Not him but Giant Robo is a pretty old (60s) mecha manga and I think I saw someone say that the OVA (early 90s) has crossovers with some other stuff from that era. I wasn't really a fan of it desu. It was good but people talk really highly of it and I didn't get it I guess. It has good production values/animation though. But that's not rare with 80s and 90s OVAs. It's got some commentary on things like nuclear power and stuff too.

Nishida recently mentioned that half the script is done for the new season already and there was recently a new interview mentioning that they are looking for staff now and don't have a director picked yet.
