Because second half decided to become a shitty Saturday cartoon with the Autoscorers jobbing one by one despite having stomped the gears and feeling like actual threats. Character development consisted of daddy/mommy issues from Tsubasa, Hibiki, and Maria. Kirika and Shirabe's character development consisted of shitty forced drama where they were arguing with each for no reason and was wholly unnecessary when a few episodes ago they were fighting their absolute damn best, overdosing on Linker, to redeem themselves. Hibiki's dad was one of the worst things to come from that show and even after one full season he hasn't showed up, making Hibiki's plotline in the season of trying to reconnect her family fucking pointless. Ver's return was hilarious but ultimately was stupid, badly written, and clearly just a throwaway fanservice for Sugita fans. The final fight against Carol looked fucking stupid.

The problem is that GX tries to paint this as a positive thing that should be strived for and something that is apparently successful (?) when everyone with the remotest amount of life experience knows that it's a tragic situation and that the kid is just waiting to have its idealism crushed.
That is after all what the "how come he dont want me man" episode was about. If her dad had actually turned over a new leaf this would have been a different story, but he hasn't. Or at least, no one would (or should) buy a "topdad is a good guy now because he like briefly risked his life or something" plot line.

The point was that he was unwilling to do anything to try to become a better person again, and he was a good person before the shit with the victim blaming wrecked the family. The fact that risked his life was less about him redeeming himself and more about him showing that he was willing to try, which is all Hibiki had been asking of him all along. Given how Hibiki had known the better side of him for most of their lives, it's understandable how she would be willing to believe in him and give him a chance, specially because she personally wanted to have her good dad back too.

Again, most of what's wrong with GX is the presentation, not the content.
