if you have trouble with screentones it's more likely that your scans are shit.

Good enough that it's not blatantly obvious the raw has 4pt stroke and you're using 8-10 to cover everything up. Even a master bullshitter (aka faithfully redraw the visible parts only) is good enough.
Of course, the main difference if whether you do this for free or not.

Post an example of the hardest thing that a redrawer must redraw well in order to be considered decent enough to join the group.

I've been a cleaner/redrawer for 12 years. My honest opinion is that the number of readers that care or even notice is extremely low. It's more about the ego of the scanlation group.

What actions do you have saved in Photoshop, TSbros? I have one for outer stroke, one for duplicating layer and three more for different fonts.

If someone who hasn't seen the raws can't confidently point out what has been redrawn, it's acceptable. This isn't as hard as you might think, provided you're not a complete fucking retard.

Probably, it’s the gigaview reader which is one of the easiest to rip. Seen a js based one at least, probably just a canvas ripper but does the job.

Batch export, center, level, weird double stroke I had to do a lot in one chapter.

A few weeks ago I tried applying to a publisher as typesetter and I was met with an automatic mail that sent me a bunch of exercises. All very difficult as expected, but this page might take the cake.
You had to redraw all the SFX and you can't cheat by placing the new SFX and redraw around it. The screentone makes it impossible to use the clone tool and healing brush + dodge/burn only gets you so far.
How would you solve this?

Because the job is actually called "letterer" and they do the typesetting, redrawing and cleaning.

I'd fucking gas myself. Gave it a quick try and I'm not getting any results I'd be happy with publishing.

I'm not sure of what you mean but the problem isn't redrawing, it's erasing the SFX when it's over a screentone.

You normally would make the new SFX first, then clean any parts of the original SFX that aren't covered to save time.
