wanting 'realistic' looking animation is stupid. The biggest advantages in animation are that you can do things that can't be done in real life. I don't give a shit about realistic character designs moving in boring ways. If I wanted something like that I'd just watch live action. It's justifiable in say a satoshi kon movie, because he directs/edits in ways that aren't replicable in live action, but the direction Kyoani's going in with Silent Voice and this is just painstakingly boring. The K-on style shows might be heavily focused on SOL, but they have cartoony gags when it's appropriate and that adds to the show's charm and viewer engagement. VEG is as boring as animation can get. Also the season's climax was super hamfisted.

I am happy that you at least brought actual criticism to the table instead of just saying it is bad. While the animation outside of the scenes of the war were often somewhat plain movement wise, I did not think it was bad. I do not generally watch shows of this vein so I do not have much experience with them, but I thought the plot was ok. You do certainly have a point with the ending of the last being somewhat poorly executed, but I still thought the scene was enjoyable ( though it seemed a bit like they were just trying to force you into watching their movie). Didn't really have any problem with filters, and the only rough thing from a color palette standpoint the only thing I had a problem with was parts of the episode about the author with the dead daughter. not sure what you mean about the character designs.

The character designs were too detailed, making it hard to animate them more than in slow movements like they did, because they'll go off model if they do. Personally I prefer designs on the simpler side because they allow more exaggerated expressions and movement, and in general spending less time drawing the character allows for more focus on the actual (movement) animation. That all comes down to preference obviously, but I strongly feel that if you're animating you might as well use the medium to it's full advantage. Clearly I prefer that kind of thing, and Kyoani focuses on more mundane moments, but they found a great middleground in some of their other shows whereas this one just feels lifeless (for lack of a better word) and lacking in self awareness.

Not even the best of that season. SoraYori was far superior.

Ah, I see your point a bit now. In some scenes the character designs may have been a bit of a drag animation wise, as it would be hard to animate them with more motion. Ultimately I think this comes down more to a difference of taste, as you prefer simpler design with more lively animation. Often I would agree with you on this, but for this show I think the style they chose works well

There's no way this is true. Anyone with half a brain runs regular backups of all important files and stores them on off-site servers. This type of thing should never cost a company more than a day's work. This isn't the fucking 90s. Resilience is a huge functional benefit of going digital and, frankly, they deserve to lose everything if they never established a standard business continuity plan.

Yeah ultimately it's just not my kind of story, I'm not that into 'cryporn' anymore, and I don't think they made horrible choices with it but I'd like it better if things were a bit different.
