Manga Art Progression

How art can progress. From rough to the new and polished (not always), post some progress.

>inb4 soul/soulless

the after one looks worse lmao

Old Bleach was better

There's no way someone got that much worse at drawing in only 4 years

Contrarian faggot.

More details but still shit.

Early Part 6 is the worst.

new style is too messy imo, too many details that make my eyes hurt

the second one is a tiny panel as opposed to a spread

Ah that makes sense, i wanted to post how the left one took way more timer and effort.

Araki remembered how to draw noses again.
Good on him.

Late part 3 is the peak, his current art is fucking awful

you mean art regression right?

>literal pleb filter
based itagaki

>the creepy little teeth were actually an error and not a design decision
Fucking disappointing.

Zombie Powder/early Bleach era Kubo was more expressive, later it just became background-less art book fodder.

Old bleach was better.

Everyone looks bored/smug with new art. Old art was more expressive and distinctive.

Not a coincidence the series took a hard nosedive.

Akira Toriyama.

Attached: Akira Toriyama - Dragon Ball.jpg (6220x1264, 1.4M)

Toriyama might be the most static mangaka ever.

The art of kuroko no basket evolves from bad to amazing. It's amazing how the author managed to consistently improve his art up until the last chapter.

better example

This pic is outdated, but it still stands. Some small corrections though: The Dragon Ball pic here is not from the era of early Dragon Ball so it doesn't accurately represent Dragon Ball of that era, Dragon Quest 4 takes after the early stages of Toriyama's art, Transitional Period is supposed to say Dragon Quest 7 and 8.

Attached: Toriyama Art.jpg (1508x1636, 1.03M)

An example of art from Dragon Quest 4. This looks the most like mid Dragon Ball or I guess early Dragon Ball Z if you want to go by the anime. I see it as that half step in between the Early and Famous Toriyama.

Forgot the damn pic

Get your eyes checked

Norihiro Yagi

I love the fucked up retarded teeth though

>plebbit spacing
>retarded faggot opinion

wat

I did too.
What the hell was he thinking?

did this guy just won reward for biggest fag of the thread?early db was peak of composition and movement

But I haven't posted her yet

Attached: ch 3 v ch 44.png (1554x764, 807K)

Many of those images are in the wrong time period or not even drawn by Toriyama himself.
lel

The new style looks like trash.

alternatively, because the remade panel wass drawn stylistically different when the original wasn't

Attached: ch 3 v ch 44 .png (1570x714, 770K)

Dogshit taste
Original artstyle looks generic as fuck

from soulless to soulless

Progress? Both look bad.

Attached: 1560077658625.png (334x725, 178K)

both look like trash

Eren looks better on the left. CT looks weird on both, although right does resemble Bert more.

I prefer left

Made a few Baki ones with the remake that came out last week.

Attached: 1550077121309.png (1252x656, 503K)

Eren doesnt even look like Eren on the left.

Attached: 1534679039204.png (1477x873, 598K)

Dude, the new designs are devoid of personality

Not really the same expression but similar enough hopefully.

Attached: 1557602415067.png (790x600, 383K)

Maybe not, but you just won the ESL award you dumbdumb.

That Orihime one hurts my soul the most

His current artstyle is the best

Attached: baki grappler remake.png (790x652, 312K)

It's amazing how a few days can change someone.

Attached: 1518524587760.jpg (1688x1420, 960K)

Nah I prefer middle Baki proportions. I don’t like the giant hands and feet.

Sakimind

2012
>Small beady eyes unable to see the tiny Eldians attacking him
>snooty inaccurate plastic surgery nose
>Pointy elf ears
>Tiny mouth
>Weak chin

2016
>Large menacing eyes to intimidate the cowardly Eldians
>Large accurate Eldian/Jew nose
>Round blood ears to hear the approach of those sneaky Eldian filth
>Large mouth for munching on Eldians
>Chad pronounced chin

Dude Paru has the same last name as the Baki mangaka. Same kanji even.

Not him but yeah it's good. However, drawing part 1-4 characters in that style is fucking horrid.

>Not liking the thicc
What are you, straight?

Akira Hiramoto 1998

Attached: dexter.jpg (480x360, 34K)

This guy works better because he’s a sumo and a new character, but Oliva changed too much, I can’t get used to his new proportions.

Also the characters’ faces looks like they got moe-fied.

Attached: 6B6D0F9B-24BF-4601-92D0-C15198DC293D.jpg (757x1200, 544K)

Too each their own but personally I don't like how shrink-wrapped everyone's skin looked back then

I actually liked SBR visually but something about jojolion seems off. I don't know if it's actually the art style itself or something else like designs and panelling though

Attached: 1477860884270.jpg (1087x1600, 353K)

Fuck you.

CLANG

SBR had a lot of emphasis on backgrounds and places, since using 1800s America let araki show these things.
In jojolion, the focus is on characters at all times so araki doesn't draws landscapes a lot, more than anything he just draws the characters on blank backgrounds.
This was particularly apparent around mid 8, which also had a couple cases of same face, but now near late it's back to normal and started adding a sketchy kind of style

Attached: D4f7WoqUcAAmUy_.jpg (835x1200, 277K)

I never found out who the genius was that drew this

Is this image based on a specific page?

Also worth to point out that around mid 8 araki was dealing with other things, so we also had a lot of months with no chapter and araki acknowledged the same face problems.

Seems like it was a time thing more than regression.

Horrendous

It's a redraw of a page from the manga, not just some random panels.

She doesn't like it when you ask her about it, and I don't think he does either.

at very least he get more refined

>THIS LITLE MANLET TURNED INTO A TURBO CHAD IN 2 WEEKS. CLICK HERE AND LEARN HOW!

They're probably estranged, which is sad. Or maybe it's just Paru being shy like usual

right is better

Eh, I like both

bad page comparison

Too lazy to make a mock up but Nihei's change in making characters is pretty neat.

yeah, but now he has same face syndrome.

I don't know how anyone can say they prefer the catscratch on the left.

That was years ago because of low time, it stopped a long time ago

>Bobi-chan, I terr yu hwat-o

late part 3, late part 5, and early part 7 are the peaks

Man, so much potential wasted on such a mess of a manga

2/2

Disregarding the inking which could be a conscious choice to invoke the uneasiness you must feel when you described it as such, it improved all over. It's more dynamic, better proportioned, hell even the anatomy is better even if it's an manga.

You don't like the fan service?

I don't mind the fanservice but at this point it just gets repetitive. The bit of subtlety that was there in the beginning has devolved into protag straight up gets into a bath and bones all the girls physically present in the storyline at that moment at once. 30% of the manga has to be bathhouse scenes.

Plus let's face it: the current arc is a cheap exploit. It's a cheap exploit from the author to throw away the manga's own world building for an entire arc to be able to pull just whatever he wants out of a generic fantasy setting. It's like being the first to admit that your manga is weak.

There may be some better panels that are less often shown, but I'm too lazy to find any.

Attached: Negima Art Evolution.jpg (1018x1600, 512K)

Wow almost zero improvement, kind of impressive in a weird way

Old Bleach is so good.

Better example featuring the CT.

if you think the artstyle didn't peak at part 3, you're opinion will be discarded because you are objectively wrong and should probably get tested for autism.

Attached: Katte ni Kaizo.jpg (1525x2400, 704K)

Not gonna lie, there are things I prefer about how the original is detailed. The later design is obviously better anatomy wise, but the way the earlier design is detailed and shaded makes it look more like a monster titan. There's something about the earlier titan designs too. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's just something about them. The linework, shading, detailing, and overall design of the earlier titans and shifters makes them look more monstrous and frightening. The titans now just look goofy.

lighting is better but it looks more generic

Why do so many characters change designs when the artist gets better? It's because of this people think a character keeping the same design means the artist hasn't improved

Attached: luffy.png (1072x526, 614K)

Yeah the image is in desperate need of an update

That top-middle Dragon Ball art is for Path to Power, which was post-DBZ.

Attached: 1549418528564.png (712x1211, 1.46M)

Why does the post DBZ one feel like it's devoid of emotions?

Toriyama has degenerated so much, it's really sad

Attached: dragonhalf.png (1398x618, 2.07M)

Soul vs the heart.

Attached: dragonhalf2.png (1501x1100, 639K)

Everyone on the Dragon Ball staff are way past their prime, using digital art techniques they're shit at.

it was literally just nuYamamuro holding DB back, as soon as they kicked him off and isolated him on spinoff shit like super db heroes the quality spiked up like crazy

>gets older
>looks older
Well done

>Muzan’s hairline in his initial design

Same. It also reminds me of old folk tales and children's stories and the type of illustrations in such books. Stuff like Moomin or John Bauer

The early style is better because it was more clean.

I like the style, but the sameface syndrome is strong.

>those lips

What was he thinking

I like the manga but I honestly can't get into the art style, the anime made it much more tolerable for me

Remember when Kamogawa was experienced at giving blowjobs

Lmao that Himemija nose on his first version

Attached: D_k-ER_XkAAffp1.jpg (1341x668, 140K)

yeah, pillar first appearances were rough

Attached: D_lA8iMXUAAa4ZW.jpg (1554x634, 225K)

Recent AoT easily looks better, though I'm not sure I'd call it incredible outside of the big panels. There was a certain appeal to the old style though, it was very creepy in the right way

personally i like the manga more, the anime makes the noses look a little weird

Attached: D_k-_IjXoAIfqDD.jpg (1662x1099, 269K)

This user gets it

I think a lot of that is just how the story has changed. I don't think it's a coincidence that later CT looked a lot more human in his facial proportions. We actually knew the guy inside.

>that Uzui
What went so right?

Too bad the anime suffers from some awful pacing and comedic direction.

Attached: Clovers-three-art-styles.jpg (3002x1366, 3.75M)

It got even better later on Claymore

>From ONE to Murata in 8 years

it was made by the same hacks that animated GT

>to Murata

kill yourself

bit touchy aren't we

>those fucking tits
Anime was a mistake

feminism was a mistake

Overly detailed and "correct" can make you get stuck in the room with the character, rather than inside the character itself. The character just killed a man, instead of you just killed a man.

The comedy in the manga is shit too.

I mean, it's pretty distinct but whatever

I don't get it.

Anyone have a comparison for kingdom or Vinland saga?

>not posting the in betweens that really make Reborn progression look great
It's a shame Reborn never continued.

Meanwhile we have the armored titan, who had a much stronger resemblance to Reiner than the current design. It's almost laughable how no one connected the dots before the reveal.
